Facilities ofSNHU Recreation

The SNHU Fieldhouse is home to varsity athletic teams, but also acts as the main indoor playing surface for many intramural activities, including basketball, volleyball, and dodgeball. The Fieldhouse features bleacher seating for 2,000 as well as a fully functional scoreboard and audio/visual capabilities.

The SNHU Gymnasium, referred to by students as the “small gym” is the secondary location for several intramural activities. The small gym features a full sized-stage and rubberized floor, which is great for a variety of sports including indoor soccer, baseball, softball, and floor hockey.

Southern New Hampshire University displays some of the nicest facilities in the Northeast-10 Conference.

The racquetball court has unique features such as motion-censored lights and a glass end wall. The courts are available to anyone with a photo SNHU ID. and can be reserved every 30 minutes through the Equipment Room. The racquetball court also hosts a boot camp for the SNHU community.

The Penmen Room is adjacent to the Fitness Center and is home to the SNHU Hall of Fame. The Penmen Room serves as a meeting space for recreation staff training and intramural captains’ meetings. The Penmen Room overlooks the fieldhouse and is also the location of varsity post-game receptions for members of the Penmen Club.

The aerobic studio features a soft rubberized floor and is located on the bottom floor of the Athletic Complex. A wide-variety of group exercise classes are held here, with a capacity of 32 participants. The room features a full-length mirror, projection capabilities, speaker system with iPod connection, as well as a full fleet of yoga mats, weights and more.

The training room is located on the lower level westside of the SNHU Athletic Complex and is open for student-athletes for injury prevention and rehabilitation. The state of the art facility includes hot and cold treatment baths, taping stations, rehab benches, ultrasound technology, and muscle stimulation equipment. Minor injuries related to club sports and intramurals may be treated in the training room when avaliable.

Larkin Field is home to varsity teams such as soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse but it is also used for intramural sports including flag football and soccer. Larkin Field offers turf surface and bleachers seating for event viewing. The Field is also equipped with a state of the art press box used for filming and broadcasting.

The softball field located on the east-side of campus is home to the varsity softball team. It is also used for intramural softball and home run derby. The field includes a state-of-the-art press box, sound system and scoreboard. Field accommodations include large team dugouts, a batting tunnel, home and visiting bullpens, and ample parking and seating. A full lighting system allows for night intramural competition.

Located next to the softball field, the practice field is a natural grass space used for both varsity teams and intramural sports. It offers ample room for practices and activities like flag football and soccer. A full lighting system allows for night practice and intramural competitions.

The SNHU Athletic Complex features a 25-meter, six-lane pool. The pool is open most days for recreational use, and the SNHU Athletic Department offers multiple of water fitness class as well. Pool memberships are available for the general public and a variety of local schools and swim clubs use the pool as their home facility. The pool features starting blocks, lane lines, and is compliant with ADA standards for handicap access.

The SNHU Fitness Center offers a wide range of open recreation hours serving the students, faculty, and staff throughout the school year. The 5,500 square-foot facility is run by student employees who possess a strong interest in the field of fitness and recreation. The Fitness Center features many different kinds of cardiovascular and strength-building machines. The Fitness Center has ten high definition flat screen televisions bordering the cardio deck. The Treadwall is a rotation based rock climbing system in which strength and endurance are tested by varying speeds and resistance. In addition, personal training sessions and fitness orientations are available for all SNHU students, faculty, and staff.

Located near the racquetball court in the east end of the SNHU Athletic Complex, the small fitness center complements the larger Fitness Center. A selection of cardio and strength equipment is available for use by members of the SNHU community during Athletic Complex open hours.

+ Pool Policies

SNHU Aquatic Programs are held in a 250,000 gallon 25 - meter pool. It is open for the SNHU community and Manchester community (with the purchase of a pool pass). It is currently used for water aerobics, open recreation, lap swim and other related swim activities.

Additionally, the pool can be rented out for birthday parties, swim meets, and group training sessions. The pool is always staffed with a lifeguard on duty during its general hours of operation.

Equipment avaliable for use in the SNHU pool:

• Kick boards• Flotation device• Water basketball• Water weights

• All patrons shall be required to take a cleansing shower before entering the SNHU pool.

• Persons having or reasonably suspected to have any considerable area of exposed subepidermal tissue, cuts, open sore, blisters, bandaged wounds, medical covering, fever, inflammation of the eyes, nasal or ear discharges, shall not be allowed to enter the SNHU pool.

