ENDOWMENT FUND ANNUAL REPORT
Investing in the Future of Toxicology
Recognition Levels
The SOT Endowment Fund has tiered recognition levels intended to encourage contributions to the Endowment Fund.
Individual
Recognition Level Contribution in a Fiscal YearBronze $40–$99
Silver $100–$249
Gold $250–$499
Paracelsus Circle $500 or more
Individual
Recognition Level Cumulative ContributionLifetime Paracelsus Circle Member $5,000 Commitment
Lifetime Paracelsus Circle Benefactor $5,000–$9,999
Lifetime Paracelsus Circle Leader $10,000–$24,999
Lifetime Paracelsus Circle Futurist $25,000–$49,999
Lifetime Paracelsus Circle Visionary $50,000 or more
Lifetime Paracelsus Circle givers will be recognized by their cumulative gifts at the point that they give an initial contribution of $500 or more and indicate their intention to make additional contributions to reach $5,000 or more within 10 years. Individuals who make cumulative gifts will be recognized as follows up to:
$5,000 Lifetime Paracelsus Circle Member
$10,000 Lifetime Paracelsus Circle Benefactor
$25,000 Lifetime Paracelsus Circle Leader
$50,000 Lifetime Paracelsus Circle Futurist
$100,000 Lifetime Paracelsus Circle Visionary
In the case of couples who are both members of the SOT, the Recognition Level is based on the contribution of each individual. Thus, a $500 joint contribution from a couple who are both members of the SOT is recognized for both individuals at the Gold Level and a $1,000 joint contribution is recognized for both individuals at the Paracelsus Circle Level.
$5,000 Lifetime Paracelsus Circle MemberReceive recognition on the SOT website and invitation to President’s Reception.
$10,000 Lifetime Paracelsus Circle BenefactorReceive all the benefits of a Lifetime Paracelsus Circle Member, plus guaranteed room in the SOT Annual Meeting headquarters hotel (at the prevailing SOT rate).
$25,000 Lifetime Paracelsus Circle LeaderReceive all the benefits of a Lifetime Paracelsus Circle Benefactor, plus participation in an Endowment Fund Board luncheon during the Annual Meeting.
$50,000 Lifetime Paracelsus Circle FuturistReceive all the benefits of a Lifetime Paracelsus Circle Leader, plus recognition in the Membership Directory.
$100,000 Lifetime Paracelsus Circle VisionaryReceive all the benefits of a Lifetime Paracelsus Circle Futurist, plus a special article in newsletter and/or a biography on the website, as well as an SOT Award named for them for one year.
Corporate/Institutional RecognitionCorporate/Institutional Recognition Levels for the SOT Endowment Fund are the same as those used by the SOT for corporate contributors to the Annual Meeting.

Dear Colleague:
On behalf of the Society of Toxicology Endowment Fund and the scientists who have and will benefit from your generosity, thank your for your support. Highlighted below are a few award recipients we have been able to help this past year because of your generous contributions to the SOT Endowment Fund.
The Endowment Board sponsored the 2013 Undergraduate Educator Award, presented to an SOT member who is distinguished by outstanding contributions to the teaching of undergraduate students in toxicology and toxicology-related areas and whose work supports SOT’s strategic efforts to “Build for the Future of Toxicology.” This educator award was presented to Sidhartha Ray, who chairs programs of education, research, and service in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Manchester University College of Pharmacy. In his 28 years of academic experience in pharmacy teaching and research, he has trained numerous undergraduate and graduate students in toxicology. A dedicated teacher and a formidable scientist, Dr. Ray passionately instructs his students to be lifelong learners.
Over the years, member contributions have made a significant difference to hundreds of young scientists. This past year, 45 Endowment Fund awards were distributed during the Society’s 52nd Annual Meeting. Amrendra Ajay won the Dharm V. Singh Association of Scientists of Indian Origin Student Award for his work on the regulator of Kidney Injury Molecule -1 (KIM-1); your contributions will help him pursue his dream of becoming an independent scientist. This year, Zhoumeng Lin, a PhD student at the University of Georgia, received the Perry J. Gehring Biological Modeling Student Award for his work on the neurotoxicity of the herbicide atrazine. He plans to use the recognition received via the award, along with the knowledge that he gained at SOT Annual Meeting, in his pursuit of earning his postdoctoral position in the field of toxicology.
These are just a few of the many success stories of the SOT Endowment Fund. You can find more stories along with the complete listing of award recipients, at www.toxicology.org/endowment.
Since the SOT Endowment Fund was established seven years ago, the Fund has grown to a value in excess of $1.9 million, with contributions from 595 individuals and 31 institutions. The Endowment Fund has under its umbrella 34 Named Funds and three Society Funds that support the Society’s long-term goals. Jacqueline H. Smith, an SOT member who contributed to the SOT Society Fund, had this to say about her contribution: “I designated my gift to the Educational Activities Fund recognizing that educational opportunities for students are central to the future of toxicology.” Dr. K.S. Rao gave his contribution to the Global Activities Fund because “SOT, as a premier scientific society, should spread its wings far and wide to assist scientist from other countries in whatever ways possible.”
Your support has and will continue to make a significant difference to the future success of our Society, both in the United States and abroad. Given the current economic climate, we need to continue our efforts in 2014 to ensure that we are Building for the Future of Toxicology. I hope that you will consider making a contribution this coming year.
Sincerely,
