Well, another year has rolled around and here we are at our sixth instalment of the Emergence Creative Festival! We’re excited to bring a host of incredible people to the region from around Australia and the world this year who are ‘breaking the mould’ across their various industries and sectors and we are looking forward to learning about their journeys. We’re equally excited to be showcasing some incredible Western Australian and South West creative talent throughout the festival, as well as launching new initiatives such as Generation Content and the Plastic Free Future interactive campaign under the ‘Emergence Projects’ banner. What some may not know is that Emergence is a not-for-profit, a product of the Creative Corner Inc (the peak industry body for the Creative Industries in the South West) and it takes a village of incredibly generous and passionate people to pull this event together. We are so very appreciative of all the support we receive from our various partners, volunteers, steering committee and board, with a big shout-out to our Emergence Chairman Mat Lewis and Creative Corner

Chair Marnie McKeown. We are also appreciative to everyone who purchases a ticket, shares a post, brings a team down and continues to come back. It’s because of all of you we’re still here for our sixth year, and hopefully many more to come. So, soak in the surrounds of all this beautiful region has to offer, meet new faces, learn new things and most importantly, have fun!As we say each year, bring it on!

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM HON PAUL PAPALIA CSC MLA, MINISTER FOR TOURISM AND HON ALANNAH MACTIERNAN MLC, MINISTER FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The McGowan Government is a proud sponsor of the Emergence Creative Festival through its Regional Events Scheme. The scheme was devised as a way for the Government to support smaller and emerging events in regional Western Australia to boost tourism, increase community vibrancy and participation, and develop regional areas. The Regional Events Scheme plays an important role in positioning Western Australia as an exciting destination to visit and a great place to live by showcasing and promoting a region’s unique and diverse attractions. In 2017-18, 62 diverse regional events across Western Australia have received funding through the Regional Events Scheme. Tourism is a key pillar of the McGowan Government’s plan to diversify the economy, create jobs and develop business opportunities, especially in regional Western Australia. In 2016-17, visitors spent

$10.1 billion in the State, including $4.5 billion in regional areas. We hope everyone enjoys the event and takes the time to explore the South West region.

UR INSPIRING SPE KERS Our speakers have travelled from across Australia and the world to share their journeys and give you an insight into the different ways they’re ‘breaking the mould’ in their field. Crossing film, photography, content creation, music, advertising, social, digital, photography and art, they’ll make sure you leave the festival inspired and with a wealth of new knowledge.

CONFER NCE THEME‘BREAKING THE MOULD’

This theme came from the notion that creative industries have begun to move beyond ‘disruption’ and commenced questioning the traditional modes of the ‘work place’ and the fundamental linear approach to process. Be it continued globalisation or decentralisation, flexibility of work hours and locations, talent detection, the narrative approach to brands and communications, overhauling of traditional marketing-distribution-sales models, industry collaboration or collision, content creation and consumption…breaking the mould of how things have been done and paving a new way.

LEVERAGING CREATIVITY AND CULTURE IN TOURISM

A panel discussion The Western Australian tourism offering is predominantly centred around food, wine and natural attractions but an emerging thread is its creative and cultural offerings; in its events as well as through processes in existing industries (wine-making, brewing and distilling, food and produce). How can we leverage Creativity and Culture in a more strategic way to drive visitation? Join the conversation at Wills Domain on Friday at 2.30pm.
