The JANUS Series…Taking the Best of What We Know and Creatingthe Future We Need. “Are we Ready to Create our Next Chapter?”OPENING KEYNOTE: D R . F R A N C I S B AT T I ST I , LC S W | B AT T I ST I M A N AG E M E N T A F F I L I AT E S

For the past three months we have all been part of the Coronavirus Pandemic saga. As the weeks of the pandemic continued to unfold, each of us experienced this time in very unique ways. During these weeks we may have wondered, “Can I do this?”, “Will it ever end?”, What is real and what is not?’. Well, we may still have some of these same questions, however we have made it to this point. The awareness of this accomplishment is important to acknowledge and celebrate.

Drawing from Roman mythology, the Roman god, Janus, who represented new beginnings, transitions, doorways and passages, Dr. Battisti will kicks-off our conference looking at where we have been, where we are today and what is it that we want to create for our next chapter.

It is a time to listen, reflect and recover, so that we all may create the next chapter of our lives.

Because She Was Loved; Reconsidering the “Quality” of Our Care M S . KAT E H A N L E Y | AU T H O R

This session will be moderated and facilitated by Ms. Dana Diorio-Casey, LMSW • National Healthcare Associates

In this session Ms. Kate Hanley will tell the brief overview of her experience and journey of caring for her parents, while trying to balance the demands of her own busy work and family life. As her story progresses, along with the frustrations of her mother’s dementia, she talks of the closing of her family home in Rochester where she discovered a cache of daily love poetry her dad had penned to her mother every morning on a paper napkin. He used the power of the written word as his weaponry, against the disease of dementia that was closing in on the person he loved for over 65 years. It was the caregivers at the assisted living and skilled nursing homes that heard a cry of help from her mother’s soul and gave her a second chance to remember the memories that were stored deep within her soul. Dementia thought it had claimed its victory upon her. But as her body and mind turned leathered and beaten, a caregiver cared, and the memories in her inner soul brought her back to who she once was. Ms. Hanley will also discuss the stress placed upon families due to the NYS Pause, and the complications inherent with the emptiness.

What’s Age Got to Do With It?How to Best Manage Intimacy Issues in Your FacilityM S . LY N DA S H R AG E R | CO N S U LTA N T

This session will be moderated and facilitated by Ms. Dana Diorio-Casey, LMSW • National Healthcare Association

A recent article in the New York Times noted there are a “number of older Americans who are having intimate relationships well into their 70s and 80s, helped in some cases by Viagra and more tolerant societal attitudes toward sex outside marriage. These aging lovers have challenged traditional notions of growing old and, in some cases, raised logistical and legal issues for their families, caretakers and the institutions they call home.” This session will address these issues and foster a dialogue about what to do with our amorous elders.

As professionals, our lives are full of opportunities that allow us to forget about being good to ourselves. These opportunities while seemingly noble and needed, if not handled consciously, can start a process of destruction in our bodies and minds. All of us have just experienced perhaps one of the most unsettling times that the world has known over the past 100 years. Are we ready to move forward?

Based on an old Italian motto, “If You Are Not A Little Crazy…” is a high-energy session infused with warmth and humor. It aims to help professionals design their own blueprint for a renewed sense of purpose by tapping into their natural spontaneity, creativity and taste for the adventure of life. The result is greater personal and professional performance, increased “good” days and fewer “tough” days, and an awakened passion for the challenges ahead. Join Dr. Battisti as he will move you beyond the basics. Internal harmony not only enhances your physical and mental health, but also allows one to grow professionally. The journey for harmony and peacefulness does not end until it touches every aspect of our lives. True peace moves beyond the relief of everyday pressures and points us in the direction of positive health.
