Where we are

We are located in the Mugello area, in the northern part of the Florence countryside .

The association “Progetto accoglienza” has been working in Borgo San Lorenzo,Florence, since 1992. It offers solutions to migratory problems by following up on immigrants families.

The association receives and cares for refugee immigrants families through the SPRAR project (Protection system for asylum seekers) and other projects such as North Africa Emergency.

The village carries out reception services for refugee families with children. It focuses on integration, education and training, and helps with finding a job and the best possible way towards social inclusion.

We offer (alongside the standard SPRAR services) reception

services, following-up on health care and burocracy,administration,social welfare, occupation and work, public education, adult literacy and nationality acquisition. We also provide educational and formative workshops for children and adults and provide psycological support throught a collaboration with Cerisc, association of ethnopsychiatry.

For the commission’s interview every family history must be rebuilt, so as to help out guests to build a new bridge with the past. Very often places of origin, geopolitical affiliation and personal histories form part of the difficult obstacles to this process.

An operator writes helps the migrant to write his/her personal memory, a history often made of violence, persecution and mourn.

The help of a skilled interpreter is integrated by research on the geopolitical and historical context of origin, using recognized sources like the United Nations and Amnesty

database.

To prepare them to the commision’s interview, we explain how it could be and offer exemplificatory performances of the session.



A special concern

We would like to help our guests to move towards the future, and let their children live childhood in a secure context. Everybody is involved in an active and participative way. We give them the possibility to build a comfortable place where everyone is on the same level and where they can have an active role. Helping other people in the group can be the means to increase one’s own self-esteem.



The second phase of reception: choosing the future path

Guests and personnel work together to look for the best destination. Sometimes a new place doesn’t coincide with the idea of what a new life would be. Sometimes a new place doesn’t coincide with the idea of what a new life should be. There are not always the conditions and opportunities to obtain what one has dreamed of.

We examinate the possibility to settling people in the same area as that of the center, but we respect all other choices and solutions such as that to continue migration towards others countries.

We carry out activities such as awareness-raising, training and cooperation aimed at

creating respect, integration and more conscious and civil ways of living together.

Education to PeaceEducation to PeaceThis center was born before the birth of Villaggio La Brocchi. It was born during the 90’s in Mugello area in the daily practice of reception.

The center contains many books about teaching italian to foreign people, intercultural and ethnopsychiatry studie, law studies about immigration and around volontary work and organitazions.

In this building differents educational activities are developed, such as cultural events and others services offered by the Center of Intercultural Documentation.

The “Villaggio La Brocchi” was born thanks to the encounter of different realities:

The institute works in Florence since the sixth century to support children and families.

The institute was recognized as a national and european point of reference for the promotion of children’s rights.
