Social Service in Islam – Address by Ms. Saima Khan and

Manaal Mulla

On Wednesday 5th of October, 2016 JSS Private School was

honoured to have 2 young inspirational teenagers to hold a

motivational and encouraging talk for grades 5, 6, 9 & 11 on

“Social Service in Islam”. The 2 members comprised of Saima

Khan and Manaal Mulla who is the CEO & President of Step Up

Dubai; a youth based organisation striving to utilize the potential

of youngsters in the GCC for the benefit of the unfortunate society.

Saima Khan is a current delegate of United Nations for Global

Poverty and is connected to over 75 charity related organisations

worldwide. Her work has been recognized through several media

channels and she’s also won awards like Splash Fashions- Heart of

Gold, International Diana Award- Champion Volunteer, etc. The

talk was embedded with various topics ranging from basic

definitions of charity, Sadaqah, Zakat and volunteerism. Questions

and situations were posted to the students and they were

engaged throughout the whole talk. Students came up with

creative ways of doing charity without the use of money. Love,

compassion and kind gestures were amongst the popular

answers. By the end of the talk students were energetic and ready

to make a difference as soon as they could.
