What is Social Media (SM)?
Social Who?Social What?
OH! Social Media!
Social media is the online forum and practice that people use to SHARE thoughts, insights, ideas, experiences, and perspectives with one another.
It’s not sales media – it’s SOCIAL MEDIA!
Social Media Marketing
What is the benefit of SM?
So far, I know one benefit of SM is ________________.
Social Media is an effective way to:
• Engage with current customers & network (customer service)
• Pitch products in a more “human” way• Inform, communicate, and chat• Build interaction with the community & reach new
customers• Increase loyalty & trust• More traffic to your website and storefront

Why is it important for my brand?
There are many reasons why Social Media is an essential business tool and platform. Here are a few:
- 3 out of 4 Americans use Social technology - Visiting social sites is now the 4th most popular online
activity - ahead of personal email. - Time spent on social networks is growing at 3 times and
accounts for 10% of all internet time- Average FB users spends 7hrs/month and average TW
user spends 2hrs/month- Social media is like Word of Mouth on steroids with the
average user having 130 connections- 93% of Social Media users believe a company should have
a presence in Social Media- Purchasing power
- 51% of FB users will buy after they “like” a business fanpage
- 61% of TW users will buy after they “follow” a brand- Local Audience
- 25+ on FB (Palm Coast)- Your competitor is probably using Social Media, and if they
are not, they will soon

3 Pieces to the Puzzle
Social Engagement
Social Awareness
Social Measurement
Social media is reinventing marketing, communications, and the dissemination of information. While businesses now have access to these rich channels, the true promise of social media lies in the social engagement, awareness, and measurement.
Social Media Marketing
Social Engagement
To grow your network and provide value to your fans/ followers, you need to engage. That means publishing great content; and publishing often, interacting and finding ways to activate your network, but you can’t always make time for it and often don’t know what to say.
Why it’s important: Have you heard of the degrees of Kevin Bacon? Essentially two people are linked if they’ve been in a movie together with Kevin Bacon. In terms of social media two people are linked between conversations on your page. If you don’t have engagement, you’re not exposing yourself to that 2nd link.
From stimulating discussion on your product, to creating a poll, to running deals, to creating check-in’s, to the social media promotions, to growing your network, to responding to customers - build your network, foster a strong community around your brand, and provide the most engaging conversation for your business

Social Awareness
Monitoring (or perhaps the more appropriate definition is “listening”) is the process of continuous and immediate discovery of conversations with the purpose of learning, engaging, helping and collaborating.
Why it’s important: My favorite analogy for social media is that it’s like the “largest cocktail party in the world.” It’s a room filled with people driven by one desire to communicate, share, digest and relate. Some of these conversations can be about you, your competitors, products you sell, or your industry. They will talk about all these topics regardless of whether you are listening or not. However, you wouldn’t know any of this if you weren’t listening. But once you start listening, the volume can be overwhelming.
Tools will help you to listen to what people are saying about your product or service, respond to your customers and echo positive comments from conversations.

Social Measurement
You need to know how your social media is going, but you can’t always look through all of the numbers. Measurement is at the center of any good R.O.I. but gathering metrics is complex and time consuming.
Why it’s important: You will probably want to see and understand some metrics that justify your company’s social media marketing. But that’s only a part of the story. Constant benchmarking is the only sure fire way to know if things are working. Social media is a quickly evolving beast, so if you don’t routinely measure and course-correct, you could be marching down the wrong path.
