Your mobile device is a radio transmitter and receiver. It isdesigned not to exceed the limits for exposure to radio wavesrecommended by international guidelines. These guidelineswere developed by the independent scientific organizationICNIRP and include safety margins designed to assure theprotection of all persons, regardless of age and health. The guidelines use a unit of measurement known as theSpecific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit for mobiledevices is 2 W/kg and the highest SAR value for this devicewhen tested at the ear was 0.424 W/kg*. As mobile devicesoffer a range of functions, they can be used in otherpositions, such as on the body as described in this userguide**. In this case, the highest tested SAR value is 0.285W/kg. As SAR is measured utilizing the device's highesttransmitting power the actual SAR of this device whileoperating is typically below that indicated above. This is dueto automatic changes to the power level of the device toensure it only uses the minimum level required to reach theNetwork. The World Health Organization has stated that presentscientific information does not indicate the need for anyspecial precautions for the use of mobile devices. They notethat if you want to reduce your exposure then you can do soby limiting the length of calls or using a handsfree device tokeep the mobile phone away from the head and body.*The tests are carried out in accordance with internationalguidelines for testing.**Please see "Electromagnetic Safety" for important notesregarding body-worn operation.

FCC RF Exposure Information

Your handset is a radio transmitter and receiver. It isdesigned and manufactured not to exceed the emission limitsfor exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy set by the FederalCommunications Commission of the U.S. Government. The guidelines are based on standards that were developedby independent scientific organizations through periodicand thorough evaluation of scientific studies. The standardsinclude a substantial safety margin designed to assure thesafety of all persons, regardless of age and health. The exposure standard for wireless handsets employs a unitof measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, orSAR. The SAR limit set by the FCC is 1.6 W/kg. The tests areperformed in positions and locations (e.g. at the ear and wornon the body) as required by the FCC for each model. The highest SAR value for this model handset as reported tothe FCC when tested for use at the ear is 0.395 W/kg, andwhen worn on the body in a holder or carry case, is 0.352 W/kg.This device was tested for typical body-worn operationswith the back of the handset kept 1.0 cm from the body.To maintain compliance with FCC RF exposure requirements, use accessories that maintain a 1.0 cm separation distancebetween the user's body and the back of the handset. Theuse of beltclips, holsters and similar accessories should notcontain metallic components in its assembly. The use of accessories that do not satisfy these requirementsmay not comply with FCC RF exposure requirements, andshould be avoided. The FCC has granted an EquipmentAuthorization for this model handset with all reported SARlevels evaluated as in compliance with the FCC RF emissionguidelines. SAR information on this model handset is onfile with the FCC and can be found at http://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea under the Display Grant section after searching thecorresponding FCC ID (APYHRO00174).Additional information on Specific Absorption Rates (SAR)can be found on the Cellular Telecommunications & InternetAssociation (CTIA) Website at http://www.phonefacts.net.

Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)

Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)

SoftBank 106SH meets the government's requirements forexposure to radio waves. These requirements are based on scientific basis to assurethat radio waves emitted from mobile phones and otherhandheld wireless devices do not affect human health. Theyrequire that the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), which isthe unit of measurement for the amount of radiofrequencyabsorbed by the body, shall not exceed 2 W/kg*. This limitincludes a substantial safety margin designed to assure thesafety of all persons, regardless of age or health, and meetsthe international standard set by International Commission onNon-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) in cooperation withWorld Health Organization (WHO).The highest SAR value of SoftBank 106SH is 0.492 W/kg.SAR tests were conducted with this handset transmittingat its highest certified power level in accordance withtesting methods set by the government. While there may bedifferences between the SAR levels for various handsets, theyall meet the governmental requirements for safe exposure. The actual SAR level of handsets while operating can be wellbelow the highest value. This is because handsets are designed to operate at multiplepower levels so as to use only the power required to reach theNetwork.Additional information on SAR can be obtained on thefollowing Websites.Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC)http://www.tele.soumu.go.jp/e/sys/ele/body/index.htmAssociation of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB)http://www.arib-emf.org/ (Japanese)*Requirements are stipulated in Radio Law (OrdinanceRegulating Radio Equipment, Article 14-2).
