The goal at the University of the Incarnate Word is to provide fair and accurate services to members of the media. As a result, UIW staff will strive to meet any and all reasonable requests. Location: H-E-B Field is located on the main UIW campus, situated between Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium and the Daniel Sullivan Baseball Field. It opened in 1989 and seats 250 spectators. The playing surface received major upgrades in the fall of 2018 thanks to a new sponsorship from H-E-B, switching from natural grass to AstroTurf RootZone Diamond OPS Series field turf while adding new backstops and netting to the facility.
Credentials: Representatives of media outlets, radio broadcast crews, and photographers are welcome at UIW softball games. Please contact Zach Mason to request a credential at least 48 hours in advance for broadcast crews requiring technical set-up, and 24 hours in advance for reporters and photographers.
Parking: Game day parking will be provided in the lots adjacent to the McDermott Center. Contact Zach Mason for a parking pass. Media arriving for non-game-day interviews are requested to stop at Visitor Information & Parking Office located at Mission Plaza (the Burr Rd. Entrance).
Coach and Student-Athlete Interviews: Coach DiPietro is available for media after games and by appointment on non-game-days. Student-athlete interviews may be arranged after the 3rd quarter of games or by appointment. Contact Zach Mason at least 24 hours in advance to arrange an in-person or telephone interview. Post-game interviews will be conducted after an appropriate cooling-off period. There will be no game-day access to players or coaches prior to the game.
Press Row Services: Home and visiting broadcast crews are usually accommodated in the elevated press booths located above the grandstands on each sideline. Phone lines are available. Print media are usually seated at the press table at floor level. Internet services are provided. See Anthony Brandt for assistance.

DUAL THREAT: HOFFMAN STRONG IN CIRCLE, AT PLATE• Freshman pitcher Renee Hoffman has been hitting well, particularly in
games when she starts in the circle.• The Michigan product is batting .293 with a double, home run, three RBIs
and three runs scored when she starts the game at pitcher this season.• In her most recent outing against UTSA, Hoffman went five innings
before surrendering her first run of the game. She finished the contest with 6.2 innings pitched, three earned runs on just four hits, and three strikeouts.
• She also recorded the team’s only RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly.
ANGEL’S APRIL: SHORTSTOP ON A TEAR OVER THE LAST MONTH• Senior shortstop Angel Villanueva has put together a strong month in
April, batting .236/.361/.500 with a double, three home runs, four walks, nine RBIs and five runs scored.
• Villanueva is second on the team in home runs (4) and third on the team in RBIs (11).
• The senior leads the team in stolen bases with 10.
HOPE’S HEATING UP: SENIOR SEEING THE BALL WELL• Senior first baseman Hope Sobolewski has been a regular on the base
paths of late, reaching base in five straight games and putting together a three-game hitting streak
• She leads the team with eight multiple hit games (including two 4-hit games) and three multi-RBI games
• Sobolewski is putting together a great senior campaign, leading all qualified hitters on the team in batting average (.277) slugging percentage (.495) on-base percentage (.348), doubles (five) and home runs (five).

In Saturday’s series finale, we will be honoring this year’s senior class as they play their final game at H-E-B Field.
There’s no understating the impact these seniors have made on the team, both on and off the field. Collectively, they’ve tallied 82 hits, 12 doubles, a triple, 14 home runs, 48 RBIs and 45 runs scored in 2019. Meanwhile, Monica Flores and Jessica Rodriguez served as the two team captains, providing leadership through the season’s ups and downs.

2019 UIW SOFTBALL JOE DIPIETROHead CoachSecond Season at UIW | Sixteenth Overall | Cherry Hill, NJ
Joe DiPietro was named the 12th UIW head softball coach in program history when he was hired in July, 2017.
DiPietro comes to the Alamo City from Drexel University in Philadelphia, where he spent one season as an assistant coach to Carl Taylor. Prior to his stint with the Dragons, DiPietro spent two season as head coach at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. DiPietro led the Lady Pirates to a 22-win season in his first season with the squad in 2015. DiPietro spent five seasons as the head coach of Temple University in Philly, where the Owls won 115 games in that span. The softball team was the only program at the school to increase their win total every season. The Owls made three consecutive conference tournament appearances, culminated by a school-record 32 wins in 2013. Prior to his time at Temple, DiPietro spent six seasons at another Philly school in La Salle University, where he led the Explorers to 22 wins in 2008, the most wins by the program in 11 years.

Kaylyn Zierke enters her second season as a graduate assistant coach for the UIW softball team.
Zierke is very familiar with UIW head coach, Joe DiPietro, as he coached her at Temple University until the program discontinued. After spending one year at Murray State University, Zierke played her final two years of softball at St. Joseph’s University, wher she was an All-Atlantic 10 First Team Catcher and was team captain.
Zierke is getting her MBA in finance at UIW.
Butler comes to UIW with over a decade of experience both as a collegiate student-athlete and pitching coach at the Division I level. She will lead the pitching staff and will assist in recruiting and team workouts for UIW softball. She most recently spent four years as the associate head coach at Presbyterian College (2014-2018). She was in charge of the pitching staff and designing off-season and in-season workouts,while also serving as the recruiting coordinator. She coached three All-Big South pitchers, 18 NFCA Scholar Athletes, and helped the Blue Hose earn 2015 Big South runner-up honors. As a player, Butler was a two-year pitcher (2008-09) for Eastern Kentucky. Her career was highlighted by a standout senior season in which she posted a 2.32 ERA. Prior to arriving at EKU, Butler played two seasons at Golden West Junior College. As a sophomore there, she posted a 21-13 record with a 1.35 ERA and 170 strikeouts in 231.2 innings of work. She earned first team all-conference recognition and was an all-tournament selection. Butler graduated from Concordia University-Irvine in May 2017 with a Masters of Arts in Coaching and Athletic Administration. She also earned a degree in sociology from Eastern Kentucky (2009).
