So Who Am I?
• I’m Nick Rovisa
I used a mix of social and real-life networking to land a digital gig in New York City, and I’m going to tell you how I did it and how you can too. Trust me, it’s not rocket science.. Or is it?Nick Rovisa – Rocket Scientist

What does everyone want to be when they grow up?
Question before we start

My Social Strategy
My social strategy was to be on everything at all times and it worked for me.
YOU should NOT be on everything just for the sake of being on everything.
![Page 8: Social Media + IRL Networking = A Job! A real life success story](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062703/5552990fb4c905e8128b4dc6/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
My best piece of advice
“At the core, marketing and communications is about building relationships, but the key is knowing how to do it in a way that feels relevant and authentic to someone.”- Charlene Li, Author, Open Leadership
If you remember nothing else, make it be this:
Be Relevant and Authentic
![Page 9: Social Media + IRL Networking = A Job! A real life success story](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062703/5552990fb4c905e8128b4dc6/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Authenticity in action
![Page 10: Social Media + IRL Networking = A Job! A real life success story](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062703/5552990fb4c905e8128b4dc6/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Working your “strategy”

Develop your personal brand & stay true to your mission
• Who are you? What’s your story? What do you do? What do you want? What do you stand for?

Be active and smart online
1. Follow agencies you’re interested in– Follow some employees too
2. If co. just published something, comment on it.
3. When you think the time is right, try and take the conversation to the next level.
– Ask for an intro or schedule and informational meeting
4. Stay up-to-date and congratulate them on biz wins and new work.
5. If interested in a specific role, check out their employees on Linkedin and the professional journeys they took before landing their position.
Always think organic conversation over forced.
Don’t be annoying, but be real.
Use Tweetchats: #PRstudChat #u30pro #TNGG #JobHuntChat

Mix in the real thing
“When attending a meetup, conference or HH (Limit yourself to 2 drinks) - mingle. Act like you're the host. Do your research on the attendees such as, checking out their last 10 tweets. Say you find out another attendee is a (Penn State) grad too. Well, now you've got yourself a conversation starter. During the event, and if you own a smart phone, go ahead and bump to be connected on Linkedin. After the event, follow up with an email, Linkedin request, or a time to meet up to continue a conversation. Ditch any canned messages/invitations. Be personal.”

Hustle, rinse, repeat
“Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.”
![Page 15: Social Media + IRL Networking = A Job! A real life success story](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062703/5552990fb4c905e8128b4dc6/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Questions?? (My favorite part!)
These should help you get started if you can’t think of any:
- Nick, what do you think of Google+ as a tool in job search?
- Should I use my real name on social networks?
- How do you get your hair to stay so nice?
![Page 16: Social Media + IRL Networking = A Job! A real life success story](https://reader035.vdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062703/5552990fb4c905e8128b4dc6/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
We’ve reached the end…for now
Once again, thanks for listening. You’re all wonderful.
Go confidently.
-Nick
