15-Minute-a-Day Social Media Formula

Social Networking is a great resource to grow your connection and audience for your business. But it can also be the biggest time sucker EVA… In this document, I am going to help you learn how you can wrangle your time back by managing your social media in 15 minutes { or so } a day.

I want you to be successful at being consistent with your marketing.

Set a timer, don’t be obsessive about the amount of minutes you spend in each area, just be mindful. It is easy to get lost and lose track of time when you are not tracking it.

One of my favorite tools for those that want to get started is Co-Schedule makes it easy to manage all social networks in one area! You can see a the dashboard of all networks together in one place.

Being consistent with your online presence is key to growing and success. I also included a few other tools below that will help you manage all of your social media in one spot!

00-02 Minutes Update Your Status

This probably will not take you the full 2-minutes but be engaging withyour post that you’re making. And the key to attracting people is to BE POSITIVE!! Don’t get me wrong, it is OK to post that you are having a bad day but I suggest only doing this when extremely necessary or if you have a funny story to go with it.

Negative posts bring me down when I read them, focus on the good, make people smile or want to click the “like” or retweet button!

Adding humor to anything is creating a positive reaction too!

Don’t take too long on this; it should be quick and simple! With a social scheduler, you can post quickly to all of your networks at once, or different posts to different networks quickly and all in one spot! You can also use the 2-minutes to set up additional status updates that will post in the future! Be as productive during this 15-minutes as you can. Your only focus should be on your social media.

This was the shortest amount of time, because this is actually the least important part of your social networking plan.

02-06 Minutes @replies, DMs, & Comments

Take this time to go through each network checking on any tags or @replies, DMs or Direct messages, and Comments on your posts. Which can all be handled through Hootsuite if you want to really save time, rather than having to sign into multiple networks you can sign in to one and handle them all there.

This is an important step in social networking. Engaging with your connections, especially “fans” is how you can connect with them on a deeper level than you can by blogging or sending out emails to them.

Twitter, Instagram and Facebook have a direct messaging feature that allows you to send private messages via those social networks. Be respectful and don’t spam but use this space to connect deeper with your online connections. If someone sends you a DM about your services or programs, take the time to reply to it. Like now! They are a HOT Prospect and you have to strike while the iron is hot! BAM!

When connecting with people online, do not act like a groupie or a fan! I repeat, do NOT act like a groupie or fan! Think about how bands treat their groupies, no respect and they probably think their groupies are a wee bit crazy. Right?! Treat everyone like you are on the same level as them. Pretend to chat with them online like you would if you were in-person having coffee together. Be genuine and real.

ENGAGE with them!

06-10 MinutesRead all Newsfeeds & Interact

Take a few minutes for each network to be down with OPP. Are you down with OPP? Engage with Other People’s Posts. Using Hootsuite, you can read the feeds on each network and easily connect and engage with Other People’s Posts.

Search out specific #hashtags to find images, updates, or conversations to comment on.

Remember it’s not all about you and what you have going on. To create and form relationships with people who have no idea who you are, you must first engage with them and support them.

Comment on photos, links, and status updates. Interact with those who interact on your posts. Meet & Engage with new people! Like your colleagues pages and share their post on your page! This is not the place to be an introvert! It really is that simple. If you are going to spend extra time on any area, here is a great place to spend it at if it is business related. Commenting on your cousin’s boyfriend’s baby sister’s post is NOT part of being social for business.

The numbers for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, & Pinterestspeak for themselves and why you should be utilizing these stepsand meeting new people! I don’t recommend that you are on ALL of those social sites, JUST the ones that your potential customers are active on. If you don’t have any social sites for your business, just start with ONE and really ROCK IT OUT!

10-15 Minutes Group Mingling

LinkedIn & Facebook have group options that you can search and join based on your interest, industries, and hobbies! Did you know that?

Take the last five minutes to search for groups to join, introduce yourself when accepted. Take some time to read posts in the groups that you already belong to. Build relationships with members of these groups. Interact on their posts by liking them or commenting. You will slowly start to build a new network of contacts! You can join mine at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thealistentrepreneursclub

Once you have joined groups and introduced yourself, you can post your own blog post, updates, and questions in the group to help engage with the other peeps in the group. Be sure to read their guidelines so that you know you are following the rules.

This is an underutilized social marketing tool and I see Facebook Groups being an important piece of your social media strategy. Groups are a new audience at your fingertips every time you join a new one. I don’t recommend going into these groups and spamming them with your posts and products.

I DO recommend building relationships with the people inside the group, being an expert, and support system.

Be of value.

Bonus TipsDon’t you just love bonus tips! I know I do!

1. To receive the most out of your social networking experience! Find useful links and blog posts that are associated with your niche. Post about 10-15 useful links a week for maximum exposure and interaction.

2. When creating status updates, tag people or pages in your post on Facebook and use @replies the same way on Twitter. Especially when doing Bonus Tip #1, tag the pages that you are sharing the content from. This will show up on that person’s feed or page feed. That person or page’s followers will see these tags giving you exposure to a new group of people!

To tag a person on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter, type the “@” in the status update and then start typing that person’s name or username!
