Social Service also known as Social Welfare Prior to the 1850s
social services was seen as charity or relief projects helping disadvantaged individuals through families and churches with minimal assistance from the Government.
1865-1860’s U.S. Government took control of assisting others: Freedmen’s Bureau service
offered temporary assistance for recently freed black males (free men) and refugees

of helping people who are in need; however it is not accomplishing the goal of doing it sufficiently.

Human services are services that helps individuals accomplish there needs through interdisciplinary knowledge, preventions and assistance so they can better their lives. (National Organization for Human Services, 2012)
