Volume 9, Issue 2 • Fall 2015 A publication by Small Donations Make Big Impact on Families For Tracy and her family CAC meant not having to choose between living without utilities or being evicted. Their electricity had been turned off, and their gas was about to be turned off. Tracy had a job but her hours were reduced. CAC helped the family get their power turned back on and contributed funds toward rent. The family of three was also given food and clothing vouchers which allowed them to use their cash to pay bills. CAC youth programs helped the family again with school supplies and holiday gifts for their daughter, gifts they otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford. Today the family remains in their home living on a tight budget. CAC continues to support the family occasionally with food and enrollment in Adopt-a-Family this year. Tracy’s family is grateful to CAC supporters who helped her family and others like hers stay in their homes through an unexpected financial crisis. “Thank you for all that you have done to help my family, and all the families that you help, and for those who volunteer and donate, you have no idea how valuable that is. The volunteers serve with such kind hearts. We appreciate you all so much! May the blessings return to you ten-fold.” – Tracy Helping Local Families in Need $300 Helps Pay Rent $100 Pays a Utility Bill $50 Buys a Child Holiday Gifts $30 Gives a Family Holiday Food Give Children Holiday Gifts! The Value of VolunteersGiving hope isn’t just a phrase, it’s what CAC volunteers do for everyone who walks through the door looking for help.

To volunteer, Judy Lagerbloom CAC has become her passion. Judy came to CAC via Rivercli Lutheran Church, spearheaded the church’s involvement and also made a signicant personal commitment.

Judy is part of the client interview team of volunteers. They are the rst people at CAC that prospective clients interact with. This volunteer team takes phone calls, makes appointments, meets with clients, gathers their information, hears their stories and determines how CAC can help them. “I am more tired when I go home than I have ever been but it’s such a good tired because I’ve done something for someone,” said Judy.

That something Judy says is being there to listen, and helping a neighbor that is in crisis realize they have taken the rst step in resolving their situation by being there at CAC.

Interview volunteers set up clients with as much assistance as possible to help them remain in the homes, such as emergency nancial assistance for utilities or rent, food and clothing. They also provide referrals to other sources of assistance, and oer CAC adult education classes to enhance job and life skills.

“I try to send everyone home knowing that there is hope because sometimes they come in thinking it’s hopeless, and nothing is hopeless. I remind them that we are here for them.”

CAC donors helped more than 850 local children this past summer by providing lunches and new backpacks with school supplies for the start of school! Summer months are dicult for lower income families who live on tight budgets because children are home and not receiving free breakfast and lunch at school. New backpacks and school supplies can cost more than $50 per child at retail prices. CAC’s new Tools for School campaign made it easy for donors to give to students at schools of their choice and get more bang for their buck. CAC purchased backpacks and school supplies in bulk at wholesale costs! About $10,000 in donations

was matched by an anonymous donor to buy backpacks and school supplies. Volunteers assembled and distrib-uted the backpacks at the end of July. Financial and in-kind donations of food also provided 860 lunches for

children of families in need from May – August. Thanks to the many individual donors and these organizations: Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church, Kiwanis Club, North Springs United Methodist Church, Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church,

Altrusa, Sandy Springs Rotary, Dunwoody Rotary, Rivercli Lutheran Church, Signature Bank, Buckhead Church, Dunwoody Baptist Church and more!
