Be surethe cuttingattachmentshieldis properlyattached,and inthe positionrecommendedby the manufacturer.Use onlyflexible, non-metallicline recommendedby the manufacturer.Neveruse,for example,wire orwire-ropewhichcan breakoff andbecomea dangerousprojectile.

KEEP BYSTANDERS AWAY

WARNING: Keep all bystanders,especially children and pets, atleast 50 feet (15m) from theoperating area,

WARNING: Do not operate withoutthe cutting attachment shield in

place. Keep away from the rotatingcutting attachment.

Pour fuel outdoors where there are no sparks and flames.

Slowly remove the fuel cap only after stopping the engine. Donot smoke while fueling. Wipe spilled fuel from the unit. Moveat least 10 ft. (3 m) away from the fueling source and sitebefore starting engine.

Clear the area to be cut before each use. Remove all objectssuch as rocks, broken glass, nails, wire, or string which canbe thrown or become entangled in the cutting attachment.Clear the area of children, bystanders and pets. At aminimum, keep all children, bystanders and pets outside a50 ft. (15 m) radius; outside the 50 ft. zone, there is still a risk

of injury to bystanders from being struck with the movingstrings in the event of a cutting lines thrust or otherunexpected reaction of the saw.

The cutting attachment may be spinning during carburetoradjustments. Wear your protective equipment and observe allsafety instructions. When the unit is turned off make sure thecutting attachment has stopped before the unit is set down.

• The handles and shield must be mounted according to theinstructions. The unit is designed to be used while positionedon the right side.

• INSTALLING CUTTING HEAD

• Lock gear box by inserting a pin thru hole and findingcorresponding notch.

• To install head, turn counterclockwise. Hand-tighten headsecurely.

• To remove head, turn clockwise.

INSTALLING DEBRIS GUARD

The top clamp is fixed to the tube in the proper position.Attach the debris shield to the clamp with the two screwsand hardware provided. Tighten the attaching screws firmly.

INSTALL ASSIST HANDLE

Use the 3 screws provided for this assembly, Mount theback edge of the handle clamp to match the arrow on thetube. Adjust the handle for comfort and good balance.Check that the cutting line of the unit is away from your feetand legs.

• SHOULDER HARNESS• Place the strapoveryourleft shoulderand attachclipto

clampeyeon shafttube.• Loosenclampscrewandslide clampupor down untilunit

balanceswithheadjusttouchingthe ground.• Tightenscrew.

HOLDING THE TRIMMER

I_ I WARNING: Always wear eye, hearing, foot and bodyrprotection to reduce the risk of injury when operatingthis unit.

Before operating the unit, stand in the operating position(Fig. 1). Check for the following:• The operator is wearing eye protection and proper clothing.• With a slightly-bent right arm, the operator's hand is holding

the shaft grip.

• The operator's left arm is straight, the left hand holdingthe D-handle.

• The unit is at waist level.

• The cutting attachment is parallel to the ground and easilycontacts the grass without the need to bend over.

ADJUSTING TRIMMING LINE LENGTHThe bump head cutting attachment allows you to releasetrimmingline withoutstoppingthe engine.To releasemoreline,lightlytap the cuttingattachmenton the ground(Fig.2) whileoperatingthe trimmerat highspeed.

NOTE: Always keep the trimmingline fully extended. Linerelease becomesmoredifficultwhen the cuttinglinegets shorter.

Eachtime the head is bumped, about 1 in. (25.4 ram) oftrimming line releases. A blade in the cutting attachment shieldwill cut the line to the proper length if any excess lineis released.

r For best results, tap the bump knob on bare ground or hard soil.If you attempt a line release in tall grass, the engine may stall.Always keep the trimming line fully extended. Line releasebecomes more difficult when the cutting line gets shorter.

NOTE: Do not restthe bump head on the ground while the unitis running.

