SECTION 3Challenge:

The teams have to compete in two rounds, static round and the dynamic round. Points aredistinctively divided for the two rounds.

3.1 Static Round (100pts)

JUDGEMENT CATEGORIES AND POINT DISTRIBUTION:

3.1.1 Documentation:During the static round soft copy as well as hard copy of all reports should be submitted.

1) Overall Design Report: This report should contain the design methods, detailedspecification sheet of the bike & the calculations used for the overall design.

2) Cost Report: The manufacturing cost of the vehicle should be presented with scanned billswhich should exactly match the cost report submitted which has separate point.

3.2.1 Technical Inspection (T.I):

1. Objective:

The objective of Technical Inspection round is to determine whether the bike possess therequirements and restrictions of RPM 2K17 rules.

Each Bike must pass all stages of Technical Inspection and testing before it ispermitted to participate in any dynamic event. The exact procedures and instrumentsemployed for inspection and testing are entirely at the discretion of the ChiefTechnical Inspector.

Bikes must be presented for technical inspection in finished condition, i.e. fullyassembled, completed and ready-to-run, unless it will not be allowed for inspection.

2. Corrections:

If a Bike does not comply with the rules, then correction must be done before re-inspectionprocess.

3. Technical Viva:

The team members will be asked questions in design and fabrication of minibike and theirroles of engineering practices of the teams will also be evaluated. The decision taken by thejudges are final and no more arguments will be entertained.

Page 13: SNSCOLLEGEOFENGINEERING 2K17 Rule Book.pdf · PISTON CUP 3rd NATIONAL LEVEL MINI-BIKE DESGIN, FABRICATION AND RACING CONTEST SECTION I 1.1 Introduction 1.1.1 About us SNS College

4. Cost report:

The expenses for the components used in the bike must be specified. The report will be crossverified by the inspection team. The actual cost must not vary with the report.

5. Manufacturing Level:

Good engineering practice will reflect a great manufacturing quality. The Bike will beexamined by the judges at the time of static round. The participating teams are advised tomanufacture the bike with pre-planned strategies, so that the bike would be able to competein several tasks and tests.

3.2.1 Dynamic Tests:

1.Brake Test:Objective: The brake test evaluates the braking and stability of the bike.

Procedure: All the teams have to pass the brake test in order to participate in otherDynamic Events. The bike must stop in a straight line after brake is applied. Each bike willbe given 2attempts to pass the brake test.

2. Acceleration Test:

Objective: The acceleration test evaluates the Bike’s accelerationin a straight line on a flat pavement.

Procedure: The rider has to cross the given distance at certaintime. The points will be given based on the time taken to cross thedistance.

Note: The teams will participate in the next round only aftersuccessful completion of brake and acceleration.

3. Skid Pad test (figure of 8):

Objective- The objective of the skid-pad event is to measure the Bike’s corneringability on a flat surface while making a constant- radius turn.

1. Skid Pad Layout- There will be the two concentric circles in a figure of eight pattern. There will be inner circle and outer circle in the figure. The driving path will be the inner andouter circles. The bikes will enter and exit through the gates on a wide path that is tangentialto the circles where they meet. The line between the centre defines the start/stop line andreturning to the start/stop line.

Procedure:

The bike will enter the middle of the figure of 8 track and take one full lap on theright circle to establish the turn and the bike must move on to the left circle tocomplete the lap. This completes one lap and time will be noted. Immediately uponfinishing the circle the lap will be completed, and the bike will exit the track. The bikewill exit at the intersection moving in the same direction as entered.

Page 15: SNSCOLLEGEOFENGINEERING 2K17 Rule Book.pdf · PISTON CUP 3rd NATIONAL LEVEL MINI-BIKE DESGIN, FABRICATION AND RACING CONTEST SECTION I 1.1 Introduction 1.1.1 About us SNS College

Penalties:

Cones/Tyres Down or Out, Leg Touching the Ground, Bike Going out of Track.Note: 3seconds will be added to the time for each penalty.

Unfinished: If the bike get off during Skid pad test, the bike will be allotted 20seconds penalties by the judges and allowed to participate in next round. The teamwill have only one chance to pass the skip pad test.

The teams will be permitted to endurance track after completing these tests, in case offailure the team will be allotted a penalty of 25seconds.

4. Endurance event:

Objective: The endurance event is designed to evaluate the bike’s overallperformance, reliability and efficiency.

Procedure& Specifications:

The rider rides the bike in the given track. The track consists of obstacles with standingwater, muddy sand, bridges and rocks. The cones/tyres are placed at the side of the track. Thecones present in the track shows the limit of the track. The rider must ride the bike within thetrack. In general, the teams completing the laps in the shortest time will earn the maximum marksavailable in the round.

Endurance Penalties: The penalties in effect during the endurance event are listedbelow: Cones/Tyres Down or Out, Leg Touching the Ground, Bike Going out of Track.

Note: 3seconds will be added to the time for each penalty.

Off Course (OC): In case of an off Course, the rider will be given time of 3minutesto re-enter the track. The time taken to repair the bikes will be taken into accountduring endurance. If the team fails to re-enter the track within 3minutes, the teamwill be disqualified and the team subjected to second off course will be disqualifiedat the moment. There will be no more arguments the team has to walk out of theevent.

Preference will be given to the team which has not gone off-course.

No obstacles should be skipped during the course of the track.
