Uganda 2015! Paul Smith, CornerStone International June -August 2015 Hello all! I hope you’re doing well! I’m sending this to update you about some of the excit- ing things the Lord has done (and is doing) since I was in Uganda last summer, and about my plans to return this summer. You might remember that I decided last summer to return to Kentucky to pursue a Mas- ter’s Degree in civil engineering. Well, I’m in the thick of it right now, but God is daily showing me His faithfulness. I learned a lot this past year about how important it is for us to be dependent on the Lord. When I seek intimacy or authority in Him without dependency, it’s easy for me to try to make those happen, instead of simply receiving them. Also, this past year, I was selected to chair the Board of Directors for Doors Ministries. I am really excited and blessed to officially join the ministry. Last Summer Last summer, I returned to Uganda to work with Doors Ministries, which I joined when I worked for Engineering Ministries International (EMI). While I was there, I came alongside the leadership team to work on direction and various tasks, including leading the boys in Bible studies and construction projects. One our favorites was making a homemade ice cream maker…needless to say it was well used! I am very blessed to have such a deep relationship with these boys, and am honored to be one of the few men they look up to, an honor I don’t take lightly. I also reconnected with my old friends at EMI, the girls I am sponsoring, and even Daniel, my friend from Kenya who is like a brother to me. Hello all! I hope youre doing well! Im sending this to update you about some of the excit-ing things the Lord has done (and is doing) since I was in Uganda last summer, and aboutmy plans to return this summer.

You might remember that I decided last summer to return to Kentucky to pursue a Mas-ters Degree in civil engineering. Well, Im in the thick of it right now, but God is dailyshowing me His faithfulness. I learned a lot this past year about how important it is for usto be dependent on the Lord. When I seek intimacy orauthority in Him without dependency, its easy for me totry to make those happen, instead of simply receiving them. Also, this past year, I was selected to chair the Board ofDirectors for Doors Ministries. I am really excited andblessed to officially join the ministry.

Last SummerLast summer, I returned to Uganda to work with DoorsMinistries, which I joined when I worked for EngineeringMinistries International (EMI). While I was there, I camealongside the leadership team to work on direction andvarious tasks, including leading the boys in Bible studiesand construction projects. One our favorites was makinga homemade ice cream makerneedless to say it was well used! I am very blessed to havesuch a deep relationship with these boys, and am honored to be one of the few men theylook up to, an honor I dont take lightly.

I also reconnected with my old friends at EMI, the girls I am sponsoring, and even Daniel, myfriend from Kenya who is like a brother to me. Fred churning ice cream

  • DoorsOne of my favorite things about Doors Ministries is that we have given theLord a blank slate, and said OK, Jesus, anything goes. Sometimes thatmeans taking in the roughest kids or stepping into the unknown, other timesthat means trusting God for promises He has made and seeing them fulfilled. In the past year God has led Doors into all of these. We have taken in newboys, graduated the oldest boys to a new independent living house, boughtland to equip many people for ministry and work, initiated foster homes forat-risk girls, and hired additional staff. We have been overwhelmed by Godsfaithfulness! Most of the time Gods will is not the most comfortable, but it isalways the best! God is searching the earth for hearts that are completelyhis, and those He finds He takes on a wild kingdom journey!

This SummerI am really excited to return to Uganda this summer, and this time my brotheris coming! We will continue working with Doors to see the kingdom of Godcome into the world through each of these amazing people. Thats a bigstatement, but we see it happen when we stop for the one person in front ofus. In practical terms, I will continue working with the leadership of Doors tocast vision, facilitate orientation for summer volunteers, work on constructionprojects at the different Doors properties, and of course, sow into the boys!

Wrapping UpDue to some generous gifts, my personal expenses for the summer are alreadycovered. However, if you would like to donate funds towards the projects I willbe working on, or to receive more information about Doors, please fill out theenclosed slip. As always, Im asking you to pray for me leading up to this trip, and while I am in Uganda. We have a cunning enemy who likes us to thinkwere facing him alone, but praise the Lord, we have Him, and we have thebody (you) that He has given us! I love you all and am so thankful for you :)

In the mighty name of Jesus our Savior,

    Paul
