I am Tri-‐cultural. Having a Puerto Rican grandmother, a Mexican father, and a New Yorker-‐Mexican mother, I have lived and was raised in a home that provided me three cultures. I am bilingual and appreciate the cultural and sociological background from Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the U.S.

I do not look “Mexican” as some people have responded when I tell them that I was born in Mexico, and so I ask what do “Mexicans” look like? Are they supposed to look a certain way? In the educa9on and career path seJngs, Osa states that in schools throughout the United States, predominantly black and white, each race forms assump9ons, expecta9ons and beliefs about other races and individuals and those that belong to the majority race, have more opportuni9es than minori9es. Next 9me you meet persons of different races/culture, why don’t you take the 9me to inquire about their background and ask them about their country, their food, and culture. I’m sure they will appreciate your interest in them, and as Matuzits suggests,“. . . increased knowledge of minority groups increases liking of such groups.” (2012) Matusitz, J. (2012).
