“Verily never will Allah change the condition (LAA YU-GHAIYIRU) of

a people until they change it (BI - AN-FU-SI-HIM) themselves (within

their own souls/selves).”

As children of Adam, we were created with a noble destiny As children of Adam, we were created with a noble destiny

capable of surpassing even the angels. Yet, Allah’s Plan and Justice capable of surpassing even the angels. Yet, Allah’s Plan and Justice

Allah has created us in the best of mould, having that potential to Allah has created us in the best of mould, having that potential to

be the best. Yet Allah has equipped within us a free-will, for it is up be the best. Yet Allah has equipped within us a free-will, for it is up

to man to decide whether to be the best or otherwise. to man to decide whether to be the best or otherwise.


We are not “We are not “compelled compelled ” to be the best, for we have been given ” to be the best, for we have been given

the free-will to make decision and with it, the personal the free-will to make decision and with it, the personal

responsibility. Accompanying every upward movement is also that responsibility. Accompanying every upward movement is also that

Yet, mankind must learnt from the Adamic (Yet, mankind must learnt from the Adamic (FIFITwTwRAHRAH) innocence ) innocence

and inclination towards being shameful, remorseful leading to and inclination towards being shameful, remorseful leading to

repentance – submitting to the Guidance through Allah’s message repentance – submitting to the Guidance through Allah’s message

Much has to be learnt from the narration of the Qur’an regarding Much has to be learnt from the narration of the Qur’an regarding

the story of the fall from grace of Adam (‘the story of the fall from grace of Adam (‘alayhis-salamalayhis-salam) due to the ) due to the

enmity of Iblis (enmity of Iblis (la’-natullaahi ‘alayla’-natullaahi ‘alay) towards him and towards all of ) towards him and towards all of

his descendants. Many may have overlooked or ignored the Adamic his descendants. Many may have overlooked or ignored the Adamic

traits shown in this saga. Traits which we are commanded to traits shown in this saga. Traits which we are commanded to

their enemies amongst Allah’s other creation and to learn of their their enemies amongst Allah’s other creation and to learn of their

plans to divert man away from the path of their Lord. Every Divine plans to divert man away from the path of their Lord. Every Divine

command, even of advising mankind not to approach or come near command, even of advising mankind not to approach or come near

to, contains potential harm to his Soul. Thus the believers are to, contains potential harm to his Soul. Thus the believers are

commanded to enter (submit; surrender) fully / completely to Islam.commanded to enter (submit; surrender) fully / completely to Islam.


““O you who have attained to faith! (O you who have attained to faith! (UD-KHULUD-KHUL) Surrender ) Surrender

(lit. “enter!”) yourselves wholly unto Allah, and follow (lit. “enter!”) yourselves wholly unto Allah, and follow

not (not (LAA - TAT –TA-BI-’ULAA - TAT –TA-BI-’U) Satan's footsteps, for, verily, he ) Satan's footsteps, for, verily, he

“And he (Iblis) swore unto them, "Verily, I am of those who wish

you well indeed!"”

before the angels, and said: "Tell me the names of these if ye are

They said: "Glory to Thee, of knowledge We have none, save what

(Qur’an: Surah al-Baqarah 2: 31-32)

them, Allah said: "Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of

was of those who reject Faith."

the same way as he caused your ancestors to be driven out

of the garden: he deprived them of their garment [TAQWA

-of God-consciousness] in order to make them aware of

their nakedness. Verily, he and his tribe are lying in wait for

you where you cannot perceive them! Verily, We have

placed [all manner of] satanic forces near unto those who

do not [truly] believe;"

wan ba-wan ba-swswee-ron bi- ’u-yuu-bi-naa,ee-ron bi- ’u-yuu-bi-naa,

MuMutwtw--twtwali-’an ‘alaa - ‘au-ro-tinaa, ya-raa-naa huwa wa-ali-’an ‘alaa - ‘au-ro-tinaa, ya-raa-naa huwa wa-

qo-bii-luhu min hai - thu laa-na-raa-hum,qo-bii-luhu min hai - thu laa-na-raa-hum,

“ “O Allah! You have place upon us an enemy who can see our O Allah! You have place upon us an enemy who can see our

privacy and our shortcomings, whereas he and his kind spy upon privacy and our shortcomings, whereas he and his kind spy upon

us from places which we are unable to see them.us from places which we are unable to see them.

O Allah! Disappoint their hopes towards us, just as You have made O Allah! Disappoint their hopes towards us, just as You have made

them disappointed in hoping to get Your Blessings.them disappointed in hoping to get Your Blessings.

