HOHA DuesThe 2014 HOHA membership dues drive will be kicked
off at the annual HOHA Family picnic on August 24. Bring cash, check, or credit card for paying your dues. Can’t make the picnic, send your check to Membership Committee, 2240 s. 148 Avenue, Omaha, Ne 68144 or drop off your dues at the annual “Dues Drive-thru” at the Harvey Oaks Baptist Church. Date and times will be released at a later date. Checks should be made out to the Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association.
Dues are $25.00 per year and one of the best bargains around. Also at this time, residents can purchase 2013 luminary kits at a cost of $3.00 for a dozen. Donations can be made to the 2014 fireworks display with your dues payment.

The new entrance sign at 151st & wCenter Road has been installed. we elevated the sign to make it more visible from 151st street and wCenter Road. Bresette Masonry did a great job and was a pleasure to work with.
The next step is to landscape the area around the new sign. we need to raise the grade of the area around the sign to hide the concrete block foundation or build a retaining wall of landscape blocks around the sign. Then fill in the space between the wall and the sign with dirt and plant shrubs and or flowers around the sign. The retaining wall would also protect the sign from errant traffic. I will be meeting with landscape design people to develop a landscape plan.

You might think of your seats as being pretty simple. After all, you just sit in them, and drive around. But seats get more and more complex every year.
In the old days, seats were pretty simple. To move them forward or backwards, you pulled up on a lever to release the track, and manually slide yourself forward or backwards.
The next step forward were power seats. Power comes into bottom of the seat, and there are a number of electric motors underneath that can push the seat forward or backwards, up and down, or tilt the backrest. Many have memory buttons as well, so two different drivers can have preset seat adjustments. Just jump in, press your number, and the seat automatically resets itself to your preferred settings.
Heated seats are becoming more common, and they work by electricity running through a heating element that’s just below the seat cover. It’s basically the same as a heating pad that you use at home, but you don’t have to plug it in! Automakers are even working with cooling systems in seats for hot weather driving. Won’t it be nice when all of the different passengers in the same vehicle can control their own temperature by simply adjusting their seat controls?
You see more air bags on seats these days, and they are designed to protect passengers in a side impact collision. You never want to have anything over the top of these airbags, such as a strap going around the seat, because that will interfere with the air bag deploying in the event of a crash.
Head rests need to be adjusted so that they are just right. If they are too low, they can actually make things worse in a rear end collision, as your head would pivot over the top of the headrest. Slide it up or down to get it at just the right height. In some high end vehicles, the seat back and headrest automatically move forward to protect the driver in a rear end collision. This safety feature keeps the head and upper body more stable and supported, which greatly reduces the risk of serious injury.
You spend a lot of time in the seat of your vehicle, and obviously you want to be as comfortable as possible when you are driving. More luxurious vehicles will have seats with more padding, and sportier cars will have firmer seats that are a little less comfortable. Make sure that you check out the seat cushions before you buy your next vehicle, and your time spent commuting will be a lot more enjoyable.

Treasurer’s Reportpaula eastman presented a written
report including the current balance sheet, income statement, and transactions through June 30, 2013. Anyone wanting copies of these reports should contact paula at [email protected]. It was noted that payments for the new sign and picnic will be coming out in July.
Membership Reportstarr Herrington gave the following
report.• The 2014 membership drive will be “kicked-off ” at the picnic. starr will organize this event and get
volunteers.• Area Representatives are reminded to deliver the directories. Residents are looking for them.
• Next year, it was suggested HOHA contact the middle/high schools for students to deliver the directories as a community service project.
• A “privacy notice” will be printed in the next directory to keep outside users from using/publishing names and addresses.
• Residents will also be able to purchase 2013 luminary kits and make a donation to the 2014 fireworks display during the 2014 membership drive.
Nominating ReportThe following was reported.• There is a vacancy for an Area Representative in Area 2.
• Mary Norris has volunteers to be a representative in Area 15.

Parks ReportKen stevens submitted the following
written report.• Clean-up sessions need to be planned for the 144, 148, and 151 street
entrances/right-of-ways.• The City of Omaha (City) will be picking up the tree limbs along the 144 street right-of-way when they can.
• The City will grade the swale north of shirley street to improve drainage in the North park.
• Bob scott cut down dead pine trees next to shirley street to avoid fire hazards from the fireworks display.
• The City will improve water drainage of the spring behind 1873, 2129, and 2205 so. 152 street.
• The City will replace missing concrete grass pavers behind 2312 so. 151 street.
• The City will improve the drainage of water in the Middle park.
• The City will improve drainage at culvert under south east side walk.
• The City will be cleaning up the tree limbs blown down in the south park.
• There has been no activity on the replacement of the fence around the tennis courts.
• The City has repaired the chuck holes on Arbor street, but there are still plenty that need filling.

