Enough already with this Covid stuff! I’m sure we all agree that it has over stayed its welcome. I should probably
re-phrase that last statement, as it was never welcomed in the first place. An upshot of this whole deal is that we
have had plenty of time to get some of the piddly stuff done around the house & yard that have been on the to-do
list for ages. I have been out in the shop doing odds and ends on Lil Darlin’. In fact, I did a little project on her,
yesterday, that should have been done 15 years ago. In my defense, some of these jobs have been on the back
burner waiting for that new paint job, and it sure is fun getting some of these things done!
Sadly, this past weekend, We had to say goodbye to the fellow who got me
into this car hobby 60 years ago. My friend Greg passed away at the age of
84. Greg was the older brother of my friend Dave, and he had a 1924 Model
T Touring car that he bought in 1954 with the $35.00 he got as graduation
presents from high school. The amazing thing is that the “T” still sits in
Greg’s garage after 66 years, and has been restored 3 times! Greg’s friends
were all car guys. They all seemed happy to have these punk kids hanging
around while they tinkered with their old cars, trying to keep them running
(no street rods or customs with that gang) or they made it seem that way.
Naturally, when Dave & I were old enough, we gravitated into the hobby, as
well. In the attached photo, taken a few years ago, I can be seen getting refreshed on the workings of a Model T
by Greg, just before taking her out on a spin. I loved that car!
Depending on the aforementioned Covid stuff, it will remain to be seen if we can have a club meeting in August.
It’s getting to be that time of the year where we have to start thinking about club elections. With the loss of our
Summer Spectacular for this year, there hasn’t been much to do with club business. I certainly hope we can get
back to normal in 2021. We hope you are all staying safe from the nasty consequences of this virus. Find an ex-
cuse to get your ride out for a cruise once in awhile. See you out there somewhere. DB

DUANE’S WORLD
LIL DARLIN’ DROPS A CYLINDER Isn’t that always the case, just when you think things are going well, some gremlin has to come along and throw a
wrench into the works, (pun intended). Last
week, I went to start my ‘38 up, and when I
turned the key, nothing happened. My first
thought was that I had left something on and
drained the battery, but nooo, The battery
was fine! I decided that something broke in
the steering column. I had a good idea what
it was after being down this road before, sev-
eral years ago. But I found out after tearing
down the column, it was something different from the previous time. I found a broken lock cylinder. After some
time on the internet, and a call to my friend at Eagan NAPA, I came home with an exact copy of the broken unit.
Another small miracle! This is the third time I have been into the innards of my column, and I’m becoming quite
an expert on Saginaw steering columns! Photos by the editor

ATTENDING A PARADE OR CAR SHOW? CLUB BANNERS & CAR MAGNETS AVAILABLE
I know that this year, parades & car shows are few and far between. I would like to remind you that if you wish to
advertise our club while at these events, I have the large club banners. (You’re on your own to put them up, I
have no poles). I also have a couple of magnets, advertised as non-scratching, to attach to your car. If you would
like to use these, call me at 952-894-3165.

BILL CORSON CAR SHOW
Within the year, Southern Cruzers, Bill & Carolyn Corson moved into their new home at the Applewood Pointe of
Eagan. In June, we had a chance to do a drive-by in honor of Bill’s birthday. After doing so, many of the resi-
dents requested Bill to host a car show, so they could have a closer look at our cars. Sunday, July 12 turned out
to be a very nice day, albeit, a little breezy, which had many making sure their lawn chairs didn’t end up in Bloom-
ington! On a happy side note, I found an old car friend and his wife from the Model “A” club who I hadn’t seen in
over 30 years. They are also residents of the same complex, but just like me, their Model “A” is long gone!
Thanks, Bill, for giving us a chance to get our cars out and a chance to enjoy a beautiful summer day!
