SMART INDIA HACKATHON 2020 (INTERNAL HACKATHON)
Smart India Hackathon 2020 is a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve some
of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product
innovation and a mindset of problem solving. The last edition of the hackathon saw over 5 million+
students from various colleges compete for the top prize at 65+ locations. In SIH 2020, the students
would have the opportunity to work on challenges faced within various Ministries, Departments,
Industries, PSUs and NGOs to create world class solutions for some of the top organizations
including industries in the world, thus helping the Private sector hire the best minds from across
the nation. It can help to:
Harness creativity & expertise of students
Spark institute-level hackathons
Build funnel for 'Startup India' campaign
Crowdsource solutions for improving governance and quality of life
Provide opportunity to citizens to provide innovative solutions to India's daunting
problems
SMART INDIA HACKTHON (SOFTWARE INTERNAL HACKATHON)
This year, SIH 2020 had initiated the hackathon with the aim of conducting Internal Hackathon
Round in the respective college, both for Software and Hardware Edition. Top 7 teams to be
selected from the college for Software Edition and SPOC need to submit the entries online through
SIH portal. After the release of SIH official problem statements, students were supposed to register
for the Internal Hackathons conducted separately for Software and Hardware edition separately.
The registration process began in third week of December 2019. An overwhelming response for
software edition has being seen as 53 teams (6 students per team) registered for the event. Students
from various branches such as Information Technology, Computer Engineering, EXTC,
Electronics and Biomedical had registered for the event. These teams were evaluated based on the
following criteria:

The evaluation was done by the faculty members of IT and Computer Engineering Departments.
From the registered 53 teams, we selected top 28 teams for the Internal Hackathon Round that was
scheduled on 6th Feb 2020 from 8am onwards in Computer Engineering Department. The
following faculties coordinated the complete event from registration, evaluation and successfully
organizing the event.

A timely guidance for arranging the event in Computer Engg. Department Classrooms was given
by Dr. Meera Narvekar (Head, Computer Engg. Department). Our Principal, Dr. Hari
Vasudevan had always motivated faculties and students to make this event successful and due to
his support and guidance, the event was successfully organized.
On the day of event, 28 teams were divided into 3 classrooms and the hackathon begin at 8am in
the morning. For selecting top 9 teams, we approached experts from Industry and Academicians
and also Alumni. Following are the details of experts/judges:

The judges were divided into 3 panels and started the evaluation in each classroom. The evaluation
sheet is attached further. From each class, top 3 teams were selected for second round of evaluation
where all the judges together evaluated total 9 teams to select top 7 teams. Both the rounds were
rigorously conducted and judges were very happy with the quality of projects developed by the
students. The complete successfully event ended at around 5pm in the evening.

SMART INDIA HACKTHON (HARDWARE INTERNAL HACKATHON)
We witnessed good response for hardware edition of hackathon for 2020 which was 18 teams (6
students per team) registered for the event. Students from various branches such as Biomedical,
Electronics, EXTC, mechanical and production had registered for the event. We witnessed the
teams were well planned with students from all backgrounds for assured product deliverable.
These teams were evaluated based on the following criteria/score card:

Our Principal, Dr. Hari Vasudevan had always been motivating students and faculties since the
inception of SIH and making this event successful in terms of participation as well as achievements
every year.
Support towards the planning and execution of internal hackathon was extended by staff members
of all departments at all levels.
Hardware Internal Hackathon at DJSCE was scheduled and executed on 5th and 6th February, 2020.
Of the registered 19 teams, 4 teams have been shortlisted 4 based on open assessment score card.
The evaluation was done by 3 senior faculty members of DJSCE as judges. Judges are listed below.
On both days, assessment started at 2:00 PM and ended at 4:00 PM.
