SMART ENERGY METER USING ANDROID DEVICE SUHAIRA TASNEEM P.M,LIVYA PAUL,LAKSHMISREE. S GUIDE : KALA .M. KARU N INTRODUCTION PROPOSED SYSTEM EXISTING SYSTEM FEATURES The project entitled “mart Energy Meter Using Android DeviĐe . This system controls automated Energy Meter which is having capabilities like remote monitoring and controlling of energy meter. Automatic meter reading monitors the energy meter and sends data on request of service provider through internet. The application sends electricity bill by online. It helps electricity companies who have outstanding dues, otherwise electricity board can disconnect the electricity of customer. Companies can re-connect the power after deposition of dues. The system also gives the power cut information and tempering alert. The cost efficient transmission of readings ensures that power consumption values can be transmitted more frequently to a remote station. The implication of being able to transmit readings more often are that energy utilities will be able to generate timely bills, better understand energy demand patterns for network dimensioning and Demand Side Management (DSM) , maintain meter failures more efficiently and manage fraud better .The entire system can be cost effective and significant amounts of time and money can be saved, by implementing automated system, as opposed to one involving the human element. The system also poses much less of a safety risk since human interaction has been minimized. The project is developed on the basis of PHP as front end tool and MYSQL as back end tool. And some of the JQUERY features also included in the design process. PHP is used for the designing, coding and it is slight variance of HTML. MYSQL is used as the database, it is used to storing and retrieving data. There are several coding for connecting the database as well as storing Data. JAVA codings is used for android device purpose The traditional electro-mechanical meters, still widely used today, are prone to drift over temperature and time as a result of the analogue and mechanical nature of the components in these meters. Collection of meter readings also inefficient, because a meter reader has to physically be on-site to take the readings. This method of collecting of meter readings becomes more problematic and costly when readings have to be collected from vast, and often scattered rural areas. Meter readers are reluctant to make the effort to travel to such areas and will often submit inaccurate estimations of amount of electricity consumed. Electronic meters display the energy used on an LCD or LED display, and some can also transmit readings to remote places. In addition to measuring energy used, electronic meters can also record other parameters of the load and supply such as instantaneous and maximum rate of usage demands, voltages, power factor and reactive power used etc. They can also support time-of-day billing, for example, recording the amount of energy used during on-peak and off-peak hours. DISADVANTAGES The main commercial problems faced by power conventional consumption meters are as follows. Debt from the client. Meter tampering by clients. Dishonesty and bribery of visiting meter readers. Stealing of power by clients. Security and environment for where the meters are installed The android based meters developed have a dual digital display, by LED and numerical wheel display, which is managed remotely by admin based on GSM.
