Join us Friday September 18 as we celebrate our heritage with fellowship and a delicious Scandinavian feast. Ida Iverson. and her kitchen volunteers will prepare a salmon (laks) and meatball (kjøHboller) dinner. Also, lodge member Kristen Allen will talk about her trip to Norway where she visited her family’s farmhouse.
TIME: Arrive by 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m.
MENU: True Norwegian Salmon in a parsley, buHer and wine sauce, Swedish Meatballs in Cream Sauce, Twice Baked Cauliflower, Lefse, and for dessert Cake and Ice Cream. Coffee and So[ Drinks will be served.
DONATION: $15 per person. Children age 16 and under are free.

PROGRAM by Kristen Allen: Our family, the Knudson's and Allen’s, travelled to Norway this past spring to visit the Holen House, our family farmhouse built in Folldal in 1755. The house has since been moved and now serves as a museum, being one of the first examples of a two story home in Norway.
Visigng the Holen House was a meaningful experience and the highlight of our trip. We're looking forward to sharing our journey with the Sons of Norway members.
BUSINESS MEETING: There will be a business meegng to present the slate of officers for 2016-‐2018.
Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran church, 7860 Southside Boulevard, is located on the parallel service road between JT Butler and Old Baymeadows Road. Greegngs fellow members and friends,
Our summer hiatus has ended and the next several months will be busy for our lodge. I hope that everyone had a great summer. I know that some of
our members traveled including my sister Marci and me.
As we recessed for summer, our annual lodge brunch and new member welcome was a great success. We welcomed 17 members that day and are very pleased to have them join us. As we know adding new members and keeping the ones we have is crigcally important to us locally and of course across the organizagon. We always appreciate members pargcipagng in our acgviges and offering ways to improve our member benefits.
Our lodge is again hosgng a regaHa – this gme it’s the Leif Erikson RegaHa in St. Augusgne Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2 and 3. Normally hosted by the Gulfstream Lodge who wanted a year off, we agreed to host this fun event. Informagon about the weekend acgviges are included in this newsleHer. SON Fraternal Director Linda Pedersen will be joining us from Minneapolis as well as friends from around the zone and district. It will be a fun weekend so please plan to aHend. Hotel reservagons are needed soon. If you have a “boat” quesgon contact Eugene Yerkes, our sports director. If you have an event quesgon contact Marci Larson.
I am very excited about our first-‐of-‐a-‐kind upcoming cruise in January that our lodge is sponsoring. This idea emerged during our board planning session in January and thus far we have a good number of pargcipants. The informagon is included in the newsleHer and has been shared with others through our district newsleHer. The ship is lovely with outstanding ameniges and the schedule is very accommodagng. It promises to
be a fun week at sea. But the longer you wait to commit the more it will cost. Our annual meatball/salmon dinner is Friday, Sept. 18 with our chef Pastor Ida Iverson preparing and overseeing the meal. We will also have a short business meegng to present the Nominagng CommiHee report since we are elecgng a new board this year. And on the topic of a new board, we need members to take on leadership posigons. So, when the commiHee outreaches to you please say yes. We are all busy and some of us have been board members for a long gme.
The highlight of my summer was a wonderful eight-‐day cruise from Copenhagen through southern Norway and the Geiranger qord which was absolutely breathtaking. My sister Marci and I traveled on Norwegian Air from Ft. Lauderdale direct to Copenhagen and a day later boarded the Serenade of the Seas cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean, which is a sister ship to the Brilliance of the Seas for our January cruise. It was eight days of wonderment enjoying sunny skies, light breezes and moderate temperatures as we enjoyed Stavanger, Bergen, Alesund, the Geiranger qord and Krisgansand plus two perfect days at sea. I did not want to disembark and am really looking forward to our lodge cruise. We met people from around the globe and the staff represented nearly 70 countries, some I had never heard of. However the ship’s captain was Norwegian and we had an opportunity for a short visit with him. And the reputagon about eagng was certainly true as food was available almost 24 hours a day somewhere on the ship. So it was a fabulous experience.

The Leif Erikson RegaHa, being held this year in historic St. Augusgne, Florida, and hosted by the award-‐winning Gateway to Florida Lodge in Jacksonville is fast approaching. With events combined into two days, this Viking RegaHa promises to be a weekend of friendship and camaraderie with extra gme available to explore the 450-‐year-‐old city with cobblestone streets, quaint cafes and unique shops. The fun starts late Friday a[ernoon with a casual and relaxing welcome recepgon and then dinner on your own to explore the city’s varied cuisine. Saturday guests can enjoy breakfast at the hotel before the regaHa on the Intracoastal Waterway a few miles from the hotel and conclude the official regaHa weekend with lunch at the Jaybird, winner of the Best of St. Augusgne Award. SON Fraternal Director Linda Pederson is also joining us for the weekend.

The RegaVa The friendly but highly compeggve RegaHa will be held on the Intracoastal Waterway at the Usina Boat Ramp, 603 Euclid Avenue, St. Augusgne, FL, 32084 (adjacent to Aunt Kate’s Restaurant) just north of downtown St. Augusgne. The standard regaHa schedule will be followed with the Captain’s meegng at 10:30 a.m. and the races to follow. Preliminary heats are scheduled with men’s (mixed) crews and a women’s race followed by the men’s final race. The RegaHa is open to the public with no admission charge. You may want to bring a lawn chair. Hotel AccommodaPons For our out-‐of-‐town guests planning to stay in St. Augusgne Friday and/or Saturday nights, rooms are reserved at Jaybird’s Inn, 2700 North Ponce de Leon Blvd., St. Augusgne, FL, 32084 with rates and tax from $109 -‐ $130 per night. These are non-‐smoking rooms. Call the Jaybird directly at 877-‐860-‐3892 for reservagons and request the Sons of Norway group rate. Room reserva)ons must be picked up and guaranteed by credit card 14 days prior to arrival. They will provide extra parking for the Viking boats. Other hotels are nearby but we do not have a rate. The Jaybird is a bougque hotel for acgve people offering clean and “green” rooms that include a 42 inch LCD TV with over 80 channels, Starbucks coffee in your room, an Acgvity Center, pool and free bikes to use. Each guest receives a $5 voucher towards breakfast at the on-‐property restaurant or free Congnental breakfast.
About St. AugusPne No maHer if this is a first or repeat visit to St. Augusgne be ready for a unique cultural experience. There’s never been a beHer gme to visit this historic city than 2015 during the city’s 450th anniversary. St. Augusgne was the first permanent European seHlement in the U.S. In April 1513 explorer Ponce de León landed near St. Augusgne, staking a claim for the Spanish crown. While he did not establish a seHlement, he sent word back that Florida was an ideal place for a colony. Fi[y-‐two years later, Pedro Menėndez de Avilės left Spain under the king’s direction to establish St. Augustine in 1565. And as they say the rest is history!

It is gme to get ready for the Leif Erikson RegaHa. We are having a rowing pracgce on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 2:00 p.m. We will meet behind Hooter’s restaurant, 8938 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, 32257, on Goodby’s Creek.