Make them despair (in attaining their plans) towards us, just as Make them despair (in attaining their plans) towards us, just as

You made them despair from seeking Your Forgiveness.You made them despair from seeking Your Forgiveness.

Keep them away (distance) from us, just as You made them to be Keep them away (distance) from us, just as You made them to be

far-away (distance) from Your Paradise.far-away (distance) from Your Paradise.

Verily, You (O Allah) is Most Powerful over everything.”Verily, You (O Allah) is Most Powerful over everything.”


“... and [so,] whenever they commit a shameful deed, they are wont

to say, "We found our forefathers doing it," and, “Allah has enjoined

it upon us." Say: "Behold, never does Allah enjoin deeds of

abomination. Would you attribute unto Allah something of which

you have no knowledge?”



“Say: "My Sustainer has [but] enjoined the doing of what is right (QISTw) ;

and [He desires you to] put your whole being into every act of worship, and

to call (WAD-’U-HU – supplicate) unto Him, sincere (MUKH- LI-SWEENA) in

your faith in Him alone (LAHUD-DEEN). As it was He who brought you into

being in the first instance, so also [unto Him] you will return:”



““... some [of you] He will have graced with His guidance, whereas, for some a ... some [of you] He will have graced with His guidance, whereas, for some a

Much can be learnt from the above revelation. That Allah’s justice Much can be learnt from the above revelation. That Allah’s justice

is for all of His creatures. But to ensure that mankind is not deceived, is for all of His creatures. But to ensure that mankind is not deceived,

the guidance also exposes these other factors which seek the the guidance also exposes these other factors which seek the

Yet, Allah assures us that these malevolent force has no control Yet, Allah assures us that these malevolent force has no control

over man unless man allows themselves to be seduced. Although over man unless man allows themselves to be seduced. Although

there may be incitement, yet man must be responsible himself since there may be incitement, yet man must be responsible himself since

they are amply equipped with faculties which are quite capable of they are amply equipped with faculties which are quite capable of

propelling him towards the exalted state. propelling him towards the exalted state.


Although temptations may come from others, yet it is up to

mankind himself to decide. Allah tells us that Satan will absolve Allah tells us that Satan will absolve

themselves from responsibility for man’s own wickedness: themselves from responsibility for man’s own wickedness:

come true! I, too, held out [all manner of ] promises to you come true! I, too, held out [all manner of ] promises to you

Cause this our light to shine for us forever, and forgive us

our sins: for, verily, Thou hast the power to will anything!“

O Allah! There is none who can withhold O Allah! There is none who can withhold

what You send, nor (can anyone) send whatever You withholdwhat You send, nor (can anyone) send whatever You withhold


Neither can they guide whom You leave astrNeither can they guide whom You leave astray

Nor can they lead astray whom You have guided


Neither can they give whatever You deprive, Neither can they give whatever You deprive,

nor can they deprive to whom You givenor can they deprive to whom You give


Neither (can any) draw closer those whom You cast-away,Neither (can any) draw closer those whom You cast-away,

nor (can any) be cast-away those whom You draw closernor (can any) be cast-away those whom You draw closer


O Allah! Bestow upon us from Your blessings, O Allah! Bestow upon us from Your blessings,

and Your mercy, and Your grace and Your and Your mercy, and Your grace and Your

provisions.provisions.


O Allah! I ask You for the eternal delight (favours) O Allah! I ask You for the eternal delight (favours)

that (favour which) never ends nor fades away.that (favour which) never ends nor fades away.


O Allah! I ask You for provisions (favours) O Allah! I ask You for provisions (favours)

on the Day of deprivation (Hereafter), on the Day of deprivation (Hereafter),

and the safety on the Day of fear (Judgement Day).and the safety on the Day of fear (Judgement Day).


O Allah! I seek refuge with You from the evil repercussions O Allah! I seek refuge with You from the evil repercussions

of what You have given us and of what You have given us and

from the evil (consequences) of what You have deprived us from the evil (consequences) of what You have deprived us

of.of.


"Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have "Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have

Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which

You laid upon those before us. You laid upon those before us.

Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no

ability to bear. ability to bear.

And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us.

O Allah! Allow us to die as Muslims, live as Muslims O Allah! Allow us to die as Muslims, live as Muslims

and join us with the ranks of the righteous ones, and join us with the ranks of the righteous ones,

without tasting humiliation or turmoil.without tasting humiliation or turmoil.
