SCOTTISH ORIENTEERING ASSOCIATION DEVELOPMENT FUND

Information for Applicants

Applications are invited from SOA clubs for financial support for club development projects. Applications might also come from groups of clubs or Regional Associations for projects that benefit this wider group. Depending on demand, the likely upper limit for funding will be about £1000.

Applications must be submitted by a club official (president, secretary or treasurer) and must be for a specific project with specific targets. The application should show how the project fits into the overall development strategy of the club. The application should also explain how benefits from the project will be sustained into future years.

Projects that assist in increasing levels of participation and club membership will receive priority. These could include grassroots development e.g. junior coaching, delivering orienteering to the local community or projects aimed at more advanced levels of orienteering, e.g. adult coaching, volunteer development, will also be considered. Examples of items for which it would be appropriate to seek support are mapping costs, equipment costs, special event costs, the cost of providing coaching, the cost of incentive schemes, the cost of promoting orienteering, but items are not restricted to these examples. It is unlikely that funds will be awarded for anything that could be interpreted as recurrent, e.g. travel costs to annual events.

The Project Description should show that the club has enough appropriately skilled/qualified people to complete the project.

The project should have an itemised budget that is submitted along with the application, and clubs must also submit a copy or transcript of their club accounts. It is expected that Clubs will have tried or be trying to attract funds from other sources, e.g., Local Authority funders – see http://www.scottish-orienteering.org/soa/page/funding-opportunities/ , or be contributing a reasonable amount from their own funds to permit us to support as many worthy projects as possible.

Project descriptions should also give the time-scale of the project. Clubs receiving support will be required to submit a report on their project, including a record of how the award money is being spent, after six months. For projects running for more than six months, a six-monthly report will be required.

Application deadline: 30th November 2017. Applications will be considered by the SOA Development Director assisted by the Events Manager. Clubs will then be notified of the outcome of their application shortly after submission.

Applications should be submitted to Colin Matheson, National Orienteering Centre, Glenmore Lodge, Aviemore, PH22 1QZ, email: [email protected]. Please contact Colin Matheson in the first instance if you require more information.
