I particularly enjoyed the seminar-style teaching concept in SMU,

especially or the economics modules. It inducts students in

the necessary academic rigour, while at the same time allowing

lively debates and analysis on real-world policies and issues.

Another plus point about the economics curriculum is that it’s not

all about economics. Economic matters are too oten intertwined

with business, political and social issues. I thereore appreciate

the opportunity to read modules rom various elds, which have

broadened my thinking and equipped me with useul skill sets.

I have worked with several SMU Economics graduates and

ound them well-rounded individuals and eective in business

situations. I attribute this to the rst class teaching methods

and philosophy o SMU. I nd that the undergraduate degree

programme at the School o Economics equips its students with

the necessary analytical tools and knowledge to deal with real-

world economics issues.

Be See (Es)

Economics is about human behaviour, resources, relationships,

choices and decisions. It’s about what makes the world go

round… or come to a standstill.

SMU’s Bachelor o Science (Economics) develops a solid

oundation in economics principles, a sharp understanding o

global developments and a repertoire o analytical, problem-solving

and communication skills.

Modelled ater the best o America’s undergraduate economics

programmes and enriched with Asian applications, SMU’s

Bachelor o Science (Economics) programme provides a good

balance o broad-based undamentals and practical real-

industry knowledge.

The Bachelor o Science (Economics) is a 4-year programme.

The curriculum is designed to provide a strong understanding

o modern economic theory, inculcate independent thought

about economic policies and problems, develop the capacity

or quantitative research, and knowledge about the local and

global economy.

Opportunities abound in the programme or inter-disciplinary

versatility that broadens the students’ skills and knowledge. The student can opt or a second major in a wide array o

disciplines including Finance, Marketing, Accounting, Law,

Applied Statistics and Actuarial Science. Moreover, outstanding

students can apply or direct entry into the double degree

programme - combining Economics with a second degree in

Accountancy, Law, Business Management, Social Science or

Inormation Systems Management.
