SSicamous AreaBlue Lake - Sicamous Access: driveapprox. 17 kms east of Sicamous on theTrans Canada to Malakwa Loop Road.Turn south and then right on OxbowFrontage Road.The first left is Yard CreekLoop Road. Go to the end, about 2.5 km,to where the Yard Creek Forest Roadbegins.This area is rapidly gaining popularitydue to recent trail improvements andregular grooming. It features wide open,alpine and sub alpine terrain with ridingfor everyone from beginners to experts.A chalet is planned for the future but, inthe meantime, be prepared for a longday without a chance to warm up.Elevation is over 2000 meters.

Eagles Pass - Sicamous Access: theaccess road starts approx 29 km east ofSicamous off the Trans Canada Hwy. Turnnorth just past Beardale Castle. Driveabout .5 km (through the gravel pit) tostart of the East Perry Forest ServiceRoad.This fabulous area is just beginningto be opened up. It offers breathtakingviews, lofty peaks and a vast riding area.At present, the access road is beinggroomed for approx. 25 kms to near thealpine.There is no chalet or marked trailsbeyond this point. Be well prepared asthe area is rugged and remote.Werecommend that you first go withsomeone that knows the area. Elevationis well over 2000 meters allowing for anextended riding season.

Owlhead - Sicamous Access: turn southoff the Trans Canada Hwy at the PetroCanada and Esso gas stations and turnleft immediately at MacLean/MacPherson Rd.Take this road for approx1 km to the parking area at the start ofthe Owlhead Forest Service Road.Thispopular area features a great chalet and

varied riding terrain for everyone, fromnovices to extreme sledders. Its highelevation (over 2000 meters) ensuresgood riding until late spring. Be sure tocheck out Super Bowl and Video Hill forsome serious hill climbing.

Queest - Sicamous Access: turn north offthe Trans Canada Hwy onto theSicamous/Solsqua Road (beside theAbide With Inn). Travel for 1 km to thestart of the 1800 Forest Service Road onthe left. Grooming usually starts at thebase unless there is active logging. Ifthere is, and the road is plowed, use theparking lot just after the 14 km marker.This well established hill has a fine chaletand 35 square km. of riding country withdeep powder and exciting hill climbs.The access trails have wonderful views ofthe Eagle Valley & the Shuswap and MaraLakes.Elevation is over 2000 metersallowing for good sledding wellinto spring.

!Caution!All these mountain areas can betreacherous.Whenever snowmobilingin a new area, it is wise to check withexperienced local riders first regardingsnow and weather conditions, routesand potential hazards. If in doubt, orweather conditions are variable, stay onwell used trails and riding areas. Besure to sign in at the chalets and letothers know where you are going.

Be a good sportsman. Recognizethat people judge all snowmobilersby your actions. Use your influencewith other snowmobilers topromote sportsmanlike conduct.

• Never snowmobile alone! Alwaysgo with a friend!

• Use your headlights at all times• Wear an approved helmet• Assist other snowmobilers in

trouble• Ensure someone outside your

party knows where you are goingand when you are expected back

• Sign the guest book at the chalets• Respect warning signs and stay

out of prohibited areas• Watch for, and yield to trail

grooming equipment• Check with the Canadian

Avalanche Centre for risk levelsbefore using alpine or backcountry areas

• Watch for sudden changes inweather

• Carry an emergency kit with firstaid supplies, high energy foodand a thermos with hot liquids ifyou are entering remote areas

• Do not disturb wildlife• Respect other people’s property

and rights• Avoid snowmobiling on cross-

country ski trails• Avoid interfering with the

activities of other wintersportsmen

• Do not ride over trees or shrubs• Drugs and alcohol are prohibited

Falkland AreaAccess: 1) Take Silvernails Road ontoBolean Lake Road, travel forapproximately 3 km from Hwy 97 tolanding or snowline.2) Take Chase-Falkland Road for approximately 5km to Arthur Road.Then 1 km to the landing orto snowline.3) Chase-Falkland Road travel approximately 8km then turn onto Blair Road to small parkingarea just off the road or to snowline.4) Chase-Falkland Road travel approximately11 km then turn onto Lisa Road and park atsnowline. All road access is subject to currentlogging activity in the area at the time.

Warm Up Shelters at Bolean Lake and above SpaLake. Maps are post in cabin.

Trails: approximately 80km of marked trails in the Bolean,Arthur, and Spa Lake areas.Trails also connect to the SalmonArm Snow Blazers riding area. Riding through clear cuts,meadows and burned off areas.The area offers a range ofriding areas from beginner to moderate riding ability.

Spa Hills Snowmobile Club.

Salmon Arm AreaFly Hills Area - Just 10 minutes west of downtown SalmonArm lies the Fly Hills Snowmobile and Recreation Area.This large region encompasses approx. 50 squarekilometers of some of the finest family orientatedriding in BC.The majority of riding takes place atthe 4500 ft elevation which ensures good snowconditions from mid November to March. Thesnowmobile trails offer an excellent variety ofriding without the intimidation factorassociated with the high alpine.Trails are wellmapped and ample signage will guide allcalibers of sledders safely around themountain and back to the parking lot at theend of the day. Snowmobiling in this area hasbeen managed by the Salmon Arm SnowBlazers snowmobile club since the early ‘70s andthey always welcome new members. The clubrecently built a large, comfortable chalet andgrooms the main trails frequently. If you enjoysnowmobiling in wide open spaces with safe trails,great views and a family friendly atmosphere then lookno further than the Fly Hills in Salmon Arm.

The Trails: Starting from the easy to access parking lot,riders are greeted with a wide, well groomed, 14 kilometertrail to a large plateau that makes up the Fly Hills. Thismain access road alone gives the snowmobile riderfantastic views of the District of Salmon Arm, ShuswapLake and the surrounding countryside. From Old CabinJunction use the trail information sign to plan your route.You can either turn right to access the Main Chalet, GranitePeak or Skimikin Lake or left to access areas such as MooseMeadows, Soccer Ball, or the Cut-Block. The main trails areWallensteen and China Valley which are groomed regularly bySnow Blazer volunteers. From these, several secondary,ungroomed trails interconnect or loop back making the totalcombined length of all trails exceed several hundred kilometers.Many interesting spots include the Cut-Block where you can hill climbor spend time eating lunch while enjoying the panoramic view of theShuswap Lake. Moose Meadows is a popular spot with the locals as wellas the Soccer Ball, the microwave transmitting station that resembles theshape of (you guessed it). Overall, the snowmobiler can expect a widevariety of trail conditions and scenery in the Fly Hills. Beautiful, panoramicviews abound and one day spent here will definitely leave you wantingmore.

Getting There: From the Trans-Canada Highway, 5km west of downtownSalmon Arm, turn south onto the Salmon River Rd. Drive 1.2 km and turnright onto Christison Rd. (13th Avenue SW). Proceed up the hill for 1.2 kmand turn left on 5th Avenue SW. Continue left as 5th Ave turns into 60thSt. and then 15th Ave. Upon reaching the Forest Service Road it is only 2km to the Main Staging Area.

Please note: The Salmon Arm Snow Blazers charge users of its facilities areasonable trail fee. Trail fees can be purchased from an attendant in theparking lot.