Citizen’s Patrol Update—A Message From The Omaha Police Department
There seems to be an increase in stolen vehicles in our precinct. Honda’s, SUV’s, and pick-ups seem to be popular. You may have read the recent article in the World Herald that the value of used vehicles has increased lately so that may explain the problem. Tell all of your neighbors to be aware of the problem and to take appropriate action to avoid being a victim. Another issue to be aware of is open garage doors and these two problems can go hand in hand. However, an open garage door can be more volatile since now the criminal is in the house so tell your neighbors to keep their garage door shut even when they are home or just in the back yard; bad things can happen in just a few minutes. Also if you see the following vehicle would you please call 911 and report it, it was involved in an incident in our precinct and was last seen in the 144th & Center Area. Locating the vehicle would be helpful. It’s a white 1999 Jeep 4-door, NE License Plate: RMR 977 and it has a broken window. Take no action other than calling 911. I hope many of you have made plans for your yearly Get-Together on National Night Out, August 2nd, but you can do it anytime. - Thank you, Jim Schulte, OPD, South West Precinct

Citizen Patrol Reportwendel Aanerud gave the following
report.• Incidents of car vandalism continue in the area. Residents were reminded not to keep anything of value in their cars if they are parked outside a garage.
• There were several incidents of mailbox vandalism in the area.
• wendel is planning on having a vehicle with Citizen patrol equipment parked at the picnic with flyers to educate the residents about the Citizen’s patrol and recruit new volunteers.
Social Committee Report• The Annual HOHA Family picnic will be saturday, August 24, 4:00-7:00 p.m. (note new time)
• The planning committee has met once to start the process.
• The committee was reminded to stay within their budget.
• Volunteers are needed to work the day of the event.
old BuSineSS:Drew Thompson was thanked for his
outstanding fireworks display on June 29. Approximately 1000 people attended. There were some issues with falling debris
and Drew will work on this problem for next year. Another suggestion was close shirley street and arrange for a port-a-potty near the fireworks location.
The welcome committee has distributed 29 new resident packets. A paper trail has been established to evaluate the results.
The Ball Field sign up has been automated and payments can be made through paypal. February 1 will start the spring reservation sign-up.
new BuSineSS:stacey Jolly commented on the stump
in the south park. It was suggested that Kevin write a letter to the City to remove/grind the stump so that it will not be a safety hazard for children sledding next winter. Kevin agreed to write the letter.

As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting is Thursday, August 8, 2013, 7:30 p.m. at Harvey Oaks Baptist Church.
Dates for the 2013 HOHA meetings are as follows. All meetings are the second Thursday of the month. september 12, October 10, November 14, and no December meeting.

Harvey Oaks Homeowners Association’s (HOHA) Board Meeting Thursday, July 14, 2011, 7:30 p.m.

Treasurer’s Report-Paula Eastman presented and reviewed copies of the current balance sheet, income statement, and transactions through June 30, 2011. Anyone wanting copies of these reports should contact Paula at [email protected].
Membership Report-Tony Hoefer submitted the following written report. The 2011 directories were delivered to all Area Director on June 27. Thanks to Starr Herrington for all her work getting the data together for the directory.
Tony Hoefer and Carol Feelhaver delivered directories to the three areas without directors.
Membership Drive Report-There are currently 455 members in HOHA for 2011. The membership drive for 2012 will run from the Annual Family Picnic -August 20- until November 1 Directories should be given to Area Directors for distribution by January 1 Stacy Jolley agreed to get volunteers to staff the welcome table from the Membership Drive committee. The HOHA by-laws states, any resident moving into Harvey Oaks during the period January 1-August 20, 2011, can come to the Family Picnic at no charge, even if they aren’t members of HOHA. This is part of the ―Welcome to the Neighborhood‖‖ efforts. Individuals that want to attend the picnic and are past the grace period will be charged $5.00 per person to attend the picnic. Membership in HOHA has increased by 43 households from last year.
Nominating Report-Jim Mooney presented a newsletter proposal developed by the Nominating committee. There hasn’t been a volunteer come forward to replace Tori Wallitsch as newsletter editor. Because of this fact, Jim proposed some other alternatives HOHA could explore. Also included in the proposal was the cost saving suggestion to research sending the newsletter electronically to all HOHA members starting in 2012. Currently, 45% of the e-mail addresses of HOHA members have been collected. Since the 2012 Membership drive will be ―kicked off‖ at the Family Picnic, Jim suggested this would be a great time to start securing e-mail addresses. These e-mail adresses will not be sold or published anywhere.
