Smithville School District Foundaon Disnguished Alumni Wall of Fame Inducon September 27, 2019 Patsy Shepherd Cafferata, Class of 1962 Patsy Shepherd Cafferata graduated as the valedictorian of her class and was named Chicagos Adversing Woman of the Year in 1986 by the Womens Adversing Club of Chicago. Aſter graduang from Northwest Missouri State University, Pasty first job out of college was with an adversing agency in Kansas City where she started as an execuve secretary and was later pro- moted to Research Assistant. Next she accepted a job at Chicago adversing agency, Needham, Harper & Steers (later named DDB) as a Research Associate and worked up to Senior Vice President, Research Director, and member of the agencys Adversing and Strategy Review Board. In 1986, Pasty was hired by Young & Rubicam Chicago (Y&R) to be President and CEO. Y&R is one of the largest adversing agencies in the world. Pasty was one of the first women to be CEO of a major adversing agency. While at Y&R, she transformed the office from a small company with local clients to one with large mulnaonal accounts including Kraſt, Miller Brewing, Barilla, Jim Beam, Sears, and Colgates Pet Nu- trion. Patsy has served on several Boards including Presidents Council of the Museum of Science & In- dustry, Nature Conservancy of Illinois, Chicago Area Council of Boy Scouts of America, Deans Advisory Board of Northwestern Universitys Kellogg School of Management, Chicago Apparel Center, Museum of Broadcast Communicaons, Naonal Cerebral Palsy Associaon, and RHR Internaonal. Julia Farrell Bargman, Class of 1981 Julia Farrell Bargman was acve in cheerleading, basketball, volleyball, track and many school clubs. Julia was crowned Homecoming Queen. Aſter graduang from William Jewell College, where she ran track and was honored as an outstanding female athlete, she began working for NAIA, but later returned home to Smithville. Julia's love for teaching grew at Smithville Middle School where she served as a physical educaon teacher, counselor, and coach (track, cross country, and cheer- leading). Julia was famous for her dedicaon to all students and to her colleagues. She was a mentor who modeled to others what it means to be kind, loving, giving, respecul, and brave. As the 2009 Sprint Spirit Award Winner, Julia shared, I teach and I coach because I love being with kids and I love being involved in the school.Simply put, everything that a true Warrior exemplifies was part of Julia! Julias legacy lives on with the Julia Bargman Hope Foundaon. The Foundaon has donated over $100,000, for scholarships for SHS graduang seniors, to the SHS Cross Country Team and donated to Saint Lukes Women's Center and University of Nebraska Foundaon - Breast Cancer Research and Development Foundaon. These donaons has assisted eight families in Smithville whose lives were impacted by cancer. You can never give up hope. You can never stop fighng. You cant stop living.- Julia Farrell Bargman Dr. Bradford Keeney, Class of 1969 In the spring of 1969, Dr. Bradford Keeney won an award that earned him a scholarship to M.I.T. It was at M.I.T. where he was first introduced to cybernecs and systems thinking. Dr. Keeney is crically acclaimed for his creave innovaons in the art of conducng experienal transformaon. He was accepted as a healer by the Kalahari Bushmen (San) of southern Africa and the healers of Bali, Mexico, Brazil, St. Vincent, Japan, and other tradions. Dr. Keeney also served as a professor, director, and founder of doctoral programs in numerous universies. Following his early contribuons that applied cybernecs to psychotherapy, he invented the research method called recursive frame analysis, and (with Hillary, wife) created a new orienta- on to therapeuc pracce called creave therapy. Most importantly, Hillary and Brad co-developed Sacred Ecstacs, a radically praccal approach to spiritual transformaon that brings together embod- ied cybernecs, the improvisaonal performance arts, and the tacit know-how of ecstac healing tra- dions. Their books, essays, recordings, and live performances bring something profound to the world.

Patsy Shepherd Cafferata, Class of 1962 Patsy Shepherd Cafferata graduated as the valedictorian of her class and was named Chicago’s Advertising Woman of the Year in 1986 by the Women’s Advertising Club of Chicago. After graduating from Northwest Missouri State University, Pasty first job out of college was with an advertising agency in Kansas City where she started as an executive secretary and was later pro-moted to Research Assistant. 2018 Inductees

Dr. John Preston Miller – SHS Class of 1941

Dr. Miller took a special interest in his science classes and his teacher, Mr. Farmer, said John was one of the best students he ever had. He continued studying science and chemistry at the University of Missouri. In 1943, Dr. Miller was recruited to a select group for “secret and interesting” work in Los Alamos, New Mexico, for the Atomic Energy Commission on building the atomic bomb. He later continued his doctoral studies at Harvard University and made significant contributions to the scientific field of geomorphology. Dr. Miller is recognized for his outstanding contributions in geology and geomorphology, as an author, as a professor at Pennsylvania State and Harvard Universities and as a scientist for the United States Geological Survey.