Some line breakage will occur from:• Entanglement with foreign matter.• Normal line fatigue.• Attempting to cut thick, stalky weeds.• Forcing the line into objects such as walls or fence posts.

CAUTION: Do not remove or alter the line cutting bladeassembly.Excessivelinelengthwill overloadthe engineandcouldcause damage to the engne.

TIPS FOR BESTTRIMMING RESULTS

• Keep the cutting attachment parallel to the ground.• Do not force the cutting attachment. Allow the tip of theline to do the cutting, especially along walls. Cutting withmore than the tip will reduce cutting efficiency and mayoverload the engl ne.• Cut grass over 8 in. (200 mm) by working from top to bottom

in small increments to avoid premature line wear orengine drag.

• Cut from right to left whenever possible. Cutting to the leftimproves the unit's cutting efficiency. Clippings are thrownaway from the operator.

• Slowly move the trimmer into and out of the cutting area atthe desired height. Move either in a forward-backward orside-to-side motion. Cutting shorter lengths produces thebest results.

• Trim only when grass and weeds are dry.• The life of your cutting line is dependent upon:

• Following the trimming techniques.• What vegetation is being cut.• Where vegetation is cut.

For example, the line will wear faster when trimming againstfoundation wall as opposed to trimming around a tree.

DECORATIVETRIMMINGDecorative trimming is accomplished by removing all vegetationaroundtrees, posts,fences and more.Rotatethe wholeunitso that the cuttingattachmentis at 30°angleto the ground(Fig.3),

LINE REPLACEMENT

SAFETY RULES1. Shutdown the trimmerto makecertainthe headcannot

is loose.3. Inspecthead for wear,chipsor cracks.Replace partsor

entirehead if needed.4. Alwaysuse line that is the correctdiameterandtype for this

unit.Donot use metal reinforcedor metalline.5. Make surethe two retainingpawlsspread outto the

peripheryof the coverwindows.6. Checkthe head for deflectionor abnormalnoiseby rotating

the headby hand.Deflectionor abnormalnoisemaycausevibrations,whichwill cause the cuttinglineto weldtooether.It is also potentiallydangerous.

REFILLING TRIMMING LINE

1. Forreplacementline, use a diameter of .095 in. (2.4 mm).The spool is capablefor a line upto 20 ft. (6 m) on the 4 in.head.Avoidusinga largerlineas it maycut downthetrimmingperformance.

2. Pinchthe slottedarea onthe bothsidesof the spoolhousingto unhookthe bottomcap.

3. Take outthe spooland pulloff the old line. Put one endofnewline throughthe spoolholesand pull it untilthe lengthis equal betweeneach part of the line.

4. Windupthe line inthe correctdirectionas indicatedonthespool.

5. Hook each endof the line inthe sloton the edgeof thespool,and thenputthe ends throughthe eyeletsonthehousing.Make surethat the springand the washersare inplace.

6. Whileholdingthe spool against the housing,pull the lineends to releasethemfrom the slot.

7. Line upthe sloton the bottomcap withthe hookon thehousing,pressthe cap againstthe housinguntilit clicks.

• Allow engine to cool, and secure the unit before storingor transporting.

• Store unit and fuel in a well ventilated area where fuel vaporscannot reach sparks or open flames form water heaters,electric motors or switches, furnaces, etc.

• Store unit with all guards in place. Position unit so that anysharp objects cannot accidentally cause injury.

• Store unit and fuel well out of the reach of children.

SEASONAL STORAGEPrepare unit for storageat end of seasonor if it will notbe usedfor 30 days or more. If yourunit is to be storedfor a periodof time:• Drainall fuel from the fuel tank intothe properreceptacles

for storage.• Press purgebulb15 timesto removeall fuel from carburetor

and fuel lines.Drainthis fuel intoproperreceptacles.If fuel isto be disposed,please referto local rulesfor properdisposal.

