Our world is becoming

INSTRUMENTED

Our world is becoming

INTERCONNECTED

Virtually all things, processes and waysof working are becoming

INTELLIGENT

INSTRUMENTED

We now have the ability to measure, sense and see the exact condition of virtually everything.

An estimated 2 billion people will be on the Web by 2011.

By 2010, 30 billion RFID tags will be embedded into our world and across entire ecosystems.

Mobile data traffic will roughly double each year from 2008 through 2012.

Everything will become instrumented: supply chains, healthcare networks, cities and even natural systems like rivers.

INTERCONNECTED

People, systems, and objects can communicate and interact with each other in entirely new ways.

Numbers joining online social networking sites with active memberships is forecast to reach 500m+ by 2012.

Mobile phone subscribers crossed 4 billion in 2010.

More than 550 million GPS-enabled handsets will be used by 2012.

The Internet of things—cars, appliances, cameras, roadways, pipeline, pharmaceuticals and even livestock—is headed to 1 trillion.

INTELLIGENT

We can respond to changes quickly and accurately, and get better results by predicting and optimizing for future events.

Total IP traffic for 2012 will amount to more than half a zettabyte (or 522 exabytes). A zettabyte is a trillion gigabytes.

Global IP traffic will increase by a factor of six from 2007 to 2012.

Video on demand, IP television and Internet TV will account for nearly 90 percent of all consumer IP traffic in 2012.

New computing models manage the massive amounts of data generated by the proliferation of end-user devices, sensors, and actuators. Combined with advanced analytics, these technologies are makingus smarter.

Traffic isn't just a line of cars: it's a web of connections among cars, buses, crossings, streets, bridges,

intersections, signs, signals and tolls.

Smarter traffic systems will rely on the connection of these transportation elements through a strong communications

infrastructure as well as intelligent communications capabilities such as presence and location.

Success in automating patient records, sharing patient data, conducting remote diagnostics, and more depend on fast and robust Telecom infrastructure and systems.

Smarter healthcare systems will rely on intelligence known only to the service provider such as subscriber

preferences, presence and location.

Smarter food suppliers are improving food safety by using RFID technology to track and trace food from the

farm, through the supply chain, to supermarket shelves.

Smarter food systems will depend on a communications infrastructure capable of integrating and delivering information to and from a variety of new devices

and systems.
