‘suggestion box’ project in a central area on campus with a microphone to address questions directly. V. Activist Tool Kit Event Sandra mentioned that she is in the process of inviting a representative from the Sacramento Non-Profit Center to come to speak and demonstrate to students the process of establishing a non-profit. Lali offered to invite non-profit leaders from WEAVE and other non-profits. Christina Moreno offered to suggest ideas to attract students to attend these events. Sandra didn’t want to replicate the Share Fair model but wanted to provide a venue for students to be exposed to the benefits, the models and the role of non-profits in Sacramento. VI. Oaxacan Artisan Visit Heather reported that the details of this event are in place. She reviewed the schedule of presentations. Sandra agreed to bring her class and to offer to translate if there weren’t another translator. VII. Inclusive Restrooms/Signage Anastasia mentioned the need to submit to the Faculty Senate two resolutions to address the issue of gender inclusive restrooms and a meditation space. It is currently the law, since March 2017 that a campus must comply by providing a sufficient number of ‘all gender’ restrooms. CRC campus provides an inadequate number of ‘all gender’ restrooms, and those ‘single user restrooms’ are in inconvenient locations. It was proposed that for the campus to be committed to this issue, the Faculty Senate should show support and to vote to support the following Resolution:

that the two single-user restrooms in LRC be accessible to students… that all new construction on campus include at least 1 single-use restroom

accessible to the public Sandra agreed to present this issue to the Faculty Senate to get it on the agenda for the 9-22 Senate meeting. Anastasia agreed to attend to speak on this issue. VIII. Meditation Space It was reported that most campuses provide a space for spiritual and mental health needs of students to reduce the effects of stress and increase overall well-being. Currently, on CRC campus, students can be seen praying, meditating and trying to relax in inappropriate spaces and can feel unsafe or even targeted. Many student groups have approached the administration and faculty to express this need. The committee agreed to approach the Faculty Senate to ask for support and to vote for the following resolution:

Respectfully Submitted, Sandra Carter Chair, Social Responsibility Committee

Two Resolutions to Faculty Senate: The committee heard the two resolutions for the Faculty Senate: Resolution # 1: Whereas the Social Responsibility recommends that the single-user restrooms on the first floor of the Learning Resource Center be re-designed as public, student accessible restrooms and not restricted to faculty and staff. able to secure an improvised meditation space in the Anthropology lab, and other less-than-appropriate places. They are in need of a dedicated, specific space. It was hoped that a dedicated space could be secured in the new student center building; the administration has responded that after the building is completed a space could be found. Teresa and the committee commented that in the past, faculty and students have had to find a ‘work around’ means to get things done, even to the point of breaking rules to meet student needs. Anastasia mentioned that ARC has already secured a similar space for their students’ needs. The 2nd resolution for the Academic Senate is as follows: Whereas, the Social Responsibility Committee recommends that Cosumnes River College move forward without delay for an inclusive mediation space accessible to everyone in the campus community; Resolved, the Cosumnes River College Academic Senate asserts its support of an inclusive meditation space on campus. Currently, a pilot program is being proposed for spring where by a space will be open 3 days a week for 6 consecutive hours under faculty supervision. The hope is that a permanent space will be secured. The suggestion of the use of portables would be too far away. Anastasia agreed to start the process by contacting Amber Larson and Frances Anderson to look for available space. V. VIII. Other Upcoming Events Jason mentioned the upcoming voter registration plans for the 2018 elections in June and November 2018. SRC with support and participate as well. IX. Other Issues: Many members of the committee voiced frustration with the burdensome bureaucratic process for the processing of vendor packets. For most events, each point person for a CRC event, along with the vendor, must complete a large vendor packet in order for the vendor to be paid; as well, the time required to receive payment for services is ridiculously long and causes embarrassment for CRC faculty who organize such events. The data will be available very early, but the analysis, conclusions and recommendations will require more time. The meditation space will be available within a few weeks in BS 144. Although the space is small, holding 6-7 people, and is not really conducive to the need, it is the first step. The issue now is the acquisition of the key. Also, the committee is looking for faculty to monitor the space.