• Clean the entire unit beforelengthystorage.• Store ina clean dry area.• Lightlyoil externalmetal surfaces.• This trimmermay be stored ina varietyof positions.If

possible,it is preferredto storethe trimmerina horizontalpositionwiththe spark plugup.The trimmershouldnotbestoredor transportedwiththe spark plugdown.

• Storingortransportingthe trimmerwiththe sparkplugdownmay resultinwhitesmoke comingfrom the mufflerordifficulty starting.

ENGINE

• Removesparkplug and pour 1 teaspoonof HD30 wt. engineoil throughthe sparkplugopening.Slowlypullthe starterrope8 to 10 timesto distributeoil.

• Replacesparkplugwithnew oneof recommendedtype andheat range.

• Clean air filter.• Checkentire unitfor loosescrews,nuts,and bolts.Replace

any damaged,broken,orworn parts.• At the beginningof the nextseason, use onlyfresh fuel.

OTHER• Do not storegasoline from one seasonto another.• Replaceyourgasolinecan if it startsto rust.• When removingthe unitfrom storage,only use fresh gasoline.

Performthe routineoperationchecksas spelledout inthemanualbeforeany start.

FUEL SYSTEM

Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alternative in minimizing theformation of fuel gum deposits during storage. Add stabilizer tothe gasoline in the fuel tank or fuel storage container, Follow themix instructions found on stabilizer container. Run engine atleast 5 minutes after adding stabilizer.

SNAPPERhereby warrants to the original retail purchaser ALL NEW products of its own manufacture to be free from defect inmaterial and workmanship, for a period of two (2) years form the date of the original purchase, subject to the following exceptions,

Under nocircumstances, within or without the warranty period, will the company be liable for damage for loss, or damageresulting from delay, or any consequential damage including but not limited to any cost or expense of providingsubstitute equipment or service during periods of malfunction or non-use. Snapper will repair or replace, free ofcharge any part or parts of the units found upon examination by any Factory Authorized Dealer or by the factoryto be defective in materials and or workmanship for the term of the warranty.

The consumer is responsible for: (1) normal maintenance such as greasing, gear case lubrication, minoradjustment and (2) transportation of any Snapper product to and from the place warranty work is performed.

Snapper warranty WILL NOT APPLY to any products repaired or altered by anyone other than an AuthorizedService Distributor or Authorized Service Dealer.

Snapper reserves the right to incorporate any changes in design into its products without obligation to makechanges on units previously manufactured.

• Adopte una posici6n firme y balanceada. No se exceda. Mantenga eladitamento de corte por debajo del nivel de la cintura. Mantenga todaslas partes de su cuerpo a distancia del aditamento de corte y de lassuperficies calientes.

• Nunca le de arranqueala unidadnila opereen un lugar encerradonidentrode un edificio;respirarlosgasesde escapepuedeocasionarlamuerte.

• Vierta el combustibleen exteriores donde no haya presencia dechispasni llamas.Remuevalentamentela tapa de combustiblesolodespu6sde haberdetenidoel motor.No fume mientras aprovisionacon combustible.Limpieel combustiblederramadode la unidad.Apdrtese por Io menos 10 pies (3 m) del sitioy la fuentedondese aprovision6con combustibleantesde darlearranqueal motor.

• Despeje el drea que va a ser cortada antes usar la unidad, Remuevatodos los objetos tales como rocas, cristal roto, clavos, alambres, ocuerdas los cuales puedan alcanzar a ser lanzados o enredarse enel aditamento de corte. Despeje el drea de niSos, personas que seencuentren cerca y an|males dom_sticos. INSTALACI6N DE LA AGARRADERA DE AYUDAUse los 3 tornillos que vienen pars este conjunto. Instsle el b0rdetrssero del sujetador de Is sgarradera pars que se scople con Isflecha en el tubo, Ajuste Is agarrsdera pars confortabUidad y buenequilibrio. Compruebe que el nylon de corte de Is unidad est_ adistancia de sus piernas y pies.

