About Lifesaving Gear and Equipment… SLS CLUBS AND SERVICES Any gear and equipment used by SLSA affiliated clubs and services for the purposes of frontline surf lifesaving or surf rescue must be endorsed by the national Lifesaving Standing Committee and on the list in this manual. This is to ensure that members are using equipment is of the highest industry standard, fulfils operational requirements, and is safe to use. Clubs and services using equipment that is not endorsed and listed as approved should be aware that they may be susceptible to any possible insurance and litigation issues resulting from an incident. SUPPLIERS AND MANUFACTURERS Any new or modified gear and equipment that is to be used for frontline lifesaving purposes is to undergo a trial and evaluation process. These trials and evaluations are to ensure the equipment is of the highest industry standard, fulfils operational requirements, and is safe to use. No officer, member, supplier or manufacturer has the authority to change specifications, introduce rescue equipment or modify existing approved rescue equipment without the written approval of the SLSA Lifesaving Standing Committee. Suppliers or manufacturers wishing to have their equipment evaluated by SLSA should contact the SLSA Operations Team or their SLS State/Territory centre directly.
