Shame Related to Unreported
RapeBy: Brooke Elliott
60% of sexual assaults are not reported…
Approximately 73% of rape victims know their assailants…
Is it embarrassment?
Is it shame?
Or is it fear?
Only 6% of rapists will ever spend a day in jail…
They are your neighbors…
They are family members…
They are our boyfriends or girlfriends…
Plan of Action:
• My plan of Action is to have a speaker attend a Panhellenic Meeting in the Spring next semester to talk to the Panhellenic women about rape and my Social Injustice.
• On campus already, and in Greek Village, I have chalked the sidewalks with the RAINN Website and Contact information.
• College age women are 4 times more likely to be sexually assaulted.
• Being a victim myself, I want other girls to know that they are not alone and actions can still take place. It is never too late for someone to share their story and have something be done about it.
• I want the Speaker to talk about precautions that can be taken to avoid rape situations or how to get out of dangerous situations.
• I want the speaker to inform the women of places where they can go to get help and more information, or maybe just someone to talk to.
• I plan on proposing to undertake RAINN as the Panhellenic Philanthropy of the year.
• Step in, Step Out
