Team Purpose Statement• The SkyView Volleyball program is here to prepare tomorrow’s

leaders by developing athletic teams which pursue excellence by strengthening the athletes character, instilling great work habits, and teaching, stressing, and monitoring the importance of Academics.

• The SkyView Volleyball program exists to provide girls with an outlet outside of school where they can excel. To instill great work habits through academic’s, and developing volleyball skill and teaching the game of volleyball.

Player Expectations• Do not get involved with or do anything that would ever

reflect negatively on your school, your family, or compromise the integrity of the athletes or coaches of our team. This includes non-school hours. Everything you do reflects our team, school and community. Any violation of this policy can result in suspension or expulsion from the team.

• No talking during practice or while a coach is talking

• Be respectful and set an example for the younger girls watching

General Rules• All players, as requested, will participate in all team activities,

including clinics, camps, socials, tournaments, and special promotions. You are ambassadors of our team and our sport and must actively promote our presence on the campus and community.

• Players will not wear ANY club volleyball attire to SVA volleyball events including practices, games, tournaments, camps etc. while in season.

• All players will wear the same shirt or warm up during game warm ups. Players dictate what they will wear unless instructed otherwise by the coach.

• All players must pursue all physical conditioning activities as specified.

General Rules• If there is a disagreement between two or more players, they

must immediately attempt to work it out by themselves – if this is not possible they must meet with the coaches to resolve the problem.

• If an athlete is continuously causing drama she will be asked to be dismissed from the team

• All players must follow all rules established by the various venues and departments that we come in contact with.

• No SVA volleyball coach will be allowed to give any SVA volleyball player private lessons. If you wish to take private lessons, you must find a coach outside of the SVA volleyball staff.

Communication• No contact for 24 hours after a match• Girls will be given the coaches number for emergency only• No athlete or parents should be calling or texting the coaches

at any time—even if you previously had their number• Email addresses can be found on the website

• Please email your coach with your name and daughters name in the email so we can compile a list for google as well

• This is a new policy for the athletic department

Season Commitment• Volleyball players are expected to attend all required activities,

such as practices, games, team-building activities, etc.

• Note: Teacher meetings or test taking should occur outside of the practice schedule or during advisory

• Volleyball players should not schedule appointments or other activities during practice. Please avoid making vacation or travel plans during seasonal activities, including competition season.

Missing Practices• If a practice must be missed, the player needs to communicate with

the coach. • A missed practice with no communication can result in suspension or

expulsion from the team.

• 1st-offense 2 min whistle drill• 2nd -offense 2 game suspension• 3rd- offense expulsion from team

• If you are late to practice the team will have 1 min of whistle for every minute your late

• If an athlete misses practice the day before a game they will not be able to start in the game the next day and playing time will be up to the coaches discretion

Practice Schedules • Practice schedules are subject to change throughout the season.

We have to coordinate a lot of activities so each team has their own court for practice. Coaches will communicate all possible changes in advance.

• JV Team 4:00-6:00 pm everyday(No practice over holidays or breaks, unless you float with varsity)

• Varsity 4:00-6:00pm every day except certain dates (Labor Day & Fall break practice)

• Sat, August 22nd-9-11am • Mon, Sept 7th -9-11am• Sat, Sept 19th -9-11am• Mon, Oct 12th -9-11am

Eligibility• The first time a student fails to meet the minimum eligibility

GPA in a given grading period, he or she will be not be able to compete in the next week of games for that eligibility period. Instead of being at practice they will be required to meet with every teacher and do homework during practice.

• The second time they will be suspended for two weeks.

• Third time will be three weeks.

• If student is ineligible 4 times they will be dismissed from the team.

Competition & Game Expectations

• Initial placement on a certain level (Varsity, Junior Varsity, does not guarantee your spot for the entire season.• Readiness, academics, character and attitude will

determine participation. Volleyball players are expected to attend all practices and games. • If you are late to a game or tournament you will not start

that match (the second match is up to the coaches discretion depending on how the team does)• If you forget to bring your jersey to a game or

tournament you will not start that match (the second match is up to the coaches discretion depending on how the team does)

Supporting the Program• Each player is required to help with home games

• We understand the players have academic commitments so the players have the freedom to choose the games they will help with for the other levels.

• This way the players can plan according to their academics and attend games on nights where the homework demands are less.

Injuries• Until we hire an athletic trainer coaches will help with tape

jobs and injuries

Lettering• All Varsity Volleyball players who finish the season in good

standing will receive their varsity letter.

• The definition of a varsity player is someone who dresses for the varsity contests and makes a valuable contribution to the Varsity team during the season.

• Letters will be awarded at the program banquet.