Kenneth Allmon – SHS Class of 1924

Dr. Allmon was a star football player for Smithville High School and he brought those

skills to play for Warrensburg State Teachers’ College where he also excelled. While

Dr. Allmon was serving as economics teacher, principal and football coach for

Lathrop schools, he was drafted into the US Army to serve in WWII. His outstanding

contributions to our country were recognized with the following awards: Silver Star

Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Asiatic –

Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star,

World War II Victory Medal, 2 Overseas Bars for combat, Marksmanship Badge and

a Submachine Gun Expert Badge. After WWII he kept his involvement with the youth

by becoming a juvenile officer in Liberty, MO, where he was strict but fair.

Dr. Homer L. Williams – Class of 1956

Dr. Williams, always proud to be a student of Smithville High School, became an accomplished and highly-recognized architect. In 1962 he earned his degree at Kansas State University and his Ph.D. at the University of Hawaii. He received honors in recognition of his outstanding contributions as a drummer in “Dixie Land Duo”, as a graduate teacher at the University of Hawaii and as an architect that was appointed by Governor “Kit” Bond to the Missouri Board of Architecture in 1982 and as an author. Just some of the local projects that Dr. Williams helped build include: Smithville Spelman Hospital Extended Care, Spelman Hospital at Barry Rd., Owens Library at Northwest Missouri State University, and the following area schools: North Kansas City, Park Hill, Platte County, West Platte, Excelsior Springs, Odessa, Clinton County, Kirksville and Smithville. Along with area judicial buildings, Chappell’s Restaurant and Northland Fountain. Dr. Williams has numerous architectural achievements throughout the world.

D. Ward Hanks – SHS Class of 1939

Just a few of the accomplishments and honors of Mr. Hanks include: Smithville High School star football player and 440-yard dash runner, United States Air Force Bronze Battle Star recipient, recipient of the Air Medal with 13 Oak Leaf clusters, recipient of the George Hixon Fellowship Award from Kiwanis International, and President of the Smithville Board of Education at the time the land was purchased where the south campus is located. In his life-long occupation of funeral director, Mr. Hanks had a powerful effect on individuals in the community during their time of personal stress. He devoted his life to serving the Smithville community and school district.

Howard McHenry -- SHS Class of 1947

Just a few of the accomplishments and honors of Mr. McHenry in-clude: musician, athlete on Smithville High School’s championship football, basketball and baseball teams, Eagle Scout, President of Kansas City Chiefs Club working with Lamar Hunt on NFL 2-point conversion rule, Mayor of Harrisonville, International Shrine Ward of Merit recipient, and writer and publisher of several books including “Ways to Win”, “First a Dream”, “Family Loss” books, “Modernize to Recovery”, and “Small Town America Community Development Man-uals”. At Smithville High School, Mr. McHenry was a dreamer. He dreamed of becoming a band leader and someday owning an automobile deal-ership. He achieved both of these dreams – musician and owner of McHenry Motors, Harrisonville, Missouri. Mr. McHenry currently serves as the CEO of CITYMARK. He recently shared that, “At SHS we learned to pray, respect our flag, country, family, share with oth-ers, apply common sense procedures and use good manners. We were taught to compete and to chase our dreams. Those are the teachings and fond memories I will leave on the SHS Wall of Fame.”

Collins F. (Colonel) Kindred Class of 1939

High School Accomplishments: Class President, Eagle Scout, Captain of his senior year Basketball team Post Education he attended: Studied voice at the KC Conservatory of Music. Received a degree in Business Administration from University of Missouri - Columbia Occupation: Owner and Dealer/Operator of Kindred Chevrolet (family own business since 1922), Smithville Real Estate Broker and Developer Accomplishments: Founding member of the Smithville Breakfast Club, predecessor to the current Chamber of Commerce, multiple civic organizations, US Army WWII veteran and Purple Heart recipient, Entrepreneur, historian, and writer to mention a few items.

Dr. Robert D. Williams -- Class of 1951

High School Accomplishments: Editor of “The Green-wave”, Cheerleader, Carnival Swing Band, Football, Band, STUCO Past Class President, Boy’s State, Honor Roll, Jr. STUCO President, and Stage Crew Chairman

Post Education he attended: Central MO State University, BS, 1955; University of MO-Columbia, MD, 1959; Residency in Thoracic Surgery Univ. Miss., 1964

Occupation: Medical Doctor Specialist in Thoracic and Cardio Surgery at Univ. Miss. Surgery Dept. 1960 to 1964; Spelman Hospital 1965 – 1971, and 1971 to Retirement he ran a Private Practice.

Dr. Williams was recognized as a Top Thoracic Surgeon in KC, MO 3 years in row by fellow surgeons. Was the Chief of Staff at NKC Hospital and is a former Eagle Scout.
