Greetings in our Savior Jesus.

Welcome to Martin Luther College and to New Ulm. It is our joyfulprivilege to host this tournament and welcome participants and theirfamilies to our campus. Certainly, even in competition, whatever youdo…do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God theFather through him. May his name be glorified in our midst thisweekend. And even though we might cheer for different teams andrepresent different schools, we can still glimpse the reality of the family offaith: all of you who were baptized into Christ have been clothed withChrist. …you are all one in Christ Jesus.

MLC is your College of Ministry because it is supported by the prayersand the thank offerings of God’s people in the WELS. It exists for thesole purpose of preparing public servants of the Gospel. Someday ourstudents will serve in the churches and schools and missions of theWELS, here in North America and around the world. Studies preparestudents to serve in pastoral ministry, early childhood education,elementary education, secondary education, and staff ministry. Pleasetake time to look around. If you have questions or need directions, askany member of the MLC family - students and faculty alike. It is mypersonal prayer that some of the participants of the tournament mightprayerfully consider coming to MLC someday.

BASKETBALL FANS

1. Spectators are an important part of the game and should at all times conform to accepted standards of good sportsmanship and behav-ior.

2. Spectators should at all times respect officials, coaches, and players and extend all courtesies to them.

3. Enthusiastic and wholesome cheering is encouraged.

4. Booing, stamping feet, and disrespectful remarks should be avoided at all times.

5. Bells, whistles, or noisemakers are not permitted to be used in the gym.

6. During free throws, there should be absolute quiet.

Tournament time is an exciting time. The athletes are trying to win a championship and the students and parents are cheering on their favorite team. Tournament time is also a time to practice sports-manship. We sincerely hope that good sportsman-ship will be exhibited by the players and coaches and equally good sportsmanship by both students and parents.

Some of the things to remember are: Only one team can win and the players must learn to be good winners and good losers. The referees are trying their best to call a good game. You may not agree with every call they make but they are trying to be fair to each team. When you are cheering, cheer for the good things your team does and not the bad things the other team does.

We hope you have a good time and enjoy the tournament.
