Let’s get a quick idea of how Socrative works. We’ll start with clicking/tapping “Quick Question.”

Tap/Click it!

Quick questions work best for off-the-cuff verbal questionsyou want to ask the class. It’s great for quick informalformative assessment feedback. Let’s try a true/falsequestion. Tap/click “True/False.”

Your screen now moves to the “Live Results” tab. Students should launch Socrative on their device. Students should login simply with the room number at the top of the screen. You would then verbally ask students“Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina, true or false?” Students would enter theirresponse into their own device. You’ll see the results update live as students enter their choice.

This illustrates what the studentwould see on his/her end.

If one student enters “True,” you’llnotice the live results on the teacherscreen reflect that.

You can continue to ask more verbal questions by clicking on the buttons below the live results.

Once you’ve completedyour questions, click/tapthe yellow “Finish” button andyou’ll return to the maindashboard menu.

Now, let’s look at “Quizzes.” Socrative holds a bit more power with quizzes thanwith “Quick Question.”

You must first create a quiz before you can administer itto your students. Click/tap the “Manage Quizzes” tab.

You’ll now see yourquiz options. You cancreate a quiz fromscratch, import a quizshared with you bysomeone else (or madewith Excel), view/editquizzes you’ve previouslycreated, or access reportsfrom quizzes studentshave previously taken.

Let’s create a new quiz. Click/tap“Create Quiz.”

Enter a name for your quiz.If you’d like to share this quiz with otherteachers, turn “Share Quiz” on and give theother teachers the SOC number. Then, choose which type of question you’dlike to add. Let’s start with a multiplechoice question.

Enter your question, along with possible answers. Checkthe “Correct” box of the right answer. You can add anexplanation, which students can see after answeringthe question. You can turn that feature off later, ifyou prefer students not see immediate feedback. The X button will delete this

question. The arrows move the questionup or down, in relation toother questions.

Add an image to this question -visuals may help some learners.

Add additional questionsbelow using the buttons.

Here we’ve added a second question, a T/F type.

When you’ve created all questions for this quiz, click/tap“Save & Exit” at the TOP of the page.

Now, let’s try administering the quiz. Go back to “Dashboard” by clicking on the tab at the top.

Click “Start a Quiz.”

Click the quiz youjust created - in ourcase, it’s the NorthCarolina quiz.

Next, choose how you want to administer the quiz.Select the pace

The quiz is now live. If students enter the room number at the top of the screenon their device, they will be able to take the quiz.

You’ll see live results as students answer questions, letting you know how students are doing immediately. You likely won’t want to share this info with your class.

Click “Finish”to finish the quiz.

We have one student, John Smith, taking ourquiz. You can see he’s answered incorrectlyfor question #1.

STUDENT VIEWSince we had feedback enabled, this iswhat John Smith would see after answeringthe second question.

Now that John has finished both questions on our quiz, we can click “Finish” on the teacherscreen to end the quiz.

You’ll now be able to accessgrading reports. Email themto yourself, download them, save them to your SocrativeDashboard, or simply view achart.

The “Space Race” feature permits you to turn a quiz into a race to finish. “Exit Tickets” permitsimple feedback at the end of a lesson. Now, you’re all set to start teaching with Socrative!
