WARRANTOR: RELM WIRELESS CORPORATION, ("RELM")

ELEMENTS OF WARRANTY: RELM warrants, for one year, tothe original retail owner, this Uniden Product to be free fromdefects in materials and craftsmanship with only the limitationsor exclusions set out below.

WARRANTY DURATION: This warranty to the original user shallterminate and be of no further effect 24 months after the date oforiginal retail sale. The warranty is invalid if the Product is (A)damaged or not maintained as reasonable or necessary, (B)modified, altered, or used as part of any conversion kits, subas-semblies, or any configurations not sold by Uniden, (C) improp-erly installed, (D) serviced or repaired by someone other thanan authorized Uniden service center for a defect or malfunctioncovered by this warranty, (E) used in any conjunction with equip-ment or parts or as part of any system not manufactured byUniden, or (F) installed or programmed by anyone other thanas detailed by the Operating Guide for this product.

STATEMENT OF REMEDY: In the event that the product doesnot conform to this warranty at any time while this warranty is ineffect, warrantor will repair the defect and return it to you with-out charge for parts, service, or any other cost (except shippingand handling) incurred by warrantor or Its representatives inconnection with the performance of this warranty. THE LIM-ITED WARRANTY SET FORTH ABOVE IS THE SOLE ANDENTIRE WARRANTY PERTAINING TO THE PRODUCT ANDIS IN LIEU OF AND EXCLUDES ALL OTHER WARRANTIESOF ANY NATURE WHATSOEVER, WHETHER EXPRESS. LicensingBefore using your radio, you must have theproper Federal Communications Commission(FCC) license. Your Uniden dealers can help withthis requirement. They can help you with all ofyour future communications needs.

DescriptionThe SMU 4525 is a microprocessor controlled 25watt two-way UHF FM mobile business radio.TheSMU 4525 operates in the 450 to 470 MHzrange.

The SMH 1525 is a microprocessor controlled 25watt two-way VHF FM mobile business radio. TheSMH 1525 operates in the 150 to 174 MHzrange.

These radios have the following features:

• 10 Channel Operation• 38 EIA CTCSS Tones• 104 DCS Codes• Channel Scan• Automatic Channel Display Dimmer• Time Out Timer• Key-press Alert Tone• Busy Channel TX Lockout

Note: Many of these features must beprogrammed by the dealer.

ServiceIf your radio does not work properly, take it to aUniden dealer for servicing. These radios containno user serviceable parts. Unauthorizedadjustments will void the warranty and may causeillegal radio operation. Make sure that a qualifiedtechnician services your radio equipment. Whenservicing these radios, use only factoryauthorized replacement parts.

Talk-back Channel Allows the user torespond to a call withoutusing the channel selector toreach the active channel.When you remove themicrophone from the hook,the radio stops on the firstpriority channel. TheChannel Display shows thisfirst priority channel unlessthe microphone is off-hook;then the called channel isdisplayed. Talk-back Scan isprogrammed into the radioby your dealer.

Time Out Timer Automatically turns off thetransmitter after theprogrammed time intervalexpires. Beforedisconnecting, the radiosounds an alert. The TimeOut Timer is programmedinto the radio by your dealer.

Optional Features

Alert The Alert feature can beprogrammed (by yourDealer) to sound a tonewhen you press the MONand SCAN switches.

Controls and Indicators

Front Controls

Monitor Switch (MON) - Press to monitor atransmission whether or not it has CTCSS orDCS coding. Monitor stops active scanning.Press MON again to disable.

Channel Scan Switch (SCAN) - Press to turnthe scan feature on. Press SCAN again todisable.

Rotary Channel Selector - Rotate clockwise orcounterclockwise to select the desired channel.The channel number shows in the channeldisplay.

Power On/Off - Volume Control (VOL) - Rotateclockwise to turn the power on and to increasethe volume. Rotate counterclockwise to decreasethe volume and turn the power off.

Squelch Control (SQ) - Rotate clockwise todecrease or counterclockwise to increase theopening sensitivity of the receiver. When you firstswitch the radio on, rotate this control fullycounterclockwise, adjust the volume to acomfortable level, and then rotate clockwise untilall background noise disappears.

Push-to-Talk (PTT) Switch (on microphone) -Press to transmit. Release to receive.

Busy Channel TX Prevents keying up theLockout transmitter when a carrier

with the same frequency ispresent. This featureblocks interference to otherusers sharing the samechannel frequency.

Scan To start scanning, press inand latch the Scan switch.To search for callsaddressed to your unit, leavethe scan feature on. Whenyou unhook the microphonefrom a properly groundedmicrophone hanger, thechannel scan pauses.Channel scanning resumeswhen you place themicrophone on the groundedhook. The radio scans untilyou either unground themicrophone, press theMonitor switch, or press theScan switch again torelease it.

Monitor Press in and latch theMonitor switch. The Monitorfeature disables the CTCSS/DCS decoding and scanning.The radio monitors theselected channel whether itis coded or not. Press theswitch again to release it(press to unlatch).

The following table indicates the action of theScan and Monitor functions.

Indicators and Display

Automatic Dimmer Sensor - Adjusts theintensity of the indicators. If the ambient lightlevel increases, the intensity of the indicatorsincreases. If the ambient light level decreases,the intensity of the indicators decreases. Thissensor requires no operator adjustments.

Channel Display - Green LED shows the currentchannel number as a single digit. Channel 10displays as O (zero).

Transmit Indicator (TX) - Red indicator lightswhile you press the PTT switch and shows thatthe radio is transmitting.

Call Indicator (CALL) - If you receive a call on aCTCSS or DCS coded channel, the yellow indicatorlights to show transmission from another radio. Ifyou press the PTT switch, this indicator turns off.

Busy Indicator (BUSY) - Green indicator lights ifa carrier occurs on the receive channel. This showstransmit activity on the channel by another radio.

Rear Connectors

Antenna Connector - Connect the antenna tothe radio.

Power Connector - Connect the power cable tothe radio.

Accessory Connector- Connect optionalaccessories to the radio, such as an optionalexternal speaker.

Operating Instructions

1. Rotate the VOL (volume) control clockwiseuntil it clicks to turn on the radio.

2. Press in and latch the MON switch.

3. Rotate the SQ (squelch) control fullycounterclockwise.

4. Adjust the volume to a comfortable level byrotating the VOL control clockwise toincrease the volume or counterclockwise todecrease the volume.

5. Rotate the SQ control clockwise until allbackground noise disappears. For the bestoperation, leave the squelch control in thisposition. Continuing to rotate the squelchcontrol clockwise results in decreasedreceiver sensitivity.

6. Press the MON switch again to unlatch.

7. Rotate the Rotary Channel Selector until thechannel you want appears in the channeldisplay.

8. Listen for any messages on the channel.

9. To use the scan feature, press in the scanswitch.

10. When there is no activity on the channel,press and hold the PTT switch and begintransmitting. The transmit indicator lights.For the best transmission, hold themicrophone approximately two inches infront of your mouth. Before you startspeaking, wait 1 to 2 seconds after pressingthe PTT switch. Speak clearly and in anormal conversational voice.

11. When you finish speaking, immediatelyrelease the PTT switch and listen for a reply.