Playing Time• Playing time is an awarded privilege, not a right. Athletes are

played because:

1. They exhibit high character on the court, in the classroom and in the community.

2. They get the job done better than someone else. 3. They add the most value to the team. 4. They understand their role on the team. 5. Their number one goal is to make the team better. 6. They do the things that are required plus more. 7. They make plays in practices and games.

Athletic Fee• The Volleyball athletic fee is $150

• Girls will also have to purchase team gear on the flash store

Team Parent• A Team Parent Partner will be appointed to each team. • The Team parent will communicate team needs and events to

all families. • Selection will be determined by those willing to volunteer and

the coaching staff. • Team parents will communicate at each level to ensure the

needs of the program are met.• Two team parents per team would be ideal• Help plan meals for the team and coaches

Practice Schedule• Players will have a two hour practice ----depending on the

week and gym space -------practices will change, we will have a schedule

• JV team practice will be from 4:00-6:00• Varsity team practice will be from 4:00-6:00• Varsity will occasionally have Saturday morning practices from

9:00-11:00 am (coaches will notify the players in advance)• Varsity will practice over some holidays (Includes if you float

varsity)

Banquet• The Volleyball Banquet will be for all the teams in our

program.

• Time, Date, & Venue are TBD

Parental Partnership• The team always comes first. The star of the team is the team.

• Parent's influence or position makes no difference in any decision within the volleyball program. Parents should seek to serve the program without expectations for favor for their daughter’s playing time.

• A team member’s position will be determined by what is best for the team.

• Publicity is used to promote our team, school and community.

Parental Partnership cont.• If there are any problems that arise, we want to have proper

communication channels within the Volleyball Program. The following flowchart should be the standard for resolution of issues: • Player to captain or team• Player to Head Coach • Parent and Player to Head Coach (with Team Coach) • Parent and Player to Head Coach and AD (Vicky Schleining)

• Of course, parents are always welcome to talk to the Head Coach about non-volleyball items: grades, boyfriends, background, etc.

• Schedule meetings with the coaching staff in advance, in accordance with the chain of command previously represented.

• Remember our philosophy when evaluating a situation: The team comes first!

• The door is always open and so is our mind.• We attempt to keep short accounts with your daughters when mistakes

are made. We ask the same of you. Please be open-minded as we work together to resolve situations which may arise.

• Meetings should take place a minimum of 24 hours after an incident occurs.

• Place responsibility on your daughter whenever possible, help them grow and be a self advocate. Before we know it, these young women will be out on their own, so let’s partner together to prepare them.

Parent Partnership Cont.• Please do not approach coaches on or during game days about

their daughters playing time

• Again it is about the team, and what’s best for the team

• Please trust that we have your girls best interest at heart

• We are more concerned about them growing in their character than in volleyball

Parental Partnership cont.• We will need your help this season in the following areas:

1. Video Footage & Photography2. Game Day Food3. Game Day Admissions/concessions4. Team Dinners5. End of Season Banquet

Video Footage & Photography• We will put together an end of the season video with pictures

and video clips of the girls playing and even other photos of them from the retreat, team-bonding activities etc.

• If you are interested in helping out with this please contact the team parent.

Game Day Food• The team parent will come up with a plan as to how we will provide

food for the players on game nights and will make sign up sheet for parents to sign up for

• Sign up to bring food for 2 games-can share with parents

• Food can be anything: crockpot, chipotle, salads, chic fila

• Bring enough to feed your team of girls and coach for home and away games

• The varsity team will eat before their game @4:30 and JV will eat after their games before the Varsity Game starts.

Game Day Admissions • Parents will be assigned to work at the door to sell tickets to

the games. • Everyone needs to do at least one game• We will put together a list of dates of home games where we

need workers

Team Dinners• Usually before some of our games we will have a team dinner

(just for their teammates – about 12 girls)

• We need parents to volunteer to open their homes to have the team over for a dinner

• If you would like to do this please contact the team parent

End of the Season Banquet• At the end of the season we will host our banquet for the

volleyball program. We will need volunteer parents to help organize this event such as location, date, food menu, decorations etc.

• If you are interested in helping out in this area please contact the team parent.

• November 15th @ 5pm

Big Sister

• Each player in the program will be partnered up with another player (‘sister’) for the entire season forming an alliance. The duty of each sister is to serve, encourage, and love each other. The sisters will spend time getting to know each other throughout the season

• We will do gifts, notes here and there throughout the season

• Big sisters will be a role model and someone the younger girls can go to

Program Retreat• Leave Friday August 29th @ 2:30-Return Saturday August 29th

@ 1:00pm• We need tents that fit 4-6 people comfortably• We need camping chairs• Hiking, sleeping in tent, campfire, smores, team bonding• Senior mom’s help with dinner Friday night• You will need to pick up the girls on August 29th in Larkspur by

12:00pm • 20$ fee for retreat• Money due on Monday August 24th
