Celebrating Our Volunteer Community
Community is at the very heart of why The Bushnell exists.
The sense of reaching out and serving is at
the core of our founding mission. I’m still hearing
from so many of our patrons about last month’s production of Come From Away — the spirit of that show seemed to deeply resonate with everyone who saw it, and I hope inspired us to be more welcoming friends and neighbors. This month’s production of Waitress also highlights, in a different way, that sense of community in a small-knit town. It’s a delightful way to close our 2018-2019 Broadway Series.
The community of volunteers at The Bushnell is essential to our successful operation as a leading performing arts center. For over a quarter century, these local men and women have distinguished themselves with their hard work and dedication to the arts community of Hartford. While we appreciate our volunteers all year, June marks The Bushnell’s official volunteer celebration event, where we honor two of our most outstanding volunteers — one veteran and one rookie (well, two this year).
Our 2019 Volunteer of the Year is Joe Marina of Wethersfield, CT. Joe has been a Bushnell Volunteer since September 2014. Joe mentors new volunteers, is a tour guide, and is a
former member of the Volunteer Advisory Committee which acts as a leadership team and liaison between our volunteers and our Front of House staff.
The 2019 Rookie of the Year award goes to a duo — Joe and Renata Lantos of Portland, CT. Aside from their Bushnell work, the couple is very active in their community; Joe is newly retired and also volunteers at his town’s recreation department and Renata is on the board at the Middlesex YMCA. Congratulations and thank you to both Joes and Renata!
This past year, nearly 600 people have generously volunteered over 30,000 hours of service. During your visit tonight one of our volunteers likely helped you to your seat and handed you this Prompter. Volunteers work as ticket scanners, tour guides, assist in our offices, and much more. Volunteers are an integral part of life at The Bushnell and work hard to help us create a vibrant and welcoming community. Thanks to them all.
Sincerely,
David R. Fay

Disruptive Behavior Any patron who poses a health or sanitary risk; disturbs other patrons; causes damage to The Bushnell property; or does not cooperate with staff and security personnel will be asked to leave the venue.
Electronic Devices Cellular phones, pagers and other electronic devices should be silenced prior to entering the theater. Text messaging and the use of other devices that cause unnecessary light are prohibited in the theater.
Late Arrival Late seating will be at the discretion of the production company, and requires that late audience members wait to enter the theater until a designated break in the performance. For your convenience, closed circuit televisions are located in the lobbies.
End of Performance For your safety and the safety of your fellow patrons, please do not leave your seat until the house lights have been turned on. Not only is it dark, but it is inconsiderate to others, including the performers.

To ensure optimum enjoyment for all patrons, we recommend that children under 5 only attend shows in the Robinson & Cole Family Series and The Bushnell Children’s Theatre. The Bushnell staff reserves the right to ask any parents/guardians whose children cause disruptions during a performance to leave the theater.