INSTALACI(_N DEL PROTECTOR DE DESECHOS

COMO SOSTENER LA GUADANA

Ipies y el cuerpo para reducir el riesgo de lesiones mientrasopera esta unidad.

Antes de operar la unidad, adopte una postura para la operaci6n(Fig. 1). Verifique Io siguiente:• Que el operador est6 protegidndose los ojos y que est_ usando la

ropa adecuada.• Que con el brazo derecho ligeramente doblado, la mano del operador

est_ sosteniendo la agarradera del eje.• Que el brazo izquierdo del operador est_ derecho sosteniendo la

manija en D.• Que la unidad est_ al nivel de la cintura.

• Que el aditamento de corte est_ paralelo con la tierra y que toquef_cilmente la grama sin la necesidad de inclinarse.

AJUSTE DE LA LONGITUD DEL NYLON DE CORTE

El aditamento de corte con cabezal de tope le permite aflojar el nylon

de corte sin detener el motor. Para desatar mds nylon, golpee ligera-mente el aditarnento de corte en la tierra (Fig. 2) mientras opera laguada_a a alta velocidad.

NOTA: Mantenga siempre el nylon de corte completamente extendido.Desatar el nylon se hace mds dificil cuando el nylon de corte sevuelve mds corto.

Cada vez que el cabezal es golpeado, se desata aproximadamente1 pulgada (25.4 mm) deL nylon de corte. Una cuchilla en el protectordel aditamento de corte cortara, el nylon a la Iongitud apropiada encaso de que se desate un exceso de nylon.

Para mejores resultados, golpee ligeramente la _)erilla de tope en latierra pelada o en el suelo firme. Si usted intenta un aflojamiento denylon en grama alta, el motor podrl'a ahogarse. Mantenga siempre elnylon de corte completamente extendido. Desatar el nylon se hace mdsdificil cuando el nylon de corte se vuelve mas corto.

NOTA: No descanse el cabezal de tope en la tierra mientras que est_operando la unidad.

El nylon se reventard por:• Enredarse con algen material extraSo.• Desgaste normal del nylon.• Intentar cortar malezas gruesas y de mucho tallo.• Forzar el nylon en objetos tales como muros o estacones de cercas.

CONSEJOS PARA MEJORES RESULTADOS DE CORTE

• Mantenga el aditamento de corte paralelo a la tierra.• No fuerce el aditamento de corte. Deje que la punta del nylon haga

el corte, especialmente a Io largo de muros. AI cortar con mds de lapunta se reducird la eficiencia de corte y se podrfa recargar el motor.

• Corte la grama a 8 pulgadas (200 ram) trabajando desde la partesuperior hasta la inferior en pequeSos incrementos para evitar undesgaste prematUro del nylon o que se arrastre el motor.

• Corte de derecha a izquierda siempre que sea posible. Cortar haciala izquierda mejora la eficiencia de corte de la unidad. Los recortesson lanzados a distancia del operador.

• Mueva lentamente la guadaSa hacia adentro y hacia fuera del Areade corte a la altura deseada. Mu_vala ya sea hacia adelante o haciaa atrds o haga un movimiento de lado a lado. AI cortar longitudesrods cortas se producen mejores resultados.

• Corte t_nicamente cuando la grama y las malezas est_n secas.• La vida de su nylon de corte depende de:

• Seguir las t_cnicas de corte.• Del tipo de vegetaci6n que se est& cortando.• De d6nde se est6 cortando la vegetaci6n.

Por ejemplo, el nylon se desgastard mds rdpido cuando se corta contraun muro de fundaci6n en comparaci6n con cortar alrededor de un drbol.

CORTE DECORATIVOEl corte decorativo se realiza removiendotoda la vegetaci6nalrededorde &rboles, estacones,cercasy rods.'Gire la unidadcompletade forma que el aditamentode corte quede aun dngulo de 30° con la tierra (Fig.3).