• Spitting, urinating, blowing of the nose, spouting of water or any discharge of any bodily fluids in the pool water is strictly prohibited.

• No person shall bring or throw into the water of a public bathing place, or its floors, walkways, aisles, or dressing rooms, any object that may in any way carry contamination or otherwise endanger the safety of any pool patron.

• Food, bottles, crockery, glass containers, or other hazardous objects shall not be permitted in the water, on the deck, or in the locker rooms associated with the SNHU pool.

• Patrons shall not run or engage in boisterous rough play in the SNHU pool.

• Any person suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs shall not be prohibited from entering the pool

• The pool shall not be operated during severe weather conditions, i.e electrical storms, tornadoes, etc.

SNHUGroup ExerciseSNHU Group Exercise program offers a wide variety of fitness programs to meet the ever changing needs of the SNHU community. Progams

are open to everyone of all fitness levels.

PilatesLearn the basic principles of Pilates: stretching, strengthening and lengthening of your muscles. Emphasis is placed on proper body alignment and form to improve stabilization, coordination, flexibility and strength.

ZumbaThis dance style aerobics class combines Latin-inspired rhythms along with pop music to create a fun and energizing workout for all fitness levels. The cardio based dance movements are easy to follow It is also a non- intimidating environment for the non- dancer, so ditch the workout and come join the party!

YogaThis class accommodates both the beginning yoga participant as well as the more experienced individual. Participants are introduced to a variety of postures and breathing techniques as they learn the basics of a safe and effective yoga workout.

Body BlastThis class will define and strengthen your body. This workout is designed to distinguish your muscles, build endurance, and give you the results you desire.

Stretch & AbsThis class focuses on overall flexibility and proper stretching techniques while incorporating traditional abdominal exercises.

Cardio DanceCardio Dance is a class that focuses on full body conditioning not only for dancers, but for anyone looking to strengthen and tone up! This workout incorporates some intense cardio and will include routines that focus on whipping arms, abs, legs, and glutes into shape, resulting in a tightened and toned dancer physique. This class is set to upbeat and highly motivating music and will leave you feeling toned all over.

Strength & CoreStrength & Core is a full body workout that targets all of the major muscles groups.

You’ll integrate strength and stretching exercises to produce stronger bones and muscles and increase your metabolism to help maintain a healthy body weight.

Kick & CoreThis class offers traditional kickboxing moves combined with core strengthening abdominal exercises.

Boot CampLooking to take your cardio and strength to the next level? Circuit training drills drive your cardio endurance up while keeping your muscles loaded for strength training. This class combines simple athletic drills in a unique and novel group fitness environment that will motivate you to finish hard and strong.

Water AerobicsThe water will provide you great resistance and add an extra challenge to your cardiovascular workout. Water bands, gloves, and weights are also used to add more resistance to the workout. This class is appropriate for all ages.

Where is the Athletic Complex located?We are on the left as you enter through campus’ main entrance. The building is directly across from Larkin Field.

How much do group exercise classes, intramurals, and use of the facilities cost to students?

All programs are FREE to the student body with a valid SNHU photo ID. Personal training comes with an additional cost. Please refer to pages 9-10 for that information.

Where can I sign up for intramurals?Please visit snhupenmen.com/recsports to sign up. There is a tab called “Team Roster Form” this is used to submit team or individual participation for any leagues/individual challenges.

Can I use the pool?Absolutely! Just present your valid SNHU photo ID to the lifeguard on duty and enjoy your swim.

Is everyone eligible to participate in club sports?

All current full-time students are eligible; however you must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA to be on any club sports roster.

How do I make suggestions for programs I’d like to see on campus?

We are always looking to design our programs to meet the needs of the student body. Please contact one of the recreation team members with suggestions. We will work with you to make it happen! Our contact information is found on the inside cover page. Make a suggestion and you might get a prize!

Can I bring a guest into the facility?Guests may use the pool with the purchase of a pool pass. SNHU students and fulltime staff may bring one guest into the facility with their SNHU photo ID.

How do I know the hours of the facility?The complex hours are updated every month to reflect the changes in availability. You can go to snhupenmen.com/recreationcomplexschedule.pdf to view the current month. There are also various locations in the Athletic Complex that have printed out copies for you to take.

It’s summer, but I live in the area; can I still use the facility?

Yes! If you are currently an enrolled student for the fall semester you may use the facility. The fitness center hours differ when classes are not in session, but we are open year round!
