Social Entrepreneurs - Making our world a better place through enterprise:

UOI 4 Festival of Love

As part of our UOI 4 about How We Organize Ourselves, we had to create a social enterprise/business. As a whole class we formulated a

business plan and presented it to our bank (our teachers) to get approval for funding. We had to practice working together to resolve conflicts and differences of opinion. We had to plan our expenses, calculate expected gross profit and net profit; and organise materials as needed.

Last Friday was a challenging, but fantastic experience for us to develop a better understanding of how economic systems are established, and to support a great cause. This year, we worked hard to make our business sustainable.

Sustainable development and sustainable living are where you develop things and live without hurting the world so that our future generations can live in a clean, green world.

Grade 5 learned that creating a business no longer just about making a profit. We all have a responsibility to make sure that every business is sustainable. This means that every business must help to make their community stronger and not hurt our earth. Our businesses were sustainable in that we tried to not use plastic or waste resources (goal #11, 12, 13, 14 and 15) and even met one of the goals # 8 - decent work and economic growth! We encouraged each other to do our best. We also raised money to help reduce inequalities (goal #10), and provide quality education (Goal #4) to the Muang Ka School in Chiang Mai, that we visited during our Chiang Mai field trip. Together our Grade 5 community raised more than 20000 baht. We are helping the local children to get a quality education, so that they too, can make our world better.