REAPROVISIONAMIENTO DEL NYLON DE CORTE

1. Para cambiar el nylon, use un di&metro de .095 pulgadas (2.4 mm).El carrete puede con un nylon de hasta 20 pies (6 m) en el cabezalde 4 pulgadas. Evite usar un nylon m&s grande ya que este podrfaacortar el desempefio de la guadafia.

2. Comprima el _trea ranurada en ambos lados del carrete paradesenganchar la tapa inferior.

3. Aparte el carrete y hale el nylon usado. Inserte un extremo delnylon nuevo a trav6s de los orificios del carrete y h_.lelo hasta quela Iongitud sea igual entre cada parte del nylon.

4. Enrolle el nylon en la direcci6n correcta como se indica en elcarrete.

5. Enlace cada extremo del nylon en la ranura en el borde delcarrete, y despu_s coloque los extremos a traves de las gufas enla cubierta. AsegL_rese que el resorte y las arandelas est_n en sulugar.

6. Mientras sostiene el carrete contra la cubierta, hale los extremosdel nylon para liberarlos de la ranura.

7. Alinee la ranura en la tapa inferior con el gancho en la cubierta,presione la tapa contra la cubierta hasta que chasquee.

MONTAGE DE LA POIGNI_E DE SUPPORTUtilisez les 3 vis fournies & cet effet. Placez le bord arri_re de lapoign_e sur la fl_che du tube. Reglez le confort et I'_quilibre de lapoignde. Verifiez que la t_te de coupe est 8 i'oppos_ de vos piedset de vos jambes.

• Desserrez la vis de la bride et faites glisser la bride sur ie tube,jusqu'& ce que I'appareil soit equilibr_, la t_te effleurant le sol.

• Serrez la vis.

PRISE EN MAIN DU TAILLE-BORDURES

toujours des protections pour les yeux, les oreilles, les piedset le corps afin de r_duire le risque de blessure.

Avant de faire fonctionner I'appareil, mettez-vous en position de travail.(Fig. 1). Verifiez ce qui suit :• L'op_rateur porte les protections pour les yeux et les v8tements qui

conviennent.

• Le bras droit est leg_rement pli_ et tient la poign_e du manche.• Le bras gauche est tendu et la main gauche tient la poign_e en D.• L'appareil est au niveau de la taille.• L'accessoire de coupe est parall_le au sol et atteint I'herbe facilement

sans qu'il soit n_cessaire de se pencher.

REGLAGE DE LA LONGUEUR DU FIL DE COUPE

La t_te & frapper de I'accessoire de coupe permet de rallonger le filde coupe sans avoir & arr_ter le moteur. Pour rallonger le fil de coupe,frappez I_g_rement I'accessoire de coupe contre le sol (Fig. 2) tout enfaisant fonctionner le taille-bordure & fond.

REMARQUE : Le fil de coupe doit toujours avoir la Iongueur maximale.II est plus difficile de faire sortir le fil quand il devient pluscourt.

Chaque fois que I'on frappe la t_te contre le sol, environ 25 mm de fil decoupe sortent. Une lame incorpor_e & la protection de I'accessoire decoupe sectionne le fil & la bonne Iongueur si la Iongueur totale est tropimportante.

Pour une utilisation optimale, cognez le bouton de la t_te sur un sol durou nu. Si vous essayez de sortir le fil dans une herbe haute, le moteurrisque de caler. Le fil doit toujours _tre le plus long possible. II est plusdifficile de faire sortir du fil quand ce dernier est trop court.

REMARQUE : Ne posez pas la t6te & frapper contre le sol pendant lefonctionnement de I'appareil.

Le fil peut se casser dans les cas suivants :• Accrochage de corps _trangers.• Usure normale du fil.

• Tentative de coupe de mauvaises herbes & tiges 6paisses.• Utilisation forcee du fil contre certains objets tels que murs ou

poteaux.

