“These students have found programs here at EKU that meet their needs academi-cally, therefore Eastern is doing all it can to help them achieve their dreams finan-cially through our merit-based scholarship program,” said Brett Morris, interim direc-tor of admissions at the uni-versity. “The process is much easier now because students are granted these scholarships automatically if they qualify. There’s no need for a separate application.”
Students who qualify for merit-based scholarships have until May 1 to accept them, Morris said. (Additional scholarship recipients will be announced later.)
The Excellence Award, Founders Award, Regents Scholarship, Presidential Scholarship and Mer i t Scholarship are for incom-ing high school freshmen. The Colonel, Colonel Plus, Maroon and Maroon Plus scholarships are for incoming transfer students.
For more information about all the scholarships avail-able to EKU students, visit scholarships.eku.edu or call the university’s Scholarship Office at 859-622-8032.

University of the Cumberlands Chorale goes on tourThe University of the Cumberlands (UC) Chorale toured in
Northern Kentucky during their spring break on March 9-14. The group visited five locations and performed a variety of pieces, including “The Quest Unending” by Joseph Martin, the classic “An Early American Hymn” by John O’Reilly and worship song “I Will Rise” by Chris Tomlin.
In their first tour in three years, the group performed for students, families, churches and host families. The trip also allowed UC’s music department the potential to recruit high school students when they visited Grant County High School in Dry Ridge, Campbell High School in Fort Campbell and George Rogers Clark High in Winchester.
The group also visited First Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling and Sherman Baptist in Dry Ridge, and allowed Chorale stu-dents to show the love of Christ through their talents. Etter believed the tour was an excellent way for the Chorale family to bond in their love for Christ, as well as their love of music.
The group was joined by UC band director Dr. Steven Sudduth and staff accompanist Kay Dawn McFarland, as well as other adult leaders.
Students that attended the trip included Kyla Edmonson
(Walton, Ky.), Lyndsey Green (Corbin, Ky.), Katherine Greene (London, Ky.), Michelle Pennington (Bowling Green, Ky.), Logan Reynolds (Corbin, Ky.), Emily Scott (Paris, Ky.), Bethany Sturdivant (Walton, Ky.), Whitley Bird (Williamsburg, Ky.), Jillian Carpenter (Williamsburg, Ky.), Wesley Hale (Amelia, Ohio), Marissa Hedrick (London, Ky.), Lisa Lyford (Williamsburg, Ky.), Christin Miller (Lafollette, Tenn.), Katherine Prewitt (London, Ky.), Alexis Tickle (Elizabethtown, Ky.), Dalton Hutton (Mt. Vernon, Ky.), Tyler Vaughn (Mt. Vernon, Ky.), Micah Wolf (London, Ky.), Jonathan Wyatt (Williamsburg, Ky.), Casey Barnard (London, Ky.), Matthew Black (Northwood, Ohio), Phillip Brewer (London, Ky.), Chris Brown (Corbin, Ky.), Jeff Daugherty (London, Ky.), Michael Kitts (Lafollette, Tenn.), and Zach Shannon (Somerset, Ky.).
Chorale is typically made up of 45-60 singers and auditions are open to all UC students. Chorale represents UC during tours to various state, educational and denominational meet-ings, where they perform literature from all periods of choral music. The group has made four tours to Europe, perform-ing in Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxemburg, England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
