Smart Proximity / how it works

• The solution ensures that a safe distance is maintained

between coworkers.

• Each worker is outfitted with a unique proximity sensor

(e.g. wristband, badge, card):

• If the distance between two proximity sensors is

below the safe distance, both proximity sensors

emit a warning (sound, light, vibration, etc.).

• This critical event data is recorded and sent to

the central platform.

• If workers maintain a safe distance, proximity

sensors don’t interact with each other and no

data is recorded.

Proximity Gateway.Identifies an industrial grade IoT ready Edge device thatsupports various communication protocols. BLE or WiFihave been assumed as available in this specific solution.The coverage of the area is limited to the communicationtechnology used and the type of antenna.

Proximity Sensor. The wearable sensor, engineered in a bracelet, badge orsimilar type of item, creates a system able to interact with one or more sensorslocated nearby. The sensors interact with each other by sending and receivingproximity information. When two devices are "visible" to each other, they providereal-time warning indicators (sound, led light), asking the operators to maintain asafe distance. The alert function does not need to interact with the center, since itis autonomously activated by the device.

• By means of the WiFi network or BLE (depending on the device model), theinformation collected by the device is sent to the proximity gateway, whichforwards it to the platform.

• The device contains an ISO 15693 receiver/transmitter and uses a 13.56 MHzcarrier with low power consumption.

• The device sends diagnostic information to the platform, such as the batterylevel.

• The device is equipped with a button battery, whose life varies from 3 to 5days. The device can be recharged via USB or induction.

• The device is able to detect other nearby devices within a range of 6 feet (1.5meters) with a +/- 5 inch (10 cm) margin of error.

• The device features a memory that stores data and information in case ofcommunication failure with the proximity gateway.

• The device does not require any anchorage points, significantly reducing theinfrastructure costs.

The proposed technology is suitable for industrial environments, because it isunaffected by infrastructure noise and critical operating conditions.

Proximity Sensor Configuration.

The connection to the plant WiFi network takes place on entirebatches of devices using the ISO 15693 proximity antenna of suchdevices (reception).

The WiFi network configuration parameters are transmitted bymeans of a desktop application in the Smart Proximity platform andan appropriate ISO 15693 (transmitting) antenna with adequatepower connected to the computer’s USB port.

The solution allows you to connect and configure thousands ofdevices in minutes.

Proximity Sensor. Identifies sensors capable of sendingproximity information.

Proximity Gateway. Identifies smart devices (IoT Edgegateway, smartphone) able to communicate the proximityinformation received from the proximity sensors to theproximity dispatcher. The minimum information sent is: UUIDp,UUIDs, timestamp, distance. It also sends the informationreceived from the proximity messaging to the proximity sensor.

Proximity Dispatcher. Identifies a software module that keepstrack of the information received from the gateway andforwards it to the proximity monitor and the proximity storage.

Proximity Monitor. Identifies a software module thatprocesses the data streaming in real time, detecting the criticalevents it is configured for. Critical events are sent to theproximity analytics.

Proximity Storage. Identifies a properly partitioned in-memory datagrid that anonymously keeps record of the received proximityinformation for an appositely configured period of time.

Proximity Analytics. Identifies a software module that performsseveral "smart" functions, such as identifying and isolating thecluster of relations over time. In critical conditions, it sends data tothe proximity messaging.

Proximity Messaging. Identifies a software module, whose task is tosend appropriately configured messages to the proximity gateways,which in turn forwards them to the proximity sensors whenconnected.
