Trapped! On the Titanic

I thought being a stowaway on the Titanic would be exciting, or

fun. It has, so far, been a nightmare. What could possibly be any

worse?

Its 12 am, April 15, 1912. My best friend and I, Ben, have been

trapped in this floating city for about four days. Its hard to find

food because of that fact that everyones been notified of the

two stowaways have had shot the richest man on the boat. But

it wasnt our fault; it was his cowardice that made Ben do it. But

it feels like years ago for us. Right now seawater is rising to our

knees, and the watertight doors are locked. We have no idea

how to get out. How I wish it was only a few days ago, maybe

things wouldve had been different

3 days earlierWe were wandering the boiler room, looking at the different

pulleys and complex machines that were in the different rooms,

when Ben said out of the blue that he was hungry. I looked at

him with as if he had gone mad.

In the middle of the day, Ben? I said, exasperated. He nodded

as if it wasnt a big deal. I shook my head firmly. Were arent

going anywhere. Well, at least not now. Its broad daylight! Why

dont you go obsess over some of these machine thingies?

Dont you like them? Ben rolled his eyes.

Yeah, but weve seen nothing but gears and screws and the like

over and over again. Im starving. I clucked my tongue in a

motherly fashion.

Children are starving on the streets. Youre just exaggerating.

Ben harrumphed and trumped toward an open entrance. We

looked up at the doorway and saw that it was one of those

watertight doors that closed at the push of the button up at the

Captains bridge.

I wonder whats in here I mused thoughtfully, passing

through the doorway with caution. Suddenly Ben burst past by

me and ran towards all the different wheels and axels.

Look at this expert design! he exclaimed, grasping a giant

steel prism. Its state of the art, this hydraulic system. Itsefficiency isnt so bad too.

I grew tired of looking at simple machines and learning about

speed ratio from my friends babbles, so I decided to explore a

bit more.

11 pm, April 11, 1912

We had sneaked out of the 2nd class dining parlor with an

armful of food. As we sat in the engine room and happily sifted

through the load of loaves and miniature little pies, Ben spoke

up.

You know Carson, being a stowaway isnt so bad.

I leaned against one of the boiler walls. Youre absolutely

right.
