1. Abstract

Government Engineering College, Sreekrishnapuram was established in 1999 at

Sreekrishnapuram Village of Palakkad. The serene atmosphere is conducive for

academic work and the institution has made its presence felt in the professional

landscape of the state within a short span of time. Endowed with brilliant

students and dedicated faculty, it is on the path of development. The college

presently has Four undergraduate courses of study, namely Computer Science

& Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Information

technology and Mechanical Engineering and a postgraduate course in

Computer Linguistics, Which are approved by AICTE. All the key systems

required for a healthy institution, such as advisory system, the career Guidance

and Placement unit, student chapters of professional bodies like the IEEE and

ISTE, an active parent Teacher Association, Students Co-operative Society,

Alumni Association, etc., are already in place, This document summarizes the

He is an IEEE member, FDC,IEEE Educational Activities Board and SIGHT Chair, and an IEEE Kerala YoungProfessional and we were most privileged to be in his class which he managedbetween his busy schedule.

As an engineering student it is necessary to be aware of the challenges we mayface while dealing with a job and this session indeed helped in creating thatawareness. Our honorable guest with his motivational and inspiring classliterally brought an energetic environment among all of us.

His class began with ideas about the organizations like IEEE and their roles inchoosing a career. He gave us more ideas about doing internships and how tochoose our field of interest as core subject. The class was made moreinteresting with slides that showcased different levels of difficulties that we mayoften face when we join a company, and how organizations like IEEE help inovercoming it smoothly. He also gave several tips that we should follow, so as toget a good job. Some of them include keeping good language, creating networksetc. He concluded the class with a note that made each of us proud of being anengineering student. Then Shyam, IEEE SB Chairman addressed theparticipants and shared the experiences he has had, so far, by being an IEEEmember. The program was concluded by the vote of thanks by Balu S, anIEEE member of the college.

As part of industrial collaboration, one year MoU (agreement) was signed

with ICT Academy of Kerala(Information and Communication Technology of

Kerala) on 18 September 2015 to collaborate with the academy. The ICT

Academy of Kerala is a social Enterprise created in a Public Private

Partnership model(PPP) for imparting ICT skills to the youths of Kerala and

improve their employability opportunities in the Industry. The company is

supported by Govt. of India, partnered by Govt. of Kerala and the ICT

industry. It facilitated free Oracle Academy membership to the college.

Organized program in Infopark, providing opportunity for meritorious

students to interact with Industry leaders. Conducted student Interaction

Program in association with NASSCOM at UL Cyber Park Kozhikode. Most

importantly it provided placement assistance for final year students by

arranging campus interview with companies like Infosys, UST Global ,SAP

Labs , SLK Software, IBS, Suntech, etc. As a result 22 students got placed in

Infosys and 3 students received placement in SAP Labs.

Moreover the final year students of the college had done projects in

various industries. Two ME B.Tech final year projects were carried out at

BPCL Kochi Refinery and HMT Kalamassery. One ECE final year project was

completed with the support of Sastra Robotics Kochi (newly start up firm in

Conclusion

At the end of financial year 2015-16, we have reasons to be satisfied on many

counts: First the institution is on a sound footing on its journey towards

excellence in terms of human and infrastructural resources. Secondly, it has

started to get noticed in the professional arena, as exemplified by the improved

interaction with institutions of repute, number of extension lectures by the

faculty, publications by the staff and students, and sponsored research

projects. Thirdly, we were able to maintain a peaceful atmosphere conducive for

meaningful academic work. When new programs begin in the near future, there

are further chances to improve our position in the academic field. We will strive

hard to realize our vision of excellence through the wings of science and

technology, in the service of humanity.
