    II. INTRODUCTION

  • -6- G1036 Slow-Speed Grinder

    1. Working Clearances: Consider existing andanticipated needs, size of material to beprocessed through the machine, and spacefor work tables or other machinery whenestablishing a location for your slow-speedgrinder.

The Model G1036 is wired for 110V, single phaseoperation; it cannot be operated on 220V. The 1/4H.P., 1720 R.P.M. motor draws 4.2 amps. This isnot a large load. However, if you operate thegrinder on a circuit that is already close to capac-ity, it could overload that circuit. If an unusual loaddoes not exist and a power failure still occurs, have the circuit inspected by a qualified electri-cian.

This equipment must be grounded. Pleaseensure that the slow-speed grinder is continuous-ly grounded from the motor to the machine frameand then to a known ground. Verify that any exist-ing electrical outlet and circuit you intend to pluginto is actually grounded. If it is not, it will be nec-essary to run a separate 12 A.W.G. coppergrounding wire from the outlet to a known ground.Under no circumstances should the groundingpin from any three-pronged plug be removed.

Extension Cords: If used, extension cords mustbe rated Hard Service (grade S) or better.Conductor size must be 14 A.W.G. for cords up to50 feet in length. Your extension cord must alsocontain a ground wire and plug pin. Always repairor replace extension cords if they become dam-aged.

Never operate this machine without propergrounding. Failure to do so could result inserious personal injury. DO NOT remove thegrinder’s grounding plug. If a grounded cir-cuit is not available, run a 12 A.W.G. copperwire from the machine’s motor and frame toa known ground.

Be sure that your particular electrical con-figuration complies with local and statecodes. The best way to ensure complianceis to check with your local municipality orlicensed electrician. If you are unsure of thequality or condition of the circuit you intendto use, DO NOT attempt to use the grinderuntil the circuit has been serviced.

This machine should be mounted to a standor benchtop with the appropriate fastenersbefore using. Grinding can generate forceswhich might topple the machine if it is notsecurely affixed. Serious personal injurymay occur.

    V. SITE CONSIDERATIONS VI. ELECTRICAL ISSUES

Although the larger 10" wheel is designedspecifically for slow rotation, there is stillthe possibility that blades and tools beingsharpened on either wheel could be dis-lodged from your grasp. Be sure that satis-factory space is allocated between theSlow-Speed Grinder and areas where othersare working. ALWAYS wear safety gogglesand keep the Eye Guard and tool rests inproper position when grinding or sharpen-ing.

    2. Lighting and Outlets: Lighting should bebright enough to eliminate shadow and pre-vent eye strain. Electrical circuits should bededicated or large enough to handle amper-age requirements. Outlets should be locatednear each machine so power or extensioncords are clear of high-traffic areas. Observelocal electrical codes for proper installationof new lighting, outlets, or circuits.
