Software for Railway Design

Railway Maintenance and

Railway Reconstruction

Version 2016

BIM ready, 3D rail design solutionFerrovia is a professional software for railway design, railway maintenance and railway reconstruction design. It is a compre-hensive, full featured yet easy to use railway design solution.

With its original design workflow, Ferrovia provides the user with the commands and tools to support the entire design process, from pre-liminary to detailed design, from the initial input of survey data to com-plex 3D rail models and documentation. Using its flexible, dynamic data model, Ferrovia supports BIM (Building Information Model) workflows and processes. It can be used for the design of conventional, high speed, light rail, industrial, underground or metro rail tracks. Ferrovia can easily exchange data with Plateia, Aquaterra and Electra.

Used for Railway design, railway maintenance and railway reconstruction design of conventional and high speed rail tracks, light rail, industrial, under-ground or metro rail tracks.

gauges, railway cant calculation and editing methods, custom turnout geometry, rail connec-tions and editable cross section geometry. Ferrovia also provides advanced tools for existing rail track regression analysis support-ed with rail maintenance tools to help engineers perform analysis of existing rail tracks and prepare data for rail track maintenance machinery e.g. Plasser & Theurer tamping machines.

Ferrovia packagesFerrovia is available in three dif-ferent content packages, each of which accommodates specific design requirements and needs. These package options include: basic, 2D railway design (like high-speed tracks, light rail pro-jects, or rail track reconstruction); complex, 3D railway modeling design (like multiple rail tracks, turnouts, and rail connections); and the ultimate, 4D solution, which provides support for BIM workflows and offers a selection of design data export options and rail track clearance analysis tools

Ferrovia features

Ferrovia includes functionality for DTM, grading, alignments, pro-files, cross-sections, cant design, switches, connections and rail realignments. Ferrovia assists the user in the preparation of pro-fessional drawings including the technical documentation accord-ing to several country-specific rail design standards. The 3D model

environment enables the user to apply rail track clearance analysis and mass haul calculations. It can easily handle large projects with alignment lengths of several hun-dred kilometers.

Ferrovia manages complex rail geometry designs with multiple alignments, supporting linear and nonlinear parabolas for conven-tional and high speed rail tracks design. It supports various rail

Ferrovia Advantagesediting-related work. These tools al-low you to design any combination of tangent/spiral, or compound spi-ral/arc elements; and, with intelli-gent best-fit algorithms, you can ef-fectively work on rail realignments and/or design alignments automat-ically based on surveyed points.

Unique cross-section design concept

The “design in one, draw in sever-al cross-sections” concept allows for the efficient processing and editing of cross-sections. Different levels of automation allow for fast design of segments with similar cross-sections, as well as handling the cross-sections where the condi-tions change frequently. Given this, each cross-section can be treated individually with interactive drafting and editing commands.

Native CAD application

Ferrovia is fully integrated into a CAD environment, so all the data is stored in one, or more DWG files. Drawings can also be modified with CAD commands at any design stage, thus giving you complete flexibility in the design process.

Modular structure

Ferrovia has a modular structure, so modules can be installed separately, or in any combination. In conjunc-tion with our network licensing option, a corporate installation of Ferrovia can also be specifically tai-lored for each customer.

CAD platform choice

Ferrovia can be installed on top of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Auto-CAD Map 3D, or BricsCAD, all while maintaining functionality. In the future, additional CAD platforms will also be supported, so this gives Ferrovia customers a possibility to optimize their return on investment without sacrificing functionality.

Intuitive workflow

Ferrovia’s workflow consistently follows standard civil engineering railway design processes used in Europe, which intuitively leads de-signers through projects, from start to a successful finish.

Easy to learn and use

Well-structured ribbons, menus, and simple dialogues enable fast learning for first-time users, while toolbox and command line options are provided for the convenience of experienced users.

Handling of large data sets

Ferrovia is capable of handling, within seconds, large projects with very long alignments and thou-sands of cross-sections. Given this, you can easily work on alignment changes without the need to cut them into smaller pieces.

Support for local design standards

Ferrovia is translated into several languages and supports coun-try-specific rail design standards, turnout catalogues, and drawing layouts and symbols. Ferrovia cus-tomers are also entitled to use any country-specific version of the soft-ware if designing projects in foreign countries.

Teamwork support and col-laboration

Rail projects can be divided very efficiently amongst multiple team members. This simultaneous work is possible thanks to the ability to split a project’s layout and hori-zontal alignment drawings, lon-gitudinal sections drawings, and cross-sections drawings between team members.

Alignment design tools

Ferrovia contains powerful align-ment tools for both design, and
