Recruiting Rules of Thumb• All senior leadership should be sourcing their

own people• Recruiting starts at the top and happens at

every level• Recruit even when you feel that you’re fully

staffed• Review your recruiting plan monthly

• Employees – they know what you’re looking for. Reward them for the talent they bring in!

• Your competitors – choose the talent you want (not the ones that call you) and offer them a competitive package.

• Suppliers and customers – ask who (outside of your company) has been impressing them lately.

Where To Source (pt. 1)

Where To Source (pt. 2)• Internal candidates – develop a career path

• LinkedIn – number 1 technology source for recruiting

• Centers of Influence – meetups and clubs, churches, connections, non-profits, friends, etc.

Where NOT To Source• Headhunters – there are a few exceptions, such as Doctors

and Senior Executive Level positions.

• Newspapers – because this is 2016.

• People looking for jobs – the success ratio is ten times higher when you hire someone who is currently employed.

• Colleges – there are exceptions if you have amazing senior pools as well as a training program

What Are You Looking For?• Don’t solely focus on hiring for skill, spend time

finding the right personality fit for the position, and the right cultural fit for your company.

• Do they fit, or are you making them fit? It is better to take more time to find the right person, than to spend more time fixing a mistake.
