    SnapView Software

SnapView SoftwareSnapView Copy software consists of

SnapView driver SnapView user interface (UI) SnapView command line interface (CLI) admsnap utility CLARiiON VSS provider

SnapView Driver For a CX300, CX400, CX500, CX600, or CX700 storage system to usethe SnapView software, the SnapView driver must be enabled on thestorage system. The driver is enabled when the SnapView Enabler, which is part of the SnapView kit, is installed on the storage system. If you ordered SnapView with a new CX300, CX400, CX500, CX600,or CX700 storage system, the SnapView Enabler can be installed

    during storage-system initialization.

Once the driver is enabled, it stays enabled even if you upgrade the FLAREOperating Environment software on the storage system.

SnapView UI The SnapView UI requires the Management UI, which is part ofNavisphereManager. For you to use these UIs, they must be

enabled on the storage system at which you will point your browser.Prior to shipment, both UIs are enabled on CX300, CX500, and CX700storage systems, but they are notenabled on CX400 and CX600storage systems. Both UIs are enabled on a CX400 or CX600 storagesystem when the Manager Enabler, which is part of the Manager kit,is installed on the storage system. If you ordered Manager with a newCX400 or CX600 storage system, the Manager UI can be installedduring storage-system initialization.

Once the UIs are enabled, they stay enabled even if you upgrade theFLARE Operating Environment software on the storage system.

SnapView CLI SnapView CLI is part of the Navisphere CLI, which ships with theNavisphere Host Agent kits.

admsnap Utility Theadmsnaputility is a server-based executable program thatprovides a command line interface. Theadmsnap commands let youmanage clone and snapshot devices on the server. You must installadmsnap on each server from which you want to issue admsnapcommands.

    CLARiiON VSSProvider

The CLARiiON VSS Provider allows an application to accessSnapView functionality on CLARiiONstorage systems by using the

VSS framework and other APIs introduced in Microsoft WindowsServer 2003 APIs.

    SnapView Installation

SnapView InstallationIMPORTANT- When you install new software on a storage system,do not remove or reboot an SP while installation is in progress. Doingso may leave the storage system in a transient state where it cannot berestarted. Wait for the entire upgrade process to complete andautomatically reboot the SPs.

Important: Snapshot sessions running in persistence mode will continuerunning during a non-disruptive upgrade (NDU).

    Installation Prerequisites

Two or more servers, each attached to each storage system thatwill run SnapView.

EMC Navisphere Manager enabled on the SPs in at least onestorage system in each Navisphere domain. (For information onNavisphere domains, see the EMC Navisphere Security

    Administrators Guideon the documentation CD.)

Prior to shipment, Manager is enabled on CX300, CX500, and CX700storage systems, but is not enabled on CX200, CX400, and CX600 storagesystems. Manager is enabled on CX200, CX400, and CX600 systems when

the Manager Enabler is installed. The Manager Enabler can be installedon CX400 and CX600 storage systems at the same time as the SnapViewEnabler. Once Manager is enabled, it stays enabled, even if you upgradethe FLARE Operating Environment on the storage system

Access Logixsoftware enabled on the storage systems that runSnapView.

Prior to shipment, Access Logix is enabled on CX500 and CX700 storagesystems, but is notenabled, on CX400 and CX600 storage systems. AccessLogix is enabled on CX400 and CX600 storage systems when the AccessLogix Enabler is installed. The Access Logix Enabler can be installed atthe same time as other Enablers. Once Access Logix is enabled, it staysenabled even if you upgrade the FLARE Operating Environment on thestorage system.

    Admsnap Installation

To Install admsnap on an AIX RS/6000 SP Server

Before you can install admsnap, you need to determine whether aprevious version of the software is already installed on the serverand, if so, remove it.

To Discover and Remove a Previous admsnap Version

    1. On the AIX server, log in as superuser (root).

    2. Open an Xterm window and enter the following command to listcurrently installed admsnap software:

    lslpp -L admsnap*

    3. Examine the list to determine if any previous revision of admsnapis present. If a previous revision of the software is present, remove it as described next.

    4. Uninstall existing admsnap software on specified nodes.

    dsh installp -u admsnap

    CAUTION

When performing the next procedure you must be in the controlworkstation window, and notin a node or other window.

    Preparing to Install admsnap

If all nodes on the SP partition will nothave admsnap softwareinstalled, then you must create a Working Collective environmentvariable specific to the nodes that will have the software installed. The format of the Working Collective file is the reliable hostname ofthe SP nodes on which to install the software, one name per line inthe file.

To Create the Working Collective Environment Variable

    1. Save the current Working Collective environment variableinformation so that when the installation is complete, you canrestore the variable. Enter

    echo $WCOLL/etc/wcoll

wcollis in the/etcdirectory. WCOLLis only valid per partition.

    Admsnap Installation

    2. Using a text editor, create a file for the Working Collective. Usethe pathname/tmp/EMChosts. In the file, insert the hostnames ofthe nodes in the SP partition that will have admsnap installed.Note the following example:

    cws_sp_node1cws_sp_node3cws_sp_node5cws_sp_node9

    3. Export the Working Collective (WCOLL) environment variableusing the following command:

    export WCOLL=/tmp/EMChosts

    4. To verify that the correct node has been exported to the OS, usethe following command:

    dsh date

    The correct node should respond.

To Install admsnap Software on Specified Nodes

Follow these steps to install admsnapsoftware using the installpcommand. This procedure installs the software on specified SP nodesall at once from the control workstation.

Using SMIT requires you to install admsnap on each SP node individually,

and is not recommended for installation.

    1. On the control workstation, change directories as follows:

    cd /spdata/sys1/install/pssplpp/PSSP-3.1.1

    2. Create the subdirectory admsnap, using the following command:

    mkdir admsnap

    3. Enter the following command at the AIX shell prompt:

    crfs -v cdrfs -p ro -d cd0 -m /cd_tmp

    4. Insert theadmsnap CD-ROM in the control workstationsCD-ROM drive.