I_, I ATTENTION : ne retirez pas la lame de coupe du fil. Une

Itrop grande Iongueur de fil surcharge le moteur et peutI'endommager.

CONSEILS POUR UNE MEILLEURE COUPE

• Maintenez I'accessoire de coupe parallele au sol.• Ne forcez pas I'accessoire de coupe. Laissez I'extr_mit_ du fil faire le

travail, en particulier le long des murs. I'utilisation d'une plus grandeIongueur de fil reduit I'efficacit_ et peut surcharger le moteur.

• Coupez I'herbe de plus de 200 mm en descendant progressivementpour _viter une usure pr_matur_e ou que le moteur ne cale.

• Coupez, dans la mesure du possible, de droite & gauche, car celaam_liore I'efficacit_ de la coupe. Les herbes couples sont rejet_es& I'oppose de I'op_rateur.

• Entrez et sortez lentement de la zone & coupe & la hauteur voulue.D_placez-vous d'avant en arri_re ou lat_ralement. Une coupe parpetites hauteurs donne de meilleurs r_sultats.

• N'utilisez I'appareil que Iorsque I'herbe et les mauvaises herbes sonts_ches.

• La dur6e de vie de votre fil de coupe depend des 61ements suivants :• Respect des techniques de coupe.• Type de v_g_tation couple.• Lieu d'utilisation de !'appareil.

Par exemple, le fil s'use plus vite quand on coupe le long d'un mur defondation qu'autour d'un arbre.

COUPE DECORATIVE

On appelle coupe d_corative le retrait de toute la vegetation autour desarbres, des poteaux, des cl6tures ou autres.

Basculez rappareil pour que I'accessoire de coupe fasse un angle de30 ° par rapport au sol (Fig. 3).

REMPLACEMENT DU FIL

Rf:GLES DE SECURITE

1. Arr_tez le taille-bordures pour _tre s0r que la t_te ne risque pasde tourner en cours d'intervention.

2. Verifiez le montage de la t_te de coupe et, en presence de jeu,serrez-la.

3. Inspectez la t_te pour voir s'il y a du jeu, si elle est 6br_ch_e oucass6e. Remplacez les pieces ou toute la t_te le cas _cheant.Utilisez un fil du diam_tre et du type correspondant & cet appareil.N'utilisez pas de fil m_tallique ou renforc_ m6tal.

5. Assurez-vous que les deux cliquets de retenue sont places & lap6riph_rie des fen6tres du couvercle.

6. Verifiez que la t_te n'est pas tordue et qu'elle ne produit aucun sonanormal en la faisant tourner & la main. Une d_flexion ou un bruitanormal peut _tre la cause de vibrations qui entrafneront lesoudage du fil de coupe sur lui-m6me. Cela risque aussi d'etredangereux.

REMPLACEMENT DU FIL DE COUPE

1. Le fil de rechange doit avoir un diam_tre de 2,4 mm. La bobinecontient 6 m dans la t_te de 10 cm. N'utilisez pas un fil plus longcar cela peut rdduire les performances de coupe.

2. Pincez les deux c6t_s de la bobine, au niveau des fentes, pourd_crocher le couvercle du fond.

3. Retirez la bobine et d_roulez le reste de I'ancien ill. Mettez uneextr_mit_ du nouveau fil dans les trous de la bobine et tirez-le

jusqu'& ce que sa Iongueur soit la m_me des deux c6t_s.4. Enroulez le fil dans le sens indiqu_ sur la bobine.5. Accrochez chaque extr6mit_ du fil au bord de la bobine et passez

les extremit_s dans les oeilletons du boftier, Assurez-vous que leressort et les rondelles sont en place.

6. Tout en maintenant la bobine contre le boftier, tirez les extremitesdu fil pour les faire sortir de la fente,

7. Alignez la fente du couvercle interieur et le crochet du boftier,appuyez le couvercle contre le boftier jusqu'& ce qu'il s'encliquette.
