COURSE CONTENT
DUTIES OF A SCORER
BEFORE THE GAME1.Make sure you have the complete tournament schedule as a reference throughout the competition.2.Familiarize yourself with the venue (Diamond A, B, etc.)3.Remember to bring a stopwatch to record start and stop times – the scorer is the ‘official timekeeper’.4.Make sure you have essential equipment;
• Score Sheet (provided by the Organizer)• Stationery (pens, pencils, liquid paper, eraser, stapler)• Stopwatch (if provided by the Organizer)• Official balls for the Game (if any)• Clipboard (optional)
DUTIES OF A SCORER
BEFORE THE GAME (cont.)5.30 minutes before the game, collect Batting Line-ups from both competing teams.6.Ensure that Batting Line-ups must have;
• Team Name• All Players’ Name• Jersey Numbers• Defensive Field Positions• Team Manager’s Signature
7.Transfer Batting Line-ups to the Score Sheet.8.TOP? BOTTOM? Which base bench?9.Exchange the Batting Line-Ups with both competing team’s scorer and with a copy to the Plate Umpire.

SCORING THE GAME
1.Record start time. When to record?
2.Be familiar with umpiring signals e.g. What are the signals?
3.When requested during the game, provide information to the UMPIRE(S); e.g. count, outs etc.
4.Confirm each batter. Ensure that it is the correct player by checking their jersey numbers against the line-ups.
5.DO NOT notify Umpire (in whatever gestures) if the offensive team is batting out of order or if either team has an unreported substitution or an illegal player.

AFTER THE GAME
1.Ensure you have the correct results.
2.Write the results on the Score Sheet.
3.Score Sheet must be SIGNED by Umpires and sometimes, Managers from both competing teams.
4.The Score Sheet is NOT AVAILABLE to any person but the Umpires and Organiser.
5.If a game is protested or suspended; record TIME, SITUATION (count on the batter, who is on bases, number of outs, etc.)
6.TIME means the amount of time has been played; not the actual time on your watch.

1.Batting positions are numbered 1-9 downwards in the players’ column.
2.Write neatly at the top of the box. Substitute?

4.Fill out the Score Sheet before the game starts.• Name of HOME/VISITOR or TOP/BOTTOM team.• Completed Batting Line Up with name, jersey no. and
position• List Substitute Players with name and jersey no.• Write date, game no., diamond no., start time, umpires

1.Every pitch by the pitcher (including all foul balls) must be recorded. Write small but legible.
2.Balls are recorded by [O].
3.Swinging Strike are recorded with an [X].
4.Called Strike are recorded with a [C].
5.Any strikes which are called Foul Balls are shown by the number of the fielder who was closest to the ball e.g. [2, 3, 5, 7, 9]

MOVING RUNNER AROUND THE DIAMOND
1.For 2 base hit, 3 base hit and Home Run, draw a diagonal line through the second, third or all the way to home box. E.g.

COMPLETING AN INNING
STANDARD INNING
1.After 3rd batter is out, a diagonal line is ruled from bottom left to top right and an [X] is draw in the middle of box score.
2.Continue next inning in the square alongside the previously marked [X] box score.
3.When an inning proceeds through batter #9 to batter #1, continue scoring that inning at the top of the column. DO NOT move across to the next column.
4.If the 3rd out is made on the base runner attempting to steal, the batter (at bat) will become the first batter in the next inning.
COMPLETING AN INNING
NINE OR MORE BATTERS IN AN INNING
1.If all 9 batters bat in an inning, the completion of the inning is noted by a diagonal line through the completed turn at bat of the first batter’s inning box.
2.If all 9 batters have batted before 3 outs are made, move to the column for next inning and insert the number for the continued inning.
3.Use arrow to indicate the continued inning.
4.A player can bat or put out more than once in a long inning.
CHANGES
BATTING1.Write the name of substitute player in the same batting section as the original player.2.DO NOT cross out the name of the original player. Why?3.CROSS the substitute name off the substitute list.
RE-ENTRY1.The original player may re-enter the game once and MUST go into their original batting position.2.Put a line through the substitute name, who can no longer take part in the game.
