When Ho appeared at theCocoanut Grove in LosAngeles about 10 years ago, women in his audience stoodo n c h a i r s s c r e a m e d ,drooled, panted and generally speaking, made fools ofthemselves over the thenround faced Hawaiian whoaccepted their adulationwith sleepy good humourand a puzzlement which

Grove," says Ho, "I don'tknow where they got theidea I was a sex symbol, because I was about 2Cpounds over-weight thenand didn't know nothingabout show business "
However, he must have alwaysrealized that he has a kindof sexiness which is commercial, because thoughthere is a Mrs Ho, he neverintroduces her from thestage nor does he talk abouther

His name is Ray CharlesAnother is a girl from England
whose first hit song, performed at a communityfunction, was ' Let s All Singthe Barmaid Song ' She wasthen three Now she's grownup and known as CleoLame
And the third is a Jewish boybom back at the turn of thecentury m New York
A vital confident kid with anunusual way of playing thepiano he grew up to beGeorge Gershwin who, some30 years later, wrote the classic folk opera, "Porgy andBess "
RCA brought "Porgy," Rayand Cleo together this yearwith producer-impresarioNorman Granz and con-ductor-arranger FrankDeVol to produce to two-record album that has torank among the greatest ofrecent years
The music — Summer time,'"Bess, You Is My WomanNow,' 'It Ain't Necessarilyso ' '̂1 Got Plenty of Nuttin — is just as vivid andmoving as it was back in the1930s when Gershwin wroteit not long before his death
Charles, master of that greatest instrument, the voice, superb as Porey.
Cleo Lame has incredjblerange so that she sometimescan come across like theold-time jazz, singer, BessieSmith, and other tunes likeone of those big ladies whosing high notes in the opera.
In this album she is truly Bess-Copley.
