Father/Son Pro Gas final

highlights Race #3 at Auto

Club Dragway By Bob Johnson Auto Club Dragway Fontana, Calif.,

March 8, 2015

A father-son Pro Gas final round highlighted the SoCal

drag racing series competition at Auto Club Dragway, when

Brenden Herem and son Ryan Herem of Quartz Hill, Calif.,

met in the final round of competition in the Southern Califor-

nia Pro Gas series, with dad Brenden using a .006 reaction

time for the association-sponsored event win.

Karen Comstock recorded a perfect 9.900 with her ’57

Chevy BelAir for the number one qualifying spot, followed by

Travis Balough, Brad Pierce, and Mike Boner, all recording

9.90 qualifying times.

Brenden Herem went to the final round by defeating

Randy Fabbro in the first round, he used a 9.901 in the second

round to beat Mike Boner, and in round 3 he defeated Edmon-

ton, AB, Canada-racer Eddy Plaizier with a .009 light.

Brenden got a bye into the final.

Brenden’s son Ryan—a former Indy Nationals Super

Gas champion and NHRA Division champion in Super

Street—had his finest racing weekend of the season by going

to both Pro Gas finals. Ryan squeaked by Kevin McClelland

in the first round of Sunday’s race, he beat the previous day’s

winner Travis Balough in round two, and in the third round he

and Mike Blodgett Jr both ran identical 9.941 times with Her-

em getting the win via a .002 better reaction time. In the sem-

ifinal he stopped defending series champion Val Torres Jr,

9.906 to a 9.901---Herem had a .011 better reaction.

The final round was a classic between two tough Can-

yon Racing drag racers from Quartz Hill, Calif., as

Brenden used a .006 light and 9.911, 140.84 mph with his

’69 Camaro to stop son Ryan, losing with a 9.910, 153.13

with his ’62 Corvette. Moving into the July races at Auto

Club Dragway, Ryan has 178 points, followed by

Brenden and Val Torres Jr., tied with 177.

Brenden Herem has really adopted to Auto Club Drag-

way in Fontana this season, as he also was the grand prize

winner of a Huntsville Racing Engines complete 582

Chevy engine for winning the Huntsville Super Pro

Shootout at the recent Figspeed West Coast Classic at

Fontana.

The Southern California Pro Gas Association re-

sumes its 2015 drag racing schedule on July 11-12 at

Auto Club Drag-

way in Fontana.
