Dear Parents,

India is a unique nation, whose fabric has been woven by diverse linguistic, cultural

and religious threads, held together into a composite national identity by a rich

history of cultural evolution. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during the

Rashtriya Ekta Divas held on 31st October, 2015, propounded that cultural diversity

is a joy that ought to be celebrated through mutual interaction & reciprocity

between people of different States and UTs so that a common spirit of

understanding resonates throughout the country.

The CBSE circular- Acad33/2020 dated 14-May-2020, that also focuses on art

integrated pedagogies of the paired state/UT as defined under Ek Bharat Shrestha

Bharat programme

We along with our students, also participate in the celebration of spirit of

togetherness, which would help to nourish and cherish the joy of unity in diversity.

Therefore, this year our holiday homework is based on structured engagement of

DELHI-SIKKIM, in the spheres of language, literature, cuisine, festivals, cultural

events, tourism etc.

The much awaited holidays are here. It is the time to relish chilled delicacies of

the season and fill the spirits with new energy and vigor. The need of the hour is

to make the optimum use of the energy and creativity of students. Keeping this in

view the following projects are constructed to enhance the knowledge of the

child about SIKKIM .

INSTRUCTIONS

Follow the given instructions:

Write neatly and present your work well.

The work has to be done in loose A 4 SIZE sheets, properly tagged with your

name, class, section, roll number. Subject name and worksheet / assignment

number should also be mentioned.

Punch sheets or project sheets may also be used where required.

All the holiday homework sheets should be properly documented and

maintained in a folder.

SUBJECT- ENGLISH

Festivals and Events in Sikkim is a world onto its own amidst the beautiful and

majestic Himalayas. A world where two different religions with different cultures

and traditions coexist peacefully with astonishing skyline structures that

emphasizes on its connectivity to the world even though the cloud covered

mountains seem to reflect another story.

The steep terrain of Sikkim comes alive every year with festivities. Every Sikkim

festival is a kaleidoscope of colours that is a celebrated with family, friends and

community. The exhilaration of celebration is deeply tinted with rustic traditions

that go back centuries. People venture out in their finest attire as they join in the

festivities . The elaborate masks and the colourful costumes of the performers

add more colour to the proceedings. This summer venture into Sikkim virtually

and do the following task based on the festivities of Sikkim.

You can refer to the ‘Unit-Celebration’ from My English Reader.

1. Design an attractive poster depicting any one festival of Sikkim on an A4 size

sheet.

2. Write a paragraph on ‘Sikkim-The Himalayan wonderland’ describing the

nature beauty in about 150 words on an A4 size sheet.

Q2. Write the area of Delhi and Sikkim and round off to nearest lakhs, ten

thousands, thousand, hundred, tens and ones place.

Q3. Write the population of Delhi and Sikkim and apply the divisibility rules on

both the populations by 2, 3 ,4, 5, 6, 8, 9,10, 11 and write the divisibility rule also.

Identify the state flower and tree of Sikkim and share facts about it.

Enlist the different species of plants native to the state (mentioning the various adaptation of these plants to the climate of Sikkim)

Recent news regarding these plants wrt their population, steps taken to revive their number by different organizations involved like WWF

Mention the names of few Wildlife sanctuary/ National parks/ Biodiversity Parks of the state with some salient features

Include amazing facts/ trivia of the flora (you can also include riddles, crosswords or any other which may be of interest to you)

You can also include a section of your own experience of visit to any Wildlife sanctuary/ National parks/ Biodiversity Parks.

SOCIAL SCIENCE

As we know Ek Bharat Programme has been promoting India’s unity and Diversity

across the Country. Under these Guidelines let us Compare and Contrast the

features of Delhi and Sikkim like their one important Dance form and Food habit.
