There may be members of the Meadows family buried there. They had lived nearby and also worked on the farm as tenants. Only one of the gravestones stands prominent and has writing on it. That is the grave of Christian, who bought the farm from his uncle, William Turner Snidow, and brought his wife, Louisa Turner Snidow, to live in the farmhouse at the bottom of the hill. The other graves are marked with small field stones, and many can only be identified by the depressions in the ground. HORSESHOE CEMETERY James Price Farm, Pembroke, VA overlooking the old Horseshoe Farm and New River

[ See the Horseshoe Link on the Snidow website for pictures, chart and more info ]

Source: Don and Nancy Johnston, with the help of William Snidow, James Yarbrough, and Larry Snidow, in 2007 and 2008 put many hours into Horseshoe Cemetery. They dug up headstones and set them on a bed of marble chips to stablize the headstones. During the last week of May 2008, they began to piece together the broken stones and to glue them. They hauled the equipment to do this work all the way from Maryland! They did a scaled diagram showing the location of each grave (See our Horseshoe Link to print out the updated diagram). While digging up the headstone of Adeline Chapman Snidow, another tombstone was discovered buried about a foot deep on top of the grave. It appears to be an original stone for Mary Burk Snidow, wife of Colonel Christian Snidow. The inscription reads: Mary Snidow, Born 23 Dec. 1761, Died 3 May 1825.
